Video Summary
AI GeneratedMaddie reminisces about discontinued drugstore makeup from CoverGirl and Revlon, focusing on the nostalgia of the 90s and 2000s. She highlights specific lip, eye, and face products she wishes were brought back, praising the simplicity of past beauty marketing and the experimental nature of certain sub-lines compared to today's drugstore offerings.
Hello, everybody.
Welcome back to my YouTube channel.
I'm Maddie.
And in today's video, we are talking
about makeup, which we desperately,
desperately need back.
This is part five.
And let's get into it.
OK, now, as I just mentioned,
this is part five.
So there are one, two, three, four,
four other previous videos
for you to check out.
They don't all correlate.
So you can watch this one
and then go watch the other ones.
Like we talk about different brands
in every single one of the videos.
So it's totally fine
if you check those other ones out later.
But if you haven't seen previous
videos from this series,
I essentially talk about
different makeup brands
and then different discontinued products,
products that we would love to see back
iconic products.
And then I give you the one product
that I would need back from that brand
so I can only pick one.
It's been really, really hard.
I've talked about Urban Decay,
Too Faced, Benefit, so many brands
and so many iconic products from brands,
which I would want back.
There are some brands where I'm like,
you know what?
I just be fine with just this one.
You know, like and that is low key
how I feel about the first brand,
which we were talking about today.
And that is Covergirl.
No tea, no shade to Covergirl.
I just don't even remember
the last time I used Covergirl.
I think the last time was
one of the Lash Blast mascaras.
I want to say the green one,
which was like the curling one.
So many people suggested that to me,
which is good.
But I like it as like a second mascara
to help like de-clump my curl.
Like I find there's so many teeth
on the comb that it's nice to like
use that to get all the clumps away
from previous mascaras.
But other than that,
like I don't remember the last time
I used a blush or a lip product
or a foundation or anything.
Don't get me wrong.
I think there are some iconic
discontinued Covergirl products
and we will get into that.
But I was actually really surprised
how many I looked up and was like,
surely they can't make this anymore.
And they do like so many products,
so many foundations,
even like the cream compact foundation,
which I did include in today's video
because I was like,
I just have to talk about it.
The Covergirl Aqua Smooth
compact foundation,
they still make that,
which is wild to me.
So I need to like go in store
and actually see what Covergirl is like.
Let me know down below
if you'd like videos of me
actually like going in store
to like check out makeup.
I just always kind of get weird
about like what stores can I film in.
But like, honestly, at this point,
I'm like, it's 2026.
Like I'm going to film in your store.
I'm so sorry.
Shoppers Drug Mart, you know,
we could do like a me going down to Ulta.
Can you film at Ulta in the States?
I don't know.
But we could go down to the States
and I could film in Ulta.
Like, that'd be really fun.
But let me know
if you'd be interested in that.
Anyways, I'm getting sidetracked.
That's why genuinely
doing research for Covergirl.
I was like, oh, yeah,
there's going to be so many
iconic discontinued products,
foundations that I used to love,
powders that I used to love
that surely they don't make anymore.
No, they do.
I was shocked.
And Covergirl, like I said,
it's just not a brand
I've used in a really, really long time.
Even when I did use their brand,
I feel like my opinion,
it was good, like starter makeup.
You know what I mean?
But there was never
like a Covergirl product
that I was like, oh, my gosh,
I have to go back to this.
Whereas like the more I dabbled
in like Sephora products
or higher end products,
there was still a lot of like L'Oreal
or Maybelline or Wet n Wild products.
And I was like, God, I miss that product.
Covergirl is just not one of those brands.
You might be like, girl,
why are you talking about it?
Because it's Covergirl, right?
There might not be as many
as there are for other brands,
but there's still products nonetheless.
So let's get into it.
Firstly, starting out
with the lip perfection lipstick.
This was so good.
And I was so shocked
that they don't make this anymore
because I'm like out of all the products
that you still make,
this is not one of them.
I'm going to say that a lot
about Covergirl, just a fair warning,
but obviously so affordable.
But the packaging of these was so luxury.
Like, just look at it.
It's so beautiful.
I remember it being like
decently like heavy
and having some like weight to it.
Like it definitely didn't feel drugstore.
It was really, really lovely.
I really, really like the formula of it.
