In this video we're going to be cruising down highway 101 on the ultimate Oregon coast road
trip. Whoa it's like Mad Max! We'll be stopping at some of those iconic locations. This is actually
my screensaver on my Mac. And bucket list stops along the way to help you plan an Oregon coast
road trip you'll never forget. We're starting off our Oregon coast road trip at Ecola State Park
and already this road trip is starting up here because look at the view this is absolutely
incredible. It's actually our first full day in the US and this is what it's offering us so
we think this road trip is going to be an amazing one. We've got Crescent Beach here,
Cannon Beach the famous beach where a lot of films have been filmed and we're going to check
all that out but wow what a place. We can see people walking along the beach so there's a lot
of hiking paths around here. You can hike between the beaches all around the state park. It's a huge
headland which stretches right back to the next town along Seaside. We're taking a little walk
to see the Tillamook Lighthouse but we were just saying to each other how this is reminding us so
much of a day in the summertime in the UK like just the types of flora we have here and the
temperature even the the rocks around like Cannon Beach we have similar landscape especially around
Cornwall where I'm from in the southwest. It's really nice I'm missing home lately so this is
like a little bit of home for me but we have eagles soaring in the sky which is not quite the
same just a little bit of resemblance. Also in the Ecolet State Park is the Indian Beach Trail so
we are going to hike some of that section now and it's a beautiful day and we are hoping fingers
crossed for some beautiful coastal views but I also think this trail goes through a woodland as
well so it'll be very magical. This trail is already pretty amazing look at these views we're getting
here. The trail just hugs the coastline and it is so beautiful look at this. Now some of the trail
has been washed away by storms but I think since then I think 2016 was a big one
and they've repaired and replaced different sections of the trail. This section right here
is a little bit dangerous I won't get too close to the edge. This morning we're exploring the
town of Cannon Beach one of the most famous towns along the Oregon coastline it seems very cute so
far we just popped into a cafe called Insomnia this was recommended a lot it's very very popular
and we were greeted by six golden retrievers as we walked in so we like this place. Cannon Beach
is a very touristy town it kind of feels like it's like a movie set a little bit all of the
buildings are really like cute kind of pacific northwest kind of vibe everything's made of wood
it's really beautiful and picturesque but I have noticed that some of the prices in the restaurants
are quite high I don't know if that's normal here this is like our first impressions of American
pricing. Prices seem like that high and you have to add tips on top which yeah makes this a little
bit of an expensive place to eat out. We're at a coffee and wine bar called L-O-V-E spells love
and we just stopped for a little croissant because it just looks really sweet here and this is very
tasty. Now if like us you are doing this road trip in an RV they do have RV parking in town
there's limited parking up near the haystack rocks but in town they've got much more spaces
if you don't park in an RV site and you're in an RV you will be liable for a fine of up to 50 dollars
I think they just ticket people even if there's no spaces in the RV so you gotta be mindful of that.
