Lorena shares her process for transitioning her kitchen, dining room, and living room for summer. She focuses on brightening the space using wicker textures, faux florals, and pops of color, while blending new finds with repurposed decor to create a refreshed, seasonal atmosphere.
Hi friends! Welcome back to my channel. If you're new here, hello! My name is Lorena.
Today we are decorating for summer in our kitchen and dining room. I'm gonna keep things pretty
simple but I am updating a few pieces just to make it feel more summery in our home.
We also got a new rug and couch for our living room so I'll be sharing that with you guys.
So if you do decorate for summer, I hope you get some ideas today and enjoy!
I first removed all of the spring decor that I had out but I did leave some everyday pieces
that I will probably have in the kitchen most of the time and then just add in some summer
touches. This is the decor I'm going to be using. Most of it I've had for a while. I only got a few
new things. I'll be using some faux florals and pops of color with some art. Also using lots of
wicker items and some new summery glasses. Just want to brighten up the kitchen and add in some
fun pieces. I'm first going to wipe down the countertops and island before I add in any decor
and since moving into our new home, the kitchen is one of our favorite spaces. We really do love
it so much. It has great storage and lots of counter space. The quartz we chose is so durable
and looks beautiful. The only thing we do want to do in here is get a hood vent cover so that
is something that we will plan to do in the future. We're also working on our little bar
and coffee area that's behind that arch right there. We already got some shelves so we're going
to be installing those and it'll be so fun to be able to add decor in that space and if you have
any questions about the quartz we chose or the color of the cabinets or any of the finishes,
let me know and I'll also link our home tour below where you can see all the details as well.
Starting on this corner, I always have that little lamp there
and I'm just placing this wicker footed bowl and using a tea towel on it to hold our fresh fruit.
It's a functional decor and the wicker material is something I think looks perfect for summer.
And next to the fruit bowl, I have these bread boards and cookbooks by the stove
and I'm going to add this rattan pitcher with some strawberry stems. I got them from Magnolia
recently and they are so pretty. They're perfect to use for summer and next year I can use them
for the springtime as well. They look pretty realistic and bring a beautiful pop of color
to the kitchen. I'm only using two stems but if you wanted to put them in a bigger vase,
you would probably need three or four stems and then just to finish off, I have this little
berry bowl I also got from Magnolia but a few years ago and it adds a pretty pop of color as well.
On this side of the stove, I have a scallop tray to hold the wooden utensils which I placed on a
planter I got from Walmart and I just added those colorful spoons as well and I'm just
going to add a tea towel, an oil dispenser, and some salt and pepper shakers. On the wooden
book holder, I'm placing a cookbook on a colorful summary page. It's the part of the book that starts
the summer recipes so it's perfect to have it open here. Next to it, I'm adding a faux herb plant
which I love the planter it comes in and finishing off with a small floral bud vase for more color.
I love having these glass canisters here. I'm just placing a small plate by them.
I've been using it to hold my rings when I wash dishes. It's so pretty with a little
lemon and looks like something you would find at anthropology but I found it at Hobby Lobby.
For the glass cabinets, I'm mostly keeping the same neutral decor I had for this spring.
I'm just going to add in some wicker wrapped glasses.
I've had them for several years and I love bringing them out every summer.
And same thing for the other side. I'm keeping it all the same and just switching out the icon
glasses I had for spring. They have flowers on them and for summer, I have some from anthropology
that have little bumblebees. I love having different ones for every season and I'm so
excited for when fall and Christmas come to not only change out these glasses but I'll be
switching out most of the decor here in the glass cabinets.
This tea towel I got recently from Magnolia and love the little strawberry details.
It matches perfectly with the strawberry stems and it ties it all together.
For the island, I'm starting with this tall vase I got from Target a couple of years ago
but I saw they actually have a very similar style at Pottery Barn and I'm just adding in
some faux green snowball stems. I got these on sale at Pottery Barn and they are so beautiful.