I will say the one thing
about Covergirl lip products
that I remember
is the smell always being
like kind of funky.
Like it wasn't, I don't even know.
It was like powdery,
like an old powdery smell
that you would get in makeup
or fragrances or skincare,
like old grandma brands.
Like, I don't know how else to put it,
but you know what I'm talking about.
Like that old powdery smell
in makeup products.
That's what I think of
when I think of Covergirl
and specifically the lip products.
I think because it's just like
with lip products,
when there is such a distinct smell,
it's so obvious
because it's obviously right under your nose.
But I just, yeah,
that was the one thing
about Covergirl lip products.
It's just the smells.
I don't know.
Oh my gosh.
Then you had things like
the Covergirl True Shine Lipstick.
I like distinctly remember this
in my mom's makeup drawer.
These were just like so moisturizing
and beautiful and easy
to like throw on and go.
Okay, this next one
is kind of just like for brands as a whole,
but the Covergirl Flamed Out Eyeshadow.
Number one, such fun and amazing colors,
especially for the drugstore.
I feel like the drugstore
is always kind of lacked
in the eyeshadow department.
But my point is,
why is it so hard
to like get really good
single eyeshadows anymore?
Like, I feel like something
I always say on my channel
is I do love a palette.
I prefer a palette
to a bunch of single shadows.
That's just how it is.
But it's really nice,
especially for the drugstore
to be like, okay,
I want this like one single
like blue shadow
or I'm doing this like green look
or something like that.
So I'm gonna like go out
to the drugstore to get that
and have that option
rather than having to go high end,
especially for like a really niche color,
something that I don't reach for a lot.
It's nice to have like a drugstore option
and a single shadow
so you don't have to buy
a whole fricking palette, obviously.
When did the drugstore
decide to leave single shadows?
I don't totally, totally get that.
OK, next, another lip product.
Oh, my gosh.
You have the Nature Luxe Lip Gloss.
This was like a super sheer
like tinted lip balm situation.
And this was at the time,
like I want to say
this was late 2000s.
This is when everyone
was getting into like
the natural side
and everything had to have this
like Aveeno, like the Aveeno skincare.
That is exactly what I picture.
Everything having this like natural,
like I'm just going to keep
describing Aveeno type marketing.
But anyways, it was actually
a really nice lip product.
I remember really, really loving it.
And I remember liking that whole line.
But again, the smell, like
I don't know why.
I hope somebody like relates
to this in the comments,
the smell of the CoverGirl products.
It's so niche and it's so specific.
OK, I feel like this to me, in my mind,
is the most popular
like discontinued product.
It is the Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation.
And this was like an oil free foundation.
I want to say it launched like 20,
somewhere in 2010,
like somewhere around that time.
And it was actually a really,
really good foundation.
The shade range was shocking.
But I mean, the shade range
in general is shocking.
And even like doing the research
for this video,
looking at the shade range
of the current foundations,
I was like, oh, CoverGirl!
Put the base in your.
No, like this is not
this is not working.
But that's just me.
But this was such a sad one.
Like, I just don't really
I don't get it.
I like it again.
Sorry, I feel like I'm
just slandering CoverGirl.
And like here I am
trying to talk about the products
that they need back.
I just again,
I'm probably going to say it
another three times.
I was so confused
doing the research for this video,
thinking like you discontinued this,
but this is what you still have.
Like I was shocked at the products
that they still have.
And that brings us into our next one,
the CoverGirl and Olay
Simply Ageless Concealer.
They still do have the foundation
and they have built off
of the Simply Ageless like line.
But this was huge.
Like I feel like this was the biggest
CoverGirl line that I remember.
I just feel like ad wise
and marketing wise,
this is really what they like hammered
home so many commercials
and like Ellen DeGeneres
was the face of it.
And it was just huge,
like not in the sense of like people.
I actually knew who used it,
like people who had the demand for it.
It was the way that they pushed this line.
The CoverGirl Olay time was crazy.
But what really, really shocked me
is the fact that they still
do have the foundation, like I said.
But what they don't have is the concealer.
And I remember actually really,
really liking the concealer.
I didn't really dabble
in the foundation much at all.
But the concealer,
because I have such like purple under eyes,
it's like a hereditary thing.
They're just there.
I got into the concealer
at like quite a young age.
