AI GeneratedHaley transforms a guest room into a \"Coastal Cottage\" sanctuary on a budget. By combining thrifted finds, DIY upholstery, and personalized touches from her children, she creates a welcoming, Pinterest-inspired space for her parents. The project emphasizes sustainability and creativity, blending blue tones and wicker textures to achieve a cohesive, cozy aesthetic.
Another day, another morning of a long list of things
that we gotta get done in this house
because we are on a time crunch.
We are just a couple days away from our guests arriving
and their guest room is nowhere near ready.
So today we are giving ourself a mission.
A mission to finally decorate it all
and create what I would call
the cozy cottagecore Airbnb a la Haley's Corner.
And I don't know about you,
but I'm feeling very much in a matcha mood.
So let's make one together.
Well, hey babes, what is up, it's Haley,
and welcome back to my channel.
We need that little bit of boost of caffeine
because we are on a time crunch, you guys.
As you know, in my last vlog,
I actually took you guys along
in starting the guest room makeover
where I'm preparing a tiny little extra bedroom
that we have to be the ultimate guest bedroom.
In part one, I took you guys along with me
where we thrifted for some fun decor,
shopped for some fabrics, put up some bead board,
added wallpaper, and truly just got the bones
of this room ready for what it is
I wanna finish it up with today.
And so we're gonna get right into it.
For today's video,
we're gonna be adding all of those charming details,
those DIY projects that will hopefully make this room
feel very lived in, very cozy,
and truly like a little coastal cottage getaway.
I am into everything blue and floral and charming right now.
Today, I'm gonna be applying some of the feedback
that you gave me in finishing up this room.
I'm finally going to tackle the headboard.
We got some new fabrics that we can test out
and so many decor pieces that I thrifted in my last video
that I cannot wait to add.
If you are very much in your summer girl
coastal cottage era right now,
you're gonna get a lot of inspiration hopefully
from the little details I'm gonna add to the space
that you can hopefully add into your house too.
If you're loving everything blue and white right now,
just like I am.
Time is ticking.
We only have a couple of days to finish this up.
So I'm gonna take you on right upstairs
and we're gonna jump right back in
into our actual headboard DIY.
Let's head on out.
Oh honey, it's finally your turn.
Your time has come
because she's just been waiting here patiently
for her makeover.
And you guys, truly, I have thought about this
back and forth.
Part of me was like, do I just clean it up
and leave it as is?
Half of you told me, keep it simple, keep it clean,
swap out fun bedding.
And half of you said no.
The more patterns, the better.
And I think that's the half
that I'm choosing to listen to.
We're gonna do it.
We're gonna take her from bland and basic
to fun and whimsy and colorful.
But first things first,
she most definitely needs a good cleaning.
Even though you guys can see the headboard
is actually in pretty good condition,
there are some minor areas where it's dirty.
But more than that, we are gonna be recovering it.
I want it to just smell fresher.
And so of course,
I'm gonna be using my favorite little green mini.
You have any kind of thrift funds at home
that require a nice deep clean.
I use this on rugs,
I use this on furniture.
I even used it to clean my little chair
there in the back.
You just fill it up with some water,
add in some of that oxy cleaning solution
and you're ready to go.
So headboard, it is time.
Let's give you a nice good wash.
All right, the headboard is looking so nice and clean
and more importantly, it just smells fresher.
Because let's be real,
I would be a very, very cruel host
if I let my guests sleep
with something that's dirty like this.
Only the best for people staying at Haley's Corner Casa.
Okay, we're gonna get to recovering this
in just a little bit
because I do need it to fully dry
before we put the new fabric on top.
So I think in the meantime,
I'm gonna take you on downstairs
to my new storage closet
and we're gonna start pulling all of the things
that I've thrifted
to see what we wanna add into this room.
The guest room that I'm currently renovating,
as you remember,
it actually used to be basically my thrift storage room
and with how much I've been collecting
specifically for this room,
we have basically officially assigned
another space in this house
as the thrift storage room
and that is the storage closet right behind me.
Remember when we made this door?