Cannon Beach is split up in two different areas you have the Cannon Beach town and just further
up the road you have the access to Haystack Rock and Haystack Rock area seems to be busier there's
a few more cafes here definitely more of a crowd because everyone is coming to see the iconic rock
on the beach and we're gonna join them. And there are some very very nice homes right in front of
the Haystack Rock wow these places must be worth a lot. Look behind me at this beach entrance onto
Cannon Beach it is framed beautifully to see Haystack Rock we can see loads of birds flying
around it is really iconic it's somewhere I have wanted to visit for a long time and we are finally
here. It is a massive beach and it's actually very busy it's not even that warm today I think it's
about 14 degrees but everybody is out and I've just read that there's supposed to be puffins here
on Haystack Rock and someone passed by and he says they're definitely up there
so that would be amazing if we could spot one. That kind of looked like one
a white and black bird I'm gonna zoom in. Ah puffins but there's also a mix of seabirds up
there but I think we can see the little chubby puffins. The view just from this bench right here
is so incredible and the rock stacks are all along the coastline here it seems to be just
a feature of the Oregon coast so I think we're going to see a lot of them. We are starting to
make our way down the coastline now after Cannon Beach and just look at the views we are getting
we are just 10 minutes into our road trip and this is spectacular we're at a really high point so we
can see right down to the Pacific Ocean and the Oregon coastline and this view is just blowing us
away. This is just a roadside stop as well it's just like a viewpoint you can just pull off there's
loads of parking so very easy for even us in the RV but there's lots of signs here for the Oregon
coast trail I keep seeing it and we keep seeing bunches of cars like parked next to the road so
I guess they're accessing sections of the trail something we may have to come back for. We have
just checked into our first Oregon state park this is Lookout Point I think it's called and it's a
beautiful campsite we're right next to the beach we're just going to take a wander to have a look
what the beach looks like now but it's fairly cheap compared to private campsites around so
it's a good option if you're doing like long-term travel get that cheaper stay in we've got full
hookups, RV, water, sewer and electricity and now we've heard a lot about the sand dunes along the Oregon
coast and I think this is going to be our first experience of it we have to cross some sand dunes
to get onto the beach well this is a very very beautiful beach we've got the cape just to our
left and then on the right hand side we've just got this huge expanse of beach the roar of the
pacific ocean wow this is really lovely and some rocks down there I can see there's an archway
the rocks along the Oregon coast the sea stacks have been incredible you'll never believe what
we have just found at the end of the beach a little waterfall which I imagine in more
rain would be coming down a lot heavier how cool is that
the weather on the Oregon coast today is crazy we've had to skip god's thumb yeah and also devil's
punch bowl because people couldn't even get out their car without being blown away we've just had
to pull over because the RV was just kind of you could really feel the wind and the rain was intense
this morning but we thought oh it's rain hopefully we'll get a few clear patches but when the wind
came as well it was just like there's no way we can be traveling and doing our excursions
our day trips especially on the coast so we've had to just park up in walmart and we're hoping
that this weather passes I think it's going to get a bit worse and then we're going to slowly get
better but it's uh it's not great weather the wind is wild it's raining and the wind gusts I've just
worked it out as up to 46 miles per hour pretty pretty hectic anyway the gusts are strong so
we're hoping we can just have a rest here we've got a walmart we've got everything we need supplies
it looks like all of the kayaks have been blown over oh no um and then hopefully we can get back
oh my goodness today's weather has been atrocious for exploring we've passed so many beautiful little
towns and rocky outcrops and viewpoints beaches but we just have not been able to stop because
the weather has been like this even worse I think we're going to try and stay here for the night
because it's on iOverlander as a free camp spot and it looks pretty wild out there in the ocean
but I think this could be the spot wow the waves are breaking so hard down there but honestly I
wish we just had better weather today because it would have been so nice to see all of those
amazing places with the sunshine and to be able to stop but we're on a bit of a tight time schedule
so we're going to keep moving even if the weather is not great well after a very windy evening we
have finally got some better weather the sun is actually trying to come out and we are at
fawns well now this place seems very popular there's a lot of people going down onto the cliffs
actually far too close to the water than I think they should be going it's quite dangerous
sprouting horn I think that's the name of the blowhole but it's called an ocean geyser here
the coastline here is so rugged and mythical looking you get the sea mist and the fog up in
the trees all around it's really really magical we're going to go down to thaws well now and get