Like I was like, OK, well,
this has got to be like good
for my purple under eyes, I guess.
And it was essentially
like supposed to be like a brightening
color correcting,
like moisturizing concealer.
And I was like, OK,
like I'm going to give it a go.
And it was actually nice.
It definitely didn't have a lot of coverage,
but like a really nice
everyday moisturizing concealer.
And I feel like especially for the fact
that CoverGirl and Olay
was geared more towards
an older demographic,
that this product made so much sense.
And I feel like concealer is like
what people in that demographic would want.
And like you still have the foundation,
but you don't have the concealer.
It's just so, so confusing to me.
They all said this product,
which I didn't even know existed.
It was the CoverGirl and Olay,
the Deep Puffer Eye Concealer,
and it has a metal tip
applicator.
And like, again, another thing
where it's just like
if you're still going to have the foundation
and still like build off
the Simply Ageless line,
why wouldn't you have this?
Like, it's just so, so weird.
Oh, my God, I'm so sorry.
Jumping back to the eyeshadow gate.
They had this like whipped eyeshadow.
This popped up on Pinterest.
I have no idea what this is,
but obviously it's a CoverGirl
whipped eyeshadow.
And this to me is like looking more 90s.
And I was so young in the 90s
that I remember some stuff.
I don't remember everything, obviously.
So when this popped up,
I was like a whipped eyeshadow
like sign me up.
And also the packaging
of this CoverGirl product
is so insane to me.
Please let me know in the comments
if you remember this.
Oh, my gosh.
Speaking of nostalgic products, though,
the Wet Slicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss.
These ones were like Victoria's Secret,
like Beauty Rush lip gloss
kind of product.
Like this was at the time
like Lancome Juicy Tubes.
All of these lip glosses
and lip products were like the lip product.
Also in the Wet Slicks lip balm era
was the face powder,
the CoverGirl clean face powder,
which they do still make,
but not in the same packaging.
And to me, like this compact,
the like brown,
and it had like a really nice
like clicky opener type thing.
Like the new powders
are just not the same.
And also back in the day,
the CoverGirl clean powders
used to come with a powder puff
and the powder puff
was also really, really nice.
And this to me was just like so iconic.
And I would love is the same to me
for like the Clinique green.
To me, it's like the CoverGirl brown
and the Clinique green are eras
that both of those brands
need to go back to.
Like, I would just love
the CoverGirl brown powder
compact to come back.
And they play more off
the like nostalgic,
like navy blue packaging as well.
Like I think that would be really nice.
They do kind of,
but it's just not the same anymore.
It's just in my opinion.
Oh, my gosh.
This one is a niche pick,
but the Blast lipstick lipsticks,
this popped up on Pinterest.
And yeah, I remember so vividly
that Sofia Vergara
was the face of this product
and she was like
the CoverGirl at the moment.
So she was in so many ads.
But I remember seeing this on TV
and I did end up
having a couple of them.
But essentially it was
like a two sided lipstick.
So you could like customize
how you wanted your lip product to be.
Obviously, both shades
on both sides went together.
And one side, I believe,
was a shimmery side.
And then the other side was not,
if I remember correctly.
So it's like you could add
the shimmer on top
or you could like outline
with the normal shade
without the glitter
and then have the glitter
on the inside.
It was such an odd time.
And then another really odd time
and another product,
which I bought because of the TV ads.
So it's like as much as
I'm slandering the TV ads.
Well, I'm not slandering them.
I'm just saying like
CoverGirl has so many ads.
The ads also were
because I bought so many
from the TV ads that I saw.
But this was the smoky eye situation.
What was it called again?
The smoky shadow blast.
I remember buying a few of these.
Also, this picture of Drew Barrymore
is chef's kiss.
She looks so good.
The hair color.
I might have to save that.
Maybe that's what I should go for.
I need to figure out
what I'm going to do with my hair.
I'm getting it done
at the end of July.
And this is always
what like deters me
from getting my hair done
is because I never know what to do.
Do I keep going blonde?
Do I keep going light
or do I like try and embrace
my natural color up top?
I don't know.
And then I do one and I regret it.
And then I do the other thing
and I regret it, too.
I don't know.
Anyways, back to these
smoky blast situation,
smoky shadow blasts
is essentially supposed to be like
a quick and easy way
to create an eyeshadow look.
