In honor of Kaua'i, this mele ho'oipoipo celebrates Kamaile, a sacred mountain in the northern district of Halele'a. Romance is depicted between the mountain and her lover, a bird entrusted to protect the land that sustains him. The wind, carrying both the mountain's voice and her companion's wings, illustrates how pilina is a lei woven by unseen hands, yet it endures as a responsibility shared between partners.