I'm only using two stems since they are so big and also the opening of the vase is small enough
for only two stems to still look nice and full. They're really tall so these would look great
on an entryway table but I love how they look here on the island. And then next to it, I got
this white seashell looking bowl from Michaels. I think it's perfect to add for summer decor
and something I feel I will pull out to use every summer. Just filling it with some faux artichokes
to finish off here. I'm moving on to decorate this black glass cabinet. I actually wasn't going to
change out the decor I had from spring but I decided I wanted something a little different
so I'm going to redecorate the top two shelves and leave the third shelf the same. And then for
the bottom shelf, I never change it out. I just have some wicker baskets that hold hosting items,
tablecloths, and placemats so it's functional and just always stays the same. For the top shelf,
I'm starting with some pictures. The first one is from Crate and Barrel and this rattan wrapped
black picture is from Walmart a few years ago. I truly do use so much of my decor year after year
and only add a few new pieces here and there but even reusing the same things, I still feel like
my decor looks refreshed every season. And then for the middle here, I just place some books and
this paper mache bowl and then I'm going to finish off the shelf with a wooden base and some faux
palm leaves I love using every summer. On this next shelf, I have a planter. I'm adding faux
flowers too. These look like wildflowers blooming all over where we live so it's fitting to add
them here. There's so many pretty wildflowers all over the roads near us and actually some
white flowers that look just like these growing on the hills behind our home so these are perfect.
And then finishing off with some framed art of a boat on the lake I got from Etsy
and next to it adding more of the wicker look with a glass vase. And like I said, I just kept
all the same decor I had here on the third shelf so it looks so pretty for summer and overall love
how everything turned out in the cabinet. For the decor on the dining table, I'm going to keep it
pretty simple. I have a woven vase with handles I got from At Home and filling it with these stems
from Hobby Lobby. They have a really pretty pop of yellow on them and they're going to pair perfectly
with a candle I'll be placing next to the vase. I didn't want to use anything too tall here since
we do have dinner every day together on this table. I wanted something short enough to not
block us from seeing each other and also not block the view we have from the windows here in the
dining space so a shorter vase just works better. And to finish off, I got this candle from
Anthropologie recently. I'm just placing it on a stone coaster. It's a beautiful yellow color with
some painted flowers on it and just ties this look all together. And the last area we're decorating
is the bar and coffee station. We have wine glasses and barware inside of the glass cabinets
and the lower cabinets have some of my seasonal drinkware and kitchen items and one of the drawers
holds my coffee pot since my coffee maker is sitting on the countertop. Like I said, we'll be
adding some shelves here but for now just styling a few items to complete a little coffee station.
Starting with this woven tray to hold a few decor and functional pieces. First, I have a terracotta
vase with some colorful floral stems that have more of a dried flower look to them
and then I'm placing a marble container that has some chocolate eggs we didn't finish from
Easter time but we still reach for them once in a while so perfect to store them here.
And then just adding some stirring spoons I use every day for my coffee as well as a colorful
tea towel for some added texture and pop of color but also functional for any small coffee spills.
Next to the Nespresso machine, I'm so excited to add these framed art pieces I got from Etsy.
One is of an orange and the other one is a lemon. They add such a nice pop of color to this space
and are perfect for a summer kitchen if you're wanting to change out your art in a fun colorful
way. I totally recommend them and then just adding all of the mugs I love using for the summer.
I've collected these over the years from either summer vacations or it's just ones that I think
have a really pretty summer look. The only new one I got this year is this one with lemons. I found
it at Walgreens actually of all places. When I went to get these pictures printed, I spotted it
and thought it would be so fun to add to my summer mug collection. I also added this runner to the
kitchen and it's one I plan to use every spring and summer. It's a woven material with a scalloped
edge and white lines detail. I got it from Walmart and it's beautiful. Perfect to finish
off the summer decor here in the kitchen. Like I mentioned in the beginning, we did get a new rug
and sofa for our living room. They both fit this space so much better and are perfect to start
completing a living room makeover soon. The sofa we had from our previous home was a bit too small
for the space so the new one we got just looks like it fits a lot better. The rug is also larger
to just really ground the space and be a great anchor piece for all of the furniture that will
here. It's from Rugs USA and it's so soft and plush but it's also washable which is great since
it's a lighter color. The sofa is also a lighter color. It's from Wayfair but all the seats and
cushions have removable covers which is helpful to keep them clean. We did get a new sideboard
that is a dark color and should come in soon and then the coffee table will also be a dark wood so
it won't all be light colored in here but
this is all we've gotten so far and it's starting to come together.
And that's everything for today's video. I hope you guys enjoyed it and got some ideas.
