I m Repotting 3 Plants Today Come Along

Hey guys, today I'm back with a repot. Today for sure I'm gonna get through three plants. There
are definitely more plants I can get repotted if I find myself with the extra energy, but I'm not
going to force myself to do more than the three if I'm not feeling it. I'm gonna start with this
well-finned sansevieria. I'm very curious to see what this root system is going to look like. I
am going to be rehoming this and I've been talking to somebody in Instagram DMs who specifically
requested this plant, so Stockton repotting this for you. I don't know if you're here or if you're
only with me on Instagram. Anyway, I'm gonna repot it because I do want to keep this pot
and I'm gonna meet up with him sometime soon to pass this along. First, I do have this topped
with some large rocks. I am going to set these off to the side. For some reason, I have this
habit of being like, okay, in order to be able to be, what's the word? Since we're repotting,
repotting is the example. I feel like I have to do all of my repots, like get all of my repots
done. Otherwise, I'm not really accomplishing anything. You know what I'm saying? So something
I'm actively working on and trying to be better at is telling myself, just do what you can do.
Even if I can only repot one plant, that's one less plant that I'll have to repot tomorrow or
the next day or the next day. I don't know why I've fallen into that weird mindset. Let me know
if any of you guys can relate to that, but I do have probably like 10 plants I could repot right
now. I'm not gonna. I'm just gonna do what I can because it's still making progress. This is the
plant. It's a wealth in Sansevieria. It's a gorgeous plant, but it just doesn't really,
no, that's not true. I do really like this plant. I'm just gonna get rid of this one.
I don't think that I'll feel sad about it down the line. I really, really don't.
And for now, I'm just gonna be potting it into here. I don't even remember the last time I
repotted this. Hasn't been that long though. It's definitely been in the last couple of years,
I would say. Oh yeah, this doesn't even really need to repot. Oh my gosh, those roots look
awesome. Sometimes when I think about myself and my plant keeping, how much I kind of neglect my
plants where I used to be a helicopter parent. I think like I'm not a very good plant parent,
but I actually think I maybe am a good plant parent because a lot of my plants when I go
to repot them have really awesome root systems. Let me bring this one closer to show it off to
you. Yes, you believe me. And it is pretty thirsty right now, but those are some substantial
root systems. You can see it's like molded to the shape of the planters. Wow, those look awesome.
Good job, me. And it looks like it has a new rhizome there. Okay, I gotta show you this too.
That's really kind of creepy, but a good sign as far as plant health goes. This new rhizome
will eventually turn into a new offshoot of the plant. And how I was saying often, I'm like,
I'm not even good at taking care of plants. I kind of am. I can't even lie. Right now,
I'm realizing I actually am because this was one leaf when I got it. One unrooted leaf,
and now it's one, two, three, four, almost five offshoots. Very well-rooted. So again, good job,
me. All right, I'm not going to fill this whole pot up with potting mix because that just seems a
little bit excessive. And I'm assuming that Stockton will repot it into something they like
more. Only fill up like the very bottom. I'm going to set it on the saucer to help
contain the mess because the holes on the bottom of this are quite large. All right, there's the
mix. Now, I'm just going to stick this bad boy in here like so. And, you know, do as we do.
Backfill, as I call it. Although, there was this one lady who was very offended that I kept calling
it backfilling. I got this one super long paragraph comment. It was about how she hates watching my
videos because I call it backfill. And her husband is in construction, and it's not actually called
backfilling. I can't remember what it's called. But yeah, it was actually pretty mean. I'm not
even gonna lie, it was mean. Because at the end of the day, does it really matter? Like,
we all know. I'm assuming we all know what I mean. Isn't that what's more important at the end of the
day? To understand the concept, not necessarily use the correct terminology. That's my opinion
anyway. Yeah, that's it. That's all I'm doing. Easy, right? I am going to water this really
quickly. Let me go get some fish tank water. And I use this little measuring cup on a cork round
to water from the fish tank. It's looking like this potting mix is pretty, what's the word?