Well, behind it,
it is basically keeping all of my thrifted treasures
that I've specifically gathered for this room
or for future spaces in this house
and I thought that right now,
you and me,
you and I,
we're gonna go through it together
and start pulling some of the items
that I specifically wanna add to this room.
My little helper is right here with me.
Eliana's in that sitting stage right now
and she's gonna be observing
just all the beautiful thrift finds
that her mom has gathered over this time.
So let's go on ahead
and get ready to tackle
and go through my newly updated thrift closet.
Okay, moving on to artwork.
I think I've thrifted so many good art pieces
over the last couple of thrift trips.
Some of them I think will be perfect in the room.
Whatever we don't use,
I'm definitely gonna find another place in the house
but the one thing I will say about artwork,
it is so rare to find gorgeous artwork
that is also in a perfect frame for it
so what I actually already did
is I always kept in mind the artwork pieces that I love
and tried to thrift different frames for them
that would fit the corresponding picture.
You can already see the vibe that I have going on,
those butterfly photos.
I absolutely love the frames
and then we've got these two sisters over here
which are true pastel paintings.
These will be so pretty propped up next to each other
and they give off those gorgeous coastal vibes
because of all the water.
Speaking of water,
I always loved this line drawing of the boat.
I do feel like the frame is way too big for it
so maybe I'll frame that into something smaller.
On my latest thrift trip,
you saw that I found these gorgeous paintings.
Claude Monet is my favorite artist, absolute favorite
and I love this boat's portrait.
I think it is so beautiful
but I'm not loving the burgundy frame
that's coming with it
so my plan is to keep this artwork,
swap it with this frame
and then even this cottagecore flowers are really pretty
so I may reframe that into something else as well
but we're basically just gonna swap it all around
so that we have exactly the artwork we want for the space.
I just reframed so much of the artwork
and it looks so much better in these frames,
especially my coastal cottage Monet artwork.
I mean, truly.
I don't think I could have found anything
that would have been more perfect than this.
The colors are just so pretty.
They're gonna tie in that touch of blue into the space
but the gold frame is also gonna help warm it up
and I really wanted to go ahead
and reframe these ones as well
but the thing is,
these are the only frames that I have left.
I've literally used all of my other frames
and they're just too small.
They're gonna cut off too much of the picture
so I really don't wanna do that if I don't have to.
So I'm gonna save these
and then we're gonna reframe them
once I thrift some frames that actually match
but something else that I did in the meantime
is I went ahead and pulled basically all of the things
that I've thrifted in the past
that I think would look so good in this room
whether it be different vases, different decor,
you know, natural materials that will really help
with that coastal cottage element.
Remember this little frame?
I wanna go ahead and put our wifi password in there
and like prop it up on the nightstand.
We're gonna do all of that
but then I came across something else
that I completely forgot about
that I thrifted a little while back
and it was this.
Do you guys remember these?
These like little art kits
that were all the rage,
I wanna say in the 90s, the early 2000s
whenever somebody got this,
you had reason to be excited.
I thrifted it a few weeks ago
and I was waiting for a good opportunity to use it
and you know what I'm actually thinking?
This may be the perfect opportunity.
The girls are coming home early today
because it's summertime
and they only have half days at school
so I was thinking for the room
along with all of the decor and thrifted artwork
that we found,
how special would it be
if Aaliyah and Naomi made like little custom
welcome cards for my parents
using these little paint kits.
I thought that would be such a cute special touch.
We can like leave it on the nightstand
or on the little tray
that has all of the guest goodies.
It'll give the girls something to do
and also something special
that we can add it to the room.
So they're gonna be home in just a little bit
and as soon as they are,
we're gonna head on over outside.
I can actually show you the new table
that I thrifted for the backyard
and we're gonna get to painting some custom cards
because I still have a little bit of time to pass
until my headboard dries.
So that headboard recovering
is gonna be the next project we're gonna tackle.
All right guys, we are currently in my backyard.
It is actually such a sunny day today
but I had to show you the table that I thrifted
because I am so in love with it.
It is super bright outside
but take a look at it.