And so there was like step
one on one side
and then step two on the other.
And this was like another era of just
same thing with the lipsticks
lipstick situation with Sofia Vergara.
Like the makeup world
was all about like steps.
And we wanted to like give you
the exact steps that you needed
and make things as simple as possible.
And that was really and truly an era
where I felt like I was seen.
Like I was like, wow, they know me.
They know that I need this.
I need someone to hold my hand
and carry me throughout
creating a smoky eye like low key.
I know a lot of people don't care,
but I really wish we could go back to it.
I talk a lot.
Anytime I can bring this up, I do.
It's the Too Faced
Natural Eyes Palette Boudoir
or the Smoky Eyes Palette.
Remember when they used to come
with the tutorial pamphlets in them?
Like they came with little cards
and be like the day look
or the night look or like create
like an edgier look or something.
I loved those.
I really, really, really,
really, really did love those.
OK, also, sorry,
before we get into the product
that I would want back from CoverGirl,
the CoverGirl nail polishes
and really just like the ads,
the like magazine flat lay ads
that were a thing in the 90s.
That is an era which
I want to go back to,
please, for the love of God.
Look at it.
Look at how beautiful it is.
Either way, getting into the product
and really like line slash collection,
which I would want back from CoverGirl.
This is going to be so nice.
You guys are going to be like,
oh, what are you talking about?
I would love for the CoverGirl
exact eye lights, mascara
and eyeshadow situation to come back.
I believe there is also an eyeliner,
but this was essentially
like a whole line
of a mascara and eyeshadow.
And yeah, like I said,
I believe an eyeliner,
essentially everything
to create an eye look
based off of your eye color.
So there was something
for hazel eyes, blue eyes,
green eyes, brown eyes.
And I don't know why.
Like, again, like I just stated,
I am that person who was like,
give me steps one through 12
of exactly what I need to do
and give me the exact products.
And then we can just like
have fun doing my makeup
and just live our goddamn lives
because I am that person.
It makes sense why I like this so much.
And then I think it was also
one of those things where I was like,
OK, I have blue eyes,
so I'm going to like buy the things
that I would need for blue eyes.
And they were products
that I wouldn't normally try,
like the blue eyeshadow or something.
Or it was like an exact look
that you could do for blue eyes.
And it's not something
I would have reached for,
especially at that time.
I think this came out
and I was like 13, 14,
somewhere in there.
And I don't know,
it just made those colors
a lot more approachable.
And it was just like the way
the brands are able to like
hear something directly to you,
like you feel like
you're like being targeted.
And it's so niche.
I know so many people
are going to be like,
that's it, like that's
the COVERGIRL product you want back.
It is.
Like I said, there's not a ton
of COVERGIRL products
that I'm like, oh, yeah,
we need that back.
Or that was the best
or this was the best
or this was a cult classic.
Like I really COVERGIRL to me
was really amazing,
really great starter makeup.
And then you graduate
onto everything else.
And that's just that's just
how I feel about COVERGIRL.
Let me know if I should try
anything currently from COVERGIRL.
I want to do more like
full face of blank videos.
So I'd be more than happy
to do a full face of COVERGIRL.
If you guys are interested,
just let me know in the comments.
OK, but either way,
getting into our next brand,
another drugstore brand,
and that is Revlon.
Now, Revlon is kind of
in the same boat to COVERGIRL.
I'll be completely honest.
Like there are a lot
of Revlon products
that I've liked through the years.
And you will see the ones
that I'm going to talk about.
But I feel like I always went
to other drugstore brands
personally, NYC, L'Oreal,
Maybelline, Wet n Wild.
Like those were my brands growing up.
Revlon was just not
one of those brands
really recommended.
I didn't gravitate.
Like there were products
here and there.
It just wasn't that brand
where I was like, OK,
I want to try a new foundation.
I'm going to go to L'Oreal
or I'm going to go to whatever,
you know, and that's just
that's just the honest truth.
But it goes without saying
that there are still some products,
which I would love, love, love,
love, love, love to see back.
Now, starting off first,
this is another one.
Same thing to COVERGIRL.
Can we go back to the like
90s magazine ad,
like flat lay of like
the color stories?
Like everything was based
off of a color story.