What's the correct terminology here? Okay, I can't think of the word. It's when the potting
mix is so dry, it won't hydrophobic. So to remedy this, I am going to let it sit in a saucer of
water for a bit and hopefully rehydrate. Pulling this one off to the side to let it soak up what
it needs to rehydrate. My next order of business is this Epipremnum Baltic Blue. I'm going to be
potting it into this planter, which I thrifted in a vlog, actually, a few years ago. You may
remember when I hauled this. It has little cherub babies, or maybe they're just babies.
Now some of them have wings and there's goats and grapes. No idea what this means, but I do really
love this planter. It's one of my favorite thrifts of all time. It is a bit more shallow than the
planter that this is currently living in, but that's fine. I mean, it's not actually by much,
so I think it'll be just fine. The reason I'm repotting this, there are roots coming out of
bottom. This Baltic Blue, I'm repotting it because there are obviously some pretty chunky,
thick roots coming out of the bottom of this planter. A lot of them, not even just one or two,
but also this is a plant I got at a big box store not too long ago. If you shop for plants at big
box stores ever, if you've ever bought one, the potting mix they often use is a very peat moss
based, and I hate peat moss as the main additive of a potting mix. I have plenty of issues with
peat moss in general. From a more sustainability measure, yeah, I'm not a huge fan of peat moss.
Look at this flatback millipede right there. You see that sucker? They're actually kind of cute.
These roots look really good. Really, really good. Very concentrated down here.
Reason for that, I believe, is back to my peat moss issues. It gets so hydrophobic so fast. I
swear every single time I water this and the next plant, I'll be repotting so often, double,
maybe triple as often as the other plants in my house, strictly because how quickly
the peat moss dries out. I think peat moss can work well if it's in a very humid,
greenhouse-type environment where there's a lot of moisture in the air, so the moss isn't drying
out as often. But in my dry household microclimate, I guess, it just does not work well because it
dries out too quickly. I can't keep it watered. It dries out so fast, and it's an issue. I'm going
to try and remove a lot of this. Into here it goes. There is no drainage hole in here,
but my potting mix uses horticultural charcoal, which helps keep bacteria to a minimum. It keeps
the bottom of this pot very clean and mold-free, so it'll be just fine. I'm going to pop this bad
boy into here now. And backfill question mark? What's it called? Nah, I just call it backfill
because I feel like that paints the picture of what we're doing, you know, like from a non-construction
history standpoint, I know what I'm talking about. I assume you guys do too. When I realized I was
going to be doing this repot and chat, I asked in the community tab if there were any topics
anybody was wondering about I could touch on today because sometimes I just have a hard time
thinking of topics in the moment, and I get so into my repot that I don't even end up saying
anything. So probably 50% of the repots I've ever filmed have never even made it on my channel
because it's just me repotting and not even saying any words. But anyway, I had a little
bit of forward thinking and I asked if there was anything you guys were wondering about or
wanting me to touch on today in the chat portion of this repot and chat, and there were a few topics.
Number one, probably the most common one, was running and asking if I was going to do
any more running videos. I do a lot of running content over on Instagram. I'll do vlogs of my
long runs. I don't do it so much on YouTube, but yeah, so I do plan to make more running videos,
running vlogs, I guess. More so, again, like on my short form Instagram, maybe even like TikTok
platforms. I don't really use TikTok, but I do kind of want to get over there because apparently
that's where the money's at. I don't know. We'll see. It might be worth a shot. I really badly
rolled my ankle end of May, and in a couple of days it's July. And it took me a full month to
recover enough to the point that I feel comfortable doing like multiple days of workouts.