a closer look hopefully not get swept away behind me is falls well apparently it's also known as the
drain hole of the pacific but every so often when a big wave comes the water will come up through
the well and just spur outwards so you can get wet if you hang around too close to the well
or just the shoreline there's lots of big waves to be careful but this place is really popular
there's so many people coming down and just trying to take a photo of the water spurting up
we've just pulled up at a stop called sea lion rock to spot sea lions and I think they're here
because we can smell them there's a very strong smell in the air which we learnt with sea lions
when we did a tour on Vancouver island so I guess I have to take a peek over here and have a look
around on the rocks and see if we can find them now can you see them wow there's a lot there is a
lot there must be a lot because it smells now just up the road only a quarter of a mile up the road
from the viewpoint where we saw the sea lions is that sea lions cave official lookout and it says
that it's home to America's largest sea cave so I think this is going to be see if a restaurant
or it's a really good lookout spot very popular we'll go check it out I can't believe it we've
paid $18 each to go down in an elevator to the sea cave we had no idea this place existed
I'm a bit nervous an elevator sounds scary and the image they showed
funny oh my god wow there's so much happening right now so we're going to go in this elevator
all the way down to the cliff so right below us is this massive sea cliff there is a whale
watching dick uh just down here and there's a beautiful view of some sea stacks the ocean
hopefully some whales but I think we're going to take the elevator first it's the most exciting
I'm a bit nervous
oh my god oh we're going down how far down are we going quite away I think I'm just trying
to not think about what's above and around me it's kind of terrifying but I like this you feel
like so many times we know what we're going to do and this is a complete surprise obviously
oh my god there's water dripping this is crazy this is like we stepped into a james bond
underground lair we are right in the sea cave so we can see the sea lions and some
seabirds around us it's quite loud here because you have the waves crashing and then the noise
of the animals and it's actually not too smelly it's smellier up there maybe the wind carries it
but this is incredible they have some information here that you can read I think kids would love it
here this is such a cool surprise really impressed then there's another little lookout up there I can
see some light coming into the cave so I'm going to follow the light it's so hazy in these caves
from all the sea mist and the white water we've got a great view of the birds as well there's
these birds and they're nesting here we just saw an eagle fly in to try and steal one of the baby
chicks and they all freaked out but I think it got away without getting anything charlotte's very
concerned alongside the underground elevator to america's largest sea cave is also this other
section which is officially the whale lookout area so if you want to go down there you can pay for
the binoculars or bring your own but we've been standing nearby but we can't see any whales so
we'll leave but this place is really awesome highly recommend it that was definitely an experience to
go down into that sea cave bit scary but really cool we have made it to the oregon dunes we're
right on the coast and we have these massive sand dunes these dunes can rise up to over 500 feet
in height and like most dunes they are ever-changing shape and position on the the
dune field we're going to go up to a little lookout and see what we can see the oregon sand
dunes actually stretches all along the coast it's absolutely massive there's also a lot of people
riding their atvs here so you can see them coming into the park and I think there's dedicated areas
where they can drive it but here thankfully it's just for walking so you don't get run over but
this stretch of coastline is absolutely massive as you can see it's quite remote too there's not
many people here but it does remind me a little bit of some of the beaches I have my hometown in the
just off the highway you can find spots like this
amazing dune formations and now i'm going to get back down to the rv
there's just so much sand and it's all right here all of the sand along the coast now there
are plenty of walking trails and campsites that you can use in the dunes area we're going to
continue heading south there's more dunes to see and more campsites and stuff and we're on a time
schedule on our oregon coast road trip but this is a wonderful spot we thought we'd seen the best
of the sand dunes and then we came here the sand dunes here are absolutely massive I mean seriously
look at this place absolutely beautiful as well you have this whole area which people are just
loving on their atvs they're just all going past now it's quite loud and then we have the ocean on
the other side and the sun has come out so it's a beautiful afternoon to exploring the sand dunes
the lot of them they're all coming and you got like the little ones with little kids on them
it's very cute whoa it's like mad max we've just exited off highway 101 and we've come to a
beautiful place called sunset bay and as you can see it's gorgeous here it's supposed to be one of
the best places to swim on the oregon coast because it's quite sheltered today's a little