It was like every season
had a different color story.
And I feel like this is especially
what like luxury brands
trying to achieve nowadays.
And it just doesn't quite hit.
And I'm telling you,
if one of them went back
to like a 90s flat lay
of like a color story and like,
look at how nicely it's laid out.
Like I just feel like
that would do so much better.
Their nail polishes are iconic.
I haven't used a Revlon nail
polish in so long,
but I should probably get on that.
I'm going to go to the drugstore
and get one ASAP.
But one of the products
which immediately caught my eye
when I was doing
the research for this video
was this Revlon wet lipstick.
And it is the mouthwatering
Moondrops formula
that makes dry lips
a thing of the past.
And this ad is just like
giving me life.
But even like the model picture
of the ad from like,
this has got to be like early 90s.
It's given like at least 95.
It says the Moondrops wet lipstick,
a lick of glistening color
that won't dull as the day goes on.
Bright stays bright.
Oh, brights stay bright.
Pales stay pale.
OK, they won't change
their mind on your mouth.
That isn't such an odd thing.
You would never hear a brand
advertise something like that.
Like it won't change
their mind on your mouth
or like pales stay pale.
That would not fly in this day and age.
My God.
This is this is
this is why we progress, people.
OK, this is we got to move on.
Anyways, whatever.
Continuing the description
of this product
and the super moist texture
gives you fashion's favorite
look.
Wet, wet, wet.
What?
Spilling with shine
in dozens of pale
to plummy fashion shades.
41 count them all.
Anyways, the formula itself
sounds really, really interesting.
The description.
I don't know about that girl.
We need to like modernize that.
We need to like work
on that a little bit.
But like 41 shades
from her back in the day.
I'm like, my God.
Also, because Revlon
is kind of in the same boat
as CoverGirl, not a brand
I really use a lot nowadays.
I don't remember the last
time I used Revlon.
Let me know if there are
any current Revlon products
I should try.
You had things like the photo
ready primer, which I don't
I didn't even realize
they don't make this anymore.
I feel like this was
like a cult classic.
Like it was in so many magazines.
So many YouTubers recommended it.
It was a good like
drugstore primer option.
I haven't dabbled in a lot
of Revlon mascaras,
but the one I remember
and love so much
was the grow luscious mascara.
And I went to go purchase it
like I don't know
the last like few years.
And I was like, oh, yeah,
I'll try that one again
because it was so conditioning
and nourishing.
And I remember this was a time
where like my lashes
were just like so dry
and I went to go purchase it
doesn't exist anymore.
There's literally
no worse feeling in the world.
You think something still exists.
You go to buy it.
It doesn't exist anymore.
My God, when I worked at Sephora
and I would get some
like old lady come in,
they'd like be looking for
like their Clinique lipstick
or like Dior or something or other.
And I'm like, oh, I'm sorry, ma'am.
Like it doesn't exist anymore.
And it's just like heartbreak
on their face.
That's why I make all these videos.
They are my muse.
They are my inspiration.
OK, then we get into
the lip category before
we get into the one product
that I would need back.
Now, the lips are definitely
a close second place for products
that I would need to bring back.
The lip butters,
the Revlon lip butters
were truly iconic.
And I've talked about them
so many times on my social media.
And I always say it's like
the one product from Revlon
that I would need to bring back.
But here we are.
There is still another product
I have not talked about.
So obviously it's not
quite my number one anymore,
but it is still so, so iconic.
It was so glossy, such good shades,
just a good amount of pigment,
but like still sheer.
The smell was also like lovely.
It was very, very subtle,
but like a little something, something.
It was so, so good.
But the other lip chapter from Revlon,
which needs to be studied
and needs to be brought back
is the balm situation.
Firstly, you had the just bitten
kissable balm stains.
There were so many different formulas
of this like crayon situation.
It was a little bit confusing,
but I believe there were
only three different formulas
and then like different collections
or variations and shades
of them throughout the years.
But the just bitten kissable
balm stain was the OG of the three.
I believe that one was just like
sheer tint that stains
like a classic like lip crayon
balm type formula
that we saw at that time.
This was like what,
20, 2012, 2011 ish.
Then you had the color burst matte balm.
That one came along
a little bit later,
obviously when like matte lips
were all the craze.
It was like super, super popular.