So I am kind of, I mean like I'm not starting from square one or anything because I do feel like I
have a lot of an aerobic engine built up, that muscle memory built up that my body will probably
remember when I get back into it, but I haven't run more than five miles in a month, which is
crazy for me. And in fact, in June I ran like maybe 10 miles total, which is crazy for me
because I typically run like 20 to 30 miles a week. All that to be said, I will be getting
back to the running content. I love running. I feel very passionate about running. There's a
lot about running that makes me feel very good in my body and my mind. So yeah, I will definitely
get back into that. But with that being said, I'm like not quite sure when that will be,
honestly, because not only did I hurt my ankle, my father-in-law passed away a few weeks ago,
and I just feel tired all the time after that. Even though I haven't done a lot of physical
activity, I just feel exhausted all the time. And like all I want to do is sit around. And I
think a lot of that has to do with grief. So I'm not sure like when I'll get back into it. I know
at some point I will get back into it. I finally started working. I worked out three times this
week, got invited to sub for indoor soccer tonight. So I'm going to be doing that. This
will be my fourth workout this week, which is the most I've done since May. I will be getting back
into it. I just like don't want to push my body harder than it can handle. And grief can take a
toll in every way. I feel like for me, it really shows itself in terms of my physicality and like
energy levels. I just don't feel like I have the energy. I don't feel hungry. I kind of have to
force myself to eat lately, which is very abnormal for me. I'm very good at fueling my body, but
I don't want to do more than I feel like I can adequately like take care of my body for. You
know what I'm saying? I love running. I'm very passionate about running. I just don't know like
what that looks like or what the timeline specifically looks like, you know. So anyway,
here is the repotted plant. I think it looks so cute in here. I love the like blue hue of this
plant contrasting against this terracotta orangey pinky planter. I think it looks really nice. Oh,
it's so cute. I feel so good to finally have this repotted. Gorgeous. Oh, that looks great.
I'm going to go put it back where it lives, which is in Kaiser's room.
Your plant, I just repotted it.
Okay, you got to make sure you feed them every day or Marnie will take the animals away.
Next, this, it's also a type of epipremnum. I believe it's called
something sunrise. It looks like a golden pothos. I promise it is not a golden pothos.
It's different. It's different. Okay, it fenestrates so easily. Longer, skinnier leaves
as opposed to golden pothos, like wider, kind of somewhat rounder leaves. And as you can tell,
this one is severely thirsty. Again, back to the big box store, bulk greenhouse,
like potting mix a lot of places use. This is in the peat moss based mix and same with the last
plant, the Baltic blue, I just repotted. This dries out so quickly, so quickly, so dramatically.
It's like one second, it's okay. And the next, it looks like this. I have watered it. It just
hasn't perked up yet. I'm so sorry. There's a couple dead leaves here. I'm going to pull them
out. So sad. I hate peat moss. I really, really do. Even just sustainability aspects aside,
I think it's a crappy substrate. I do. And I know that's not everybody. I mean, let me know if you
share a different opinion than me on peat moss. Like, do you like potting in peat moss? I don't
know. I feel like that was the go-to for so long, but I just cannot, I just cannot stand it. I guess
is what it all comes down to. Ooh, these roots look great also. Let me show you. Definitely not
as root bound as those other two plants, but they are still very good looking. Very full. Wow.
What do you think? Good? I think good. They look great to me. I am glad that these aren't
too root bound. Like, they're definitely bound, but not like, they still have space, you know,
because I am going to be potting this back into this nursery planter. I actually,
maybe this is controversial opinion. I kind of like the way these nursery planters look.
Let me know. Let me know. This one in particular lives in my bathroom and I just,
it fits on the windowsill. I just think it's a good size for the space I have it in and for
the plant itself. Moral of that story, I'm going to be repotting it back into there because if
it ain't broke, don't fix it. Is that the saying? While I try and work through the substrate on
these roots, like get some of it off without breaking the root system too bad. One of the
common things people mentioned wanting to hear a little, little bit about today is my beading.
And if you're not with me on Instagram, I will link my Instagram down below. I post on my story.
I don't post very often, but I do post on my stories pretty consistently. Anyway, I have been
very into beading lately, like super into beading. I love it. I love peyote stitch.
I have made some little, I, well, I'm in the process of my second bag, but I made a little
like phone bag. Uh, I got into the bracelet thing for a minute. I'm kind of over that now, but
yeah, I love beading right now. It's my primary hobby and back to, and it's crazy because this
hobby came into my life. I feel at the perfect time, like where I mentioned, I'm not super high
energy right now. Like normally I like to spend a lot of time running, exercising, being outside,
hiking, camping. I just haven't been able to find that energy in me this summer compared to other
summers. And beading has been a great like filler for me. Um, if I want to feel like I'm accomplishing
something, creating something like it, it checks a lot of boxes for me. It keeps my brain distracted.
It's very relaxing. It's like, I can kind of just zone out a little bit and do it. It's something
I can do while I'm parenting. Cause it's very easy to just like stitch a bead, help my kids,
and then go back to stitching beads. I can watch my anime, which usually I watch anime when I'm
running on the treadmill, but where I haven't been running on the treadmill, I haven't watched
my shows as much other than when I'm beading. So yeah, I do. I have really enjoyed it this summer.
