The Russian state propaganda resource "Soloviev Live" unexpectedly raised the issue of the Russian economy no longer being able to sustain the war. Z-host Sergey Mardan discussed how economic pessimism among Russians has reached its highest level in 20 years. He asked an invited expert what this was due to. He received a very frank answer: the war. "Businesses and entrepreneurs are feeling unwell. And the longer it goes on, the more unwell they feel. And now this unimportance has reached serious proportions. And it can't help but impact the population. In some places, workweeks are being shortened, and this primarily means actual salary cuts, either to base wages or even less. That is, no overtime, no bonuses, no incentives. Nothing... In some places, people have even gone on half-paid or even unpaid leave. People don't understand how this will all end and when. Everyone understands the reasons... Now all this is happening against the backdrop of the "SVO." People understand perfectly well that the situation is self-created... People see the cause-and-effect relationships and don't understand when it will end and how, which is the most important thing," said the "Soloviev Live" guest. He noted that previously, the war hadn't particularly affected most Russians; they lived normal, peaceful lives. However, the situation has now changed dramatically. And therefore, dangerous sentiments are emerging among the population. "Previously, the war was separate from life in the country. They didn't really intersect... The country lived in a more or less peaceful regime. And now, for the first time, we're seeing this direct connection... People perceive it as a serious inconvenience that the "SVO" has reached us. And this, of course, triggers a completely understandable, specific psychological reaction. Because the same question arises: how long will this continue? We have enough reserves, which we've scraped together over the years, until September, apparently. And then what?" the expert asked. After this, Mardan abruptly ended this conversation. By the end of the year, Russia will lose the ability to finance the war against Ukraine, according to Russian Z-blogger and "angry patriot" Maxim Kalashnikov.
He noted that abandoning the seizure of Donbas and freezing the war along the current front line would be a "massive political blow" to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. However, there is likely no other option, as continuing the war threatens Russia's collapse. "A time of difficult decisions, a time of hard choices, is approaching. Because our budget deficit is growing, and there's nothing to plug it with... By the end of the year, we may face the impossibility of funding the war and the security forces. Time is running out. And Zelenskyy has launched his counter-escalation plan at the perfect time. He's found the right moment. The budget situation is forcing us to make some very unpleasant, very difficult decisions," Kalashnikov stated. He clarified that the options are either confiscating bank deposits, drastically cutting spending, or turning on the printing press and devaluing the ruble, which would lead to "stormy inflation" and a collapse of the entire economy. All three options are extremely dangerous for the regime and the Russian Federation itself. "The choice is between bad and very bad... We're at a very dangerous point... And very soon we'll have to make a choice: agree to Trump, the EU, and Zelenskyy's terms, stopping short of the LBS, freezing the situation, or continue the war and run into a severe economic, if not systemic, crisis. History has moved toward a denouement, toward finishing off, forcing our elite to accept far worse terms for ending the war," Kalashnikov stated.