bit windy but when the tide's in here and imagine if there was no wind we think this spot would be
absolutely beautiful there's people just parked up with their camp chairs just admiring the view
so we're going to take a little walk along the beach though and check it out the rocks out here
protect the cove so well so that you can get really nice flat calm swimming in here and I've heard this
is an amazing place to watch the sunset hence the name sunset day we're at bandon beach and this
stretch of coastline is absolutely incredible some of it is actually reminding me of the
hornish coast in the uk where i'm from but we are going to go and take a walk on the beach
it's huge but we're on the lookout for one rock in particular it's a famous rock which is highly
photographed and we want to see it it's called the wizard's hat looks very cool we're going to
go down onto the beach and get a closer look i feel like cannon beach and haystack rock is like
the most famous beach for the oregon coastline but i think this stretch is actually way more
interesting to look at really cool spot we have found the wizard's hat as you can see is in the
shape of a wizard's hat so it is very famous a lot of people come down here and get photos especially
at sunset but it looks really awesome there's actually lots of just rock formations around
here so you can probably use your imagination and see lots of stuff but for some reason this
one is just very famous we have finally made it down to this samuel h boardman scenic state corridor
and it is so beautiful it does not disappoint the drive out here was beautiful in itself there
was so many rock formations and beautiful coastal drives along that highway 101 but as you can see
we have come to the southern part of the coastline now and it's beautiful hello squirrel
i think people looked at me and said hello next stop on the road trip is arch rock we're going to
take a little walk down to the beach sound and this car park is just worth a stop to come have
a picnic there's picnic benches here and have an amazing view as long as you don't mind sharing
your lunch of squirrels there's a lot here hi i've seen a lot of photos and videos of these beaches
in the past and actually right now my screensaver on my mac is this oregon southern coast
a beautiful drone shot at sunset people love to come down here and capture those shots at sunset
we are getting to the afternoon it's starting to look beautiful but it's quite windy it's amazing
and this bench is in the most perfect position you have the whole coastline which we just drove down
which was just absolutely breathtaking then you have a view of arch rock just below i don't think
we can get down to the beach no i don't know why i thought we're going to the beach we're not
but it's okay because this view here is enough it's beautiful these beaches are insane they're
so good oh my god oh no careful we're on a mission we're trying to find the secret beach apparently
we follow this trail we met someone at the top they said that it's a relatively short trail
but it's steep but they said it's the most beautiful beach along this coastline so we
have to go and try and find it and there should be waterfalls as well so it sounds really magical
we found the first waterfall wow it's pretty this place is very magical isn't it oh my god i feel
like i've been transported to another world it was so windy just a moment ago when we're looking at
the arch wow this is so pretty i'm so impressed by the southern oregon coast i think this is where
oh my goodness this is actually the spot from my screensaver on my mac i can't believe it i'll try
and show you guys a screen recording of the screensaver but this is it i recognize these
rocks so there's three waterfalls in total on this beach we've seen one already up the forest
there's one right here and there's one i believe just around this corner the only thing is we got
to try and time it with the wave so we don't get wet quick come okay not now oh god you gotta run
because the tide comes up wow this has to be the most beautiful beach we have definitely visited
so far on our us adventure it is breathtaking it feels like we're in a movie set a fantasy
land it's beautiful i mean it's not too hard to access look out
i think we've saved the best for last we're going to check out the famous
natural bridge it looks like a screensaver which it is it's on cory's mac
it's beautiful we are following a little goat track down to the natural bridge you can get
closer down there um it's on all trails as a marked trail so we're just going to follow that
and hopefully not fall over wow this is a spot this is such an amazing way to end our oregon
coast trip here at natural bridge but natural bridge is pretty awesome but all around it as
well it's so beautiful you can even see far off into the distance in the coastline and more just
rocks scattered out into the pacific ocean it is a little bit dodgy here though um the erosion
around here and it's a bit slippy people keep muttering to themselves be careful
so definitely be careful i wouldn't recommend going on the actual bridge but if you want to
that's up to you pretty bloody cool you can walk right across natural bridge and up onto the
archway i don't think i'm going to give it a go but it's cool you can do it let us know in the
comments which stop along the oregon coast road trail was your favorite i think mine was secret
beach next up is california so make sure you subscribe for that adventure
thank you for watching and we'll see you again soon bye