Truly the European table of my dreams.
She's already been outside for a couple of days.
She's waterproof.
I love all the details
and I cannot believe that I thrifted it for just $25.
This backyard still has a long way to go
but in the meantime,
let me get all the painting stuff set up here
because the girls just got home
and they are finishing up their dinner.
They are so excited to paint.
They already got a little sneak peek
at the paint kits that I thrifted.
So let's do a proper setup here.
Okay guys, everything is set up for them.
They are so excited.
I pull down when he gets a chance
to also put up the umbrella
because it is actually so sunny outside.
I brought out our little sunscreen box right now,
especially in Florida in the peak summer heat.
If we wanna spend any time outside,
we need to make sure that we're covered.
And you guys already know
how much I've been raving about Supergoop.
Supergoop is my absolute favorite sunscreen brand.
I've been using them for years.
Like when I was doing my entire patio makeover,
I was using my lotion every single day
because the Canadian in me, especially,
I get burned so quickly.
But I have to tell you,
when it comes to putting sunscreen on kids,
it used to be such a battle in this house
until Supergoop came out with this.
This is the Supergoop Play in a spray version,
but now they actually come in three amazing scents
for summer.
Aaliyah always hated the feel and the smell of sunscreen.
It was always such a battle to get her to put it on.
But this one, I got it in the whipped coconut scent.
It smells so good.
Literally like you're on a tropical vacation.
And the best part about it
is that it's a really like fine, continuous mist.
It dries down smooth.
It doesn't give you that like sticky feeling.
The antioxidant body mist is also infused with vitamin C.
And now that we actually have our pool outside,
the best part is that they can go swimming.
And I know that they're still protected
because it's sweat and water resistant.
I had the most sensitive skin.
I would break out from absolutely everything.
And Supergoop sunscreen is the only one
that I can apply on my face, on my body,
and it does not break me out.
And then the Everyday Sunscreen Stick,
this is the one that I carry in my purse on the go.
Whenever you wanna go and apply a little touch-up,
I especially love it for hands-free sunscreening.
Guys, we're in peak summer right now.
Whether you're a lotion girl or a mist girl,
you're gonna love both of these so much.
How amazing is it when I get to work with brands
that I've literally used myself for years?
So thank you so much to Supergoop
for partnering with me on today's video.
I'm gonna go ahead and link all my favorite sunscreens
from Supergoop down below
so that you too can find your play with Supergoop
the entire summer.
You guys ready?

Alia, tell me what you painted for grandma and grandpa.
I painted hearts.
A lot of hearts and a balloon.
I did a flower, and I also made a rainbow.
Stop filming me, I have to see it.
You had a fun painting day?
Yeah.
Show me your paintings.
All right, you guys, so it's been a little bit,
and at this point, the headboard is pretty much fully dry,
and we can get to upholstering.
This is the part that I was the most excited about.
The fabric arrived just last night after so much hunting.
I think I officially found the perfect piece,
and with all the back and forth,
plain, striped, gingham, we have decided,
well, I have decided to do the blue gingham.
I know, I know, patterns on patterns.
It may seem like it will be a lot,
but I actually have a feeling that this will add
all of the charm that I've been wanting in this space.
So this is the fabric we have working for us.
It is pure cotton, super, super durable,
and I think for upholstery, it will be perfect.
But we're not just stopping with this.
So what is one thing that almost
every cottagecore piece has?
It is touches of lace, and while I was cleaning out
the storage room downstairs, look what I found.
I found an entire bag of little lace trims
that I've thrifted before.
Do you guys remember?
For $2.99, I found all of these bags
full of lace trims, just like these.
They are so long, and they are so pretty.
And guys, I don't know if you're ready for this,
but we're gonna be adding this lace trim detail
on the gingham, and it's gonna look so precious.
But wait, it sounds complicated.
I promise it's not gonna be,
because if you're someone who doesn't like to sew
or doesn't know how to sew, no worries at all,
because this entire project, we are only gonna be using
a staple gun and fabric glue.
Liquid stitch, to be exact.