And that was obviously
the matte finish of the crayon.
It was very similar to the
Bite Beauty matte crayon situation.
The one that I love so much
loved past tense.
Then you also,
then you had the color burst
lacquer balm.
And this was like the glossy one,
the super, super glossy one.
So not as much pigment
to the original one,
but still really,
really moisturizing,
really, really sheer.
So glossy, such,
such a beautiful, shiny finish.
And that was like when I found out
Revlon got rid of those lip products.
I was like, what are you doing?
The lip butter and
the balms and everything.
I'm like, but you were doing lips so good.
And I feel like
because I've been talking
about Bite Beauty so much,
I feel like that's why
this is on my mind.
I did a whole video
on the rise and fall of Bite Beauty.
Go and check it out
if you haven't already.
I talked about how the thing
I loved about Bite Beauty
the most was the fact that
I mean, originally
before they had their rebrand,
but it was the fact
that they did lips
and that was it.
Like they stuck to what they knew.
They stuck to what they liked
and were passionate about
and just like built off of that.
I feel like Revlon to me
would be a really good
drugstore bite alternative
because their lip products
were so good.
And like there are a few
products here and there,
which I really, really
like from Revlon,
like face products,
mascaras, things like that.
Although they discontinued
my favorite mascara,
but like whatever.
But I feel like what they did
so well were lips
and I mean, nail polishes,
like the original nail
polishes so good.
So it's like if they could
just like do that
and build off of that
and focus on that,
I feel like it would be so iconic.
And I just, again,
I know maybe that's niche,
but that's what I loved
about Bite Beauty so much
is that they were
just a lip focus brand.
Like I just appreciated that.
Maybe it does not make
a difference for anybody else.
Maybe people would actually
prefer for Bite Beauty
to do other things.
I don't know.
I just like the idea
of brands that like
focus on like one thing
like lips or eyes
or complexion or whatever it is.
But the Revlon product,
which I would absolutely
need back are these
street wear nail polishes.
We will narrow it down
to the nail polishes
because I feel like
that's the most iconic product.
But the whole street wear line
was so, so good.
This was mostly a thing
in the 90s.
It did make it through
to the early 2000s for a bit.
I don't recall off the top of my head
when it disappeared completely,
but it did eventually.
But essentially, like
the Revlon street wear line
was a whole sub line to Revlon.
Why did I say Revlon like that?
Revlon.
And the thing is,
and it was crazy at the time
because Revlon was like
the mom makeup brand.
Like it was like,
oh, yeah, you went for
like a classic lipstick
and it was very like
I just feel like it was very
like traditional and classic,
like classic Hollywood type makeup.
That's just like what pops in my head
when I think of Revlon.
Like you are a woman
who uses Revlon,
whereas like the Revlon street
wear line was like
for the girlies
and the people that wanted
to like experiment
and like play around
and have fun with makeup.
And this was so iconic
at the time because
there was nothing like this
at the drugstore.
And I mean, even still to this day,
we really don't see a ton
of like fun,
like experimental
kind of makeup,
like different nail
polish colors or formulas
or eyeliners or lipsticks.
And that's just it really made
the Revlon streetwear line
leaps and bounds ahead
of its time.
And I feel like a lot
of people appreciated it, too.
So I don't really understand
why it's not a thing anymore.
But eventually in the early 2000s,
it did disappear.
It made me so, so sad.
I think not only this was like
the most iconic time for Revlon.
I think this was also
one of the most iconic times
for the drugstore,
for drugstore makeup as a whole.
So if Revlon ever decided
to like relaunch this,
modernize it and revamp it
in for 2026,
I would be so down for that.
And I know so many
other people would.
Either way, guys,
I'm going to wrap up
this video here.
Thank you so, so much for watching.
Be sure to let me know
what Revlon and what CoverGirl
products that you would want back.
To me, these were kind of
like two random brands,
but two drugstore brands,
which still deserve
to be talked about.
So they weren't quite
on the same wavelength
as the other brands
I've talked about
in my other videos.
But I hope you did still enjoy.
If you did, be sure to
like this video,
share it with a friend
and subscribe to my channel
so you don't miss out
on future videos.
Without further ado,
I hope you have a great
rest of your day,
wherever you are,
and I will see you next time.
Bye.