I think it's been great for me through this like grief, weird thing I'm going through right now.
Okay. I got my potting mix and I've got my disassembled root ball here. That's what I'm
going to call it. Yeah. It is going to go back to living in this planter. Like I mentioned,
I forgot what I was talking about. As far as my hobbies go right now,
beading and playing soccer. I always have energy for soccer. Oh my gosh. It's so exciting. Kai
just started playing soccer. My old coach who was the best coach I ever had. I even played like
division one and in college for several years, this coach was the best coach I had. He was my
comp coach. He's going to be coaching Kai. So I'm very excited about that. They've been doing
pride. He's gone into practices so far. This will be, he has practiced tonight. It's his third week.
I'm so happy about that, but yeah, I love playing soccer. Anytime Kaiser asks me to play soccer,
I will go out there and kick the ball with him. That's not something I will ever say no to,
um, activity wise because I want him to love it. I do. I really hope he loves it. I'm not
going to force it on him. If he ever expresses to me that he's not enjoying it. Um, gosh,
but I really hope because soccer team sports, I feel are so important. I gained a lot from
playing team sports most of my life. Anyway, I love playing soccer and I love beating right now.
Those are my two main things for sure. Speaking about plant hobby, I have really had to force
myself. I think downsizing my collection as I did in this video very recently was the best decision
I've made in a while. I feel really good with that decision. I have not regretted it for a second.
And even though I love keeping plants, I do really love keeping plants and like kind of
persevering with plants. I think that's what it comes down to with me is having the patience and
perseverance to stick it through with the plants to be able to reap the benefits of a larger,
healthier, more beautiful plant down the line. You know, like that's very rewarding and, and
what brings me a lot of joy in this hobby. I just have needed to back off a little bit. I have kind
of like with these repots, I dread a repot. I don't love a repot. I think it's, it's kind of
crazy because before I had kids, you know, when I started my YouTube channel in those first years,
I really enjoyed a repot and it was like something I genuinely looked forward to, but
I'm just in a very different stage of life now going through very different struggles now that
it's not something I look forward to. And in fact, a repot is something I dread about a hobby. I wish
I could just leave the plants in their planters for a lot longer than I'm able to. And it was
like before I felt like I was repotting them more than I should have, you know, like it's just crazy
how things like that can change. Let me know if you know what I mean. That's just, I do still
enjoy caring for plants, but that's just a part of it I really do not like these days. It's so weird.
I'm just such a different like me and me now and five years ago, me are very different people.
I kind of can't believe it. Um, okay, let me take this to the sink because I think I need
to water this in a little more because it's still very droopy. So come with me.
Yeah, I think that's my repot. I feel exhausted. I should repot my Thai pink lipstick plant.
I'm not doing that today. And it's not even like necessarily, I just don't want to have
to find a planter for it, but it does need repotted very severely. That's a future Harley
problem. I'm not doing that today. Anyway, I'm going to go put this back where it lives
back to my mess. I think I'm going to mix my potting mix all up in here.
I'm fine with peat moss as an additive. I just don't want it to be the main component, which
yeah, these big box store greenhouses are definitely using it as the main component.
But anyway, yeah, it's all going to go in there together. This mat is so convenient.
Um, that's my video. That's the repot. So I hope you got something from this. I'm so sorry. It
was a shorty. I know it was a shorty. I do usually try to make these a bit longer because I know a
lot of you repot alongside me. Um, but this is all I had in me today and I hope you can understand
I'll do my best to make the next one a bit longer, but I appreciate you being here with me. I really
hope this was worth your click and your time. Thank you so much for spending time with me today.
Hope you got something from this and yeah, it's very helpful for me and the future of my channel.
If you're able to leave a comment, thumbs up, watch this video all the way through to the end,
maybe click on to a few other videos of mine you've missed, catch up on them. I've done quite
a few videos lately, been really trying to stay on top of it through everything. Uh, so I appreciate
you taking the time to do that and yeah, that's going to be it for this one. Thank you so much
for watching and I will see you next time. Bye.