One of my absolute best friends,
because for a girl like me, who is always looking
through loopholes in life, I am cruising by
and seeing how long it can put off learning how to sew,
which is still on my bucket list.
But in the meantime, we've got our fabric,
we've got our tools, and let's give this headboard
the makeover she deserves.
Truly, babes, it does not get easier than this.
The most complicated part about it is really depending
on the kind of fabric that you're choosing to do.
Because of the fact that I chose a gingham,
I really wanna make sure that all of the squares
are gonna line up evenly, so that when the headboard
is propped up, there's no areas that are super wonky.
So I'm actually gonna be using some lines
that are already ingrained in the headboard
as kind of my guideline when starting this off.
I'm gonna pull the fabric taut and just, again,
make sure that all of the lines are as straight as possible
as I go in and staple it down.
I'm gradually doing a couple staples on both sides
just to keep it all together, and then once all of that
is secured, I'm gonna go back in and add the rest
of the staples, pulling it taut as I go
until the entire headboard is secured.
We are not even done, and guys, I'm already obsessed.
Are you ready to see this?
Take a look at our new gingham headboard.
It took me 30 minutes, that's it.
You see how much you can do with literally
just a staple gun?
I am so in love with how it looks.
The shape of the headboard is actually perfect,
but we are not done yet.
You see this little divot right over here?
That is actually where I wanna go in
and add in some lace trim.
I feel like it will give it the sweetest cottage touch,
and it will also help hide some of those staples in there
that I used to create that indent.
And would you believe that adding this trim
is going to be even easier?
This stuff is strong.
I even used this before I threw stuff into the wash,
and it was still bonded together.
I used to use it to make crop tops or hem my bottoms,
and now I think it will be the perfect way
to add on this trim without having to do any sewing.
So here's the plan.
I'm gonna go ahead and line that liquid stitch
within that indent, place this lace right on top,
and then I'm going to secure it with these little pins
just so that it can stay in place until it fully dries.
And then at that point, that's it.
We're done.
You guys, we're back in the room.
The headboard is officially in,
and honestly, I am surprisingly loving it.
Everything about the style, the design,
the size, the shape is perfect.
I tried my absolute hardest to get the grid
to kind of line up through everything
because it's definitely a lot harder.
You can see there's a few places that are a little wonky.
But hey, I'm here to show you all of the perfect parts
about DIYs and the not-so-perfect parts.
What I do really love,
using the liquid stitch to glue on the lace.
Like that is not going anywhere,
and you can't even see because it dries down clear.
Just looks like it was sewed in without having to sew,
which is amazing.
And guys, I mean, come on, for $15?
I don't think we could have done better.
Okay, $15 for the headboard, $15 for the fabric,
and then like $2 for the lace, some glue, some patience.
I'm so happy with it,
and hopefully it inspires you guys too.
If you are looking to repulsor a headboard,
truly just find one on Facebook Marketplace already.
Find a fabric that you love,
and then just invest in a $20 staple gun,
and that's all you need.
To customize something to your own home.
It is actually insane how just one piece of artwork
can make such a difference, but it looks so good.
I love the colors.
The different tones and colors in the painting
also allow me to add more colors into the space,
as long as everything ties into that.
All right, so we are officially moving on
to lighting and ambiance.
Truly, I really wanted to find a chandelier
in time for this video, which I haven't yet,
because I'm really sourcing something unique.
There is a little bit of lighting that I do wanna fix,
and it is the side tables right here.
I actually put my lamps from my bedroom right now,
just as a placeholder, but what I noticed
is because of the fact that this room is so small,
having table lamps just feels very, very cramped.
And on top of that, we also have a lot of blank space
going on in the bead board,
so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity
to fix two things in one.
And on Amazon, I was actually able to find myself
these wall-mounted, battery-operated gold light sconces,
which I can go and add to the wall.
It's not only gonna fill up that space,
but it's also gonna clear away anything on the nightstands,
giving us more opportunity to add some decor,
like a vase with flowers, some picture frames,
some cute other details.
And did I mention it's chargeable?
So no hard wiring needed.
All we're gonna do is fill these up, get them on the wall,
and it's also gonna help us incorporate
that touch of brass that I really wanted in this space.
Now that the sconces are up,
let's go on ahead and move on to more decor.
As you guys know, I've been thrifting
and collecting so many items over time,
and something I really wanted to take advantage of.
I don't know how controversial this will be,
but instead of having just a book laying around,
why not visually display some of the images that are in it?
I found a painting print that I love so much,
and I think it would be so nice to be able to frame it.
So taking a thrifted frame,
I'm just gonna use the glass to outline the exact size.
And this is such a great way to use art books to decorate,
because of course, while looking through them is beautiful,
being able to visually see the beautiful prints
all the time is amazing.
And then another decor element I love that I've been seeing
is using plates to decorate.
They are so easy to hang up,
especially when you use these metal clamps.
And then finally, guys,
I've been teasing this little clamshell frame
that I love so much.
I thought it would be the cutest opportunity to use it
to kind of display our Wi-Fi,
you know, the way that you go to Airbnbs
and you have the Wi-Fi displayed.
The one thing I wanted though,
was a really antique looking backdrop.
This is me pulling out my DIY skills from elementary school,
but I'm actually using some coffee to stain some lined paper.
It makes the paper look super aged,
and that will actually be the base
where I can go in and write our Wi-Fi password.
This is not an accurate one, obviously,
but you get the idea.
And then finally, those two smaller frames that I had,
I thought this would be a perfect opportunity
to display the girls' artwork.
But I don't know, I just love this.
I feel like adding a personal touch like this to a guest room
is just so special
and something I know that my parents would love.
But at that point, all that's left
is just putting it all together
and seeing our Coastal Cottage guest room come to life.
I cannot believe it.
All of the sweat, all of the stress, the slight tears,
they were so worth it because guys,
I'm officially an Airbnb owner.
Welcome to Coastal Cottage a la Haley.
You guys, I know I say this after every single makeover,
but I actually think this is my favorite
or one of my favorite rooms in the house right now
because I'm so obsessed with this little guest room.
I cannot believe that just with a little paint,
some wallpaper, some fun, thrifted items, and creativity,
we were able to put all of this together.
So whimsical, so charming, a true Coastal Cottage.
And now having everything officially tied in together,
I love the headboard,
and I actually think it definitely fits.
In the beginning, I was thinking that the blue was too off,
but what I ended up doing
is just putting in different tones of blue.
You can see in the pillow,
there's a darker blue in the plate,
there's some navy going on in the artwork,
as well as all of the blue tones in the painting.
I actually think it pulls it together so well.
This is where I want you guys to comment down below.
Taking a look at all of this,
is this bedding and headboard combination
pattern-wise too messy?
Or do you feel like it works?
Because I do really like it,
but a lot of you guys did say
if I was to do a gingham headboard,
it may look a little bit messy together.
But comment down below right now,
let me know what you think about the headboard
and how it came out.
Do we make a good choice?
I still cannot believe that that was a $15 find,
that we were able to customize
into something that looks so expensive.
You saw I put together this little basket.
I always wanted to do this for guests.
Some makeup wipes, some toothbrushes,
a few face towels and hand towels as well.
A couple of the essentials like a sleeping mask,
a nice candle, some snacks,
and of course some skincare must-haves
like my favorite body lotion.
And my Canadian family,
they're not used to this Florida sun.
So I got a second one of my favorite sunscreen
because we do not want them getting burnt,
especially on day one.
Do you guys now see why it was such a good idea
to switch out the lamps for the sconces?
Because we freed up so much space on the table
to allow us to add some decor.
We have a lot of the cottage core.
Here's where we tie in the coastal.
The wicker material very much gives off that coastal vibe,
along with our little clamshell that we thrifted,
which is where I'm gonna display the wifi password.
It's a cute little touch
that makes it feel like an Airbnb.
I love our thrifted line drawing of the boat.
And because of the colors in here,
I actually pulled a couple of plates
that I already had, this brown one,
which is actually also an image of some people sailing,
maybe fleeing for their lives, I don't know.
And then this navy blue one,
we got a cute little couple sitting on a bench,
which just reminds me of my parents.
So it's very fitting.
Coming over to the other side,
we've got a little basket under here
with a couple of snacks,
as well as the thrifted frame
that I just put in a print from the art book.
Again, little ways like this is a great way to tie in blue.
There's a lot of blue going on here.
So then that's why I chose one
that had some blue in the artwork.
I thrifted this ring holder for 2.99.
I thought it would be really cute
because my mom is always taking off her rings before bed.
Because the girls are so excited for my parents,
I ended up framing the little artwork
that they made for them.
I think that will put such a smile on their face.
Because genuinely, you guys,
as much as you want a guest room to feel really pretty,
it's the little meaningful touches
that truly make guests feel very welcome.
And I feel like that is something
that my parents would appreciate.
The girls loved making it.
And I just know that when Aliyah and Naomi
are gonna show my parents this room,
the first thing they're gonna show them
is that custom artwork that they made for them.
And you know what?
I actually love this tradition
and I think we're gonna keep it going.
Whenever we have new guests arriving,
I'm gonna ask the girls to paint them something new.
And it'll be a cute little story that we can tell them
as soon as they come here.
We did not get a chance to finish up the Roman shades,
but honestly, I really like the way
that the curtains look right now.
I kind of feel like we should keep them as is.
They also block out this bright light really well.
So in the meantime, we're making this work.
I also really wanted your advice
on one thing that I haven't done yet.
And that is add a light fixture to this room.
We obviously have a recessed lighting,
which brightens the room,
but I really wanted to add some kind of lamp
or light over there that will be a yellow light
that they can turn on more at night
when they want it to be more chill and calm.
And I always feel like a light fixture in a room
is basically the jewelry of the space.
So at this point, taking a look at this room
and what it looks like,
comment down below what kind of light fixture
you think I should get.
Should I try to get a blue and white chandelier
similar to the one that you saw at the thrift store?
Should I maybe get like a rattan or wicker one instead?
Should we do a single dropdown pendant?
Like I would really love your advice
because I have no idea what would look good in this space.
I don't know if the blue and white will be too much.
I don't know if I should lean more in the coastal
and do more of those natural materials.
Whatever you guys comment down below
will help me out so much.
Like you always do,
I'm sure that you guys will guide me
in giving some advice on what will be the cherry on top
to finishing up this room.
So comment down below what light fixture we should add here.
And lastly, the only thing I was not able to finish in time
was I was hoping to thrift myself a shelf over here,
as I mentioned to you guys,
and do a little vanity.
So if my mom wants to like get ready
or do her makeup in the morning,
she could do it here.
I also needed a way to kind of hide
all of these electrical cords for our wifi,
but you know, another project for another day.
But in the meantime, just take a look at this view.
I am so in love.
This is my Pinterest board come to life.
Well, you guys,
this definitely took longer than expected,
but I'm so happy with how it turned out.
I mean, I kind of want to sleep in here now,
which come to think of it,
it's insane that the guest room is pretty much done,
but my own bedroom,
I have not even touched yet.
That's yet another makeover to add to the list.
So be sure to subscribe
if you guys do want to see me
as I slowly, slowly personalize this house
and just make it my own.
I want you guys to comment down below
what you think of the room
and how it turned out.
If you have any like tips for me,
things I can add,
things I should remove.
And with all that,
it's your advice and your tips
that has brought us to the point that we are.
So thank you.
We really did truly do this together.

you know that you're the real MVP.

Because I feel like if I was to name my Airbnb,
that is exactly what I would call it,
the Coastal Cottage Corner.
It's very fitting.
It's very me, right?
So comment down below
if you guys are watching up to this point,
you are really my favorite kind of people.
I am so excited to spend quality time,
not just with the family that's coming,
but my family that's going to be visiting me
constantly in the future
and my friends too.
Now they have a beautiful,
very Hailey-esque place to stay.
And hopefully it will make their trip
that much more special.
Love you all so much.
Thank you so much for watching.
And I can't wait to see you in my next one.
