I'm at Clacton-on-Sea, the town where Nigel Farage has resigned as the Member of the UK Parliament
to force a by-election so that he can stand again.
This followed intense scrutiny of his finances,
including an undeclared donation of £5 million.
The leader of Reform UK says his decision
is to let the people of Clacton be the judges of his actions.
But what do people really make of this?
I feel that he's being picked on,
the reason being that for years everyone's just had the established parties,
and there's no-one been really anywhere else to attack those people.
Suddenly, Nigel's turned up, made Reform,
and he's talking about the things that are worrying people the most.
And of course, they don't like it, so they're sort of picked on him.
And if it turns out that he has done wrong, then that's fine.
But until that moment arrives, then they should just leave him alone, get on with it.
I mean, I think he did some bad things.
So yeah, I think taking £5 million and not declaring it is probably not ideal.
Yeah, I think it's pretty morally wrong.
He probably should state it.
But yeah, I don't think it's going to make much of a difference.
I mean, I think it's a bit pointless, what he's doing.
So yeah, I think he's just making a point.
Clacton is the town that sent Nigel Farage to Parliament for the first time in 2024.
Farage is betting that his constituents will, once again,
vote for him in the by-election to help clear his name.
But opposition parties have called it a stunt and say they won't put up a candidate,
raising the question of just how contested this contest will really be.
I think they're making it into a stunt themselves by not allowing him
any opposition apart from bin face.
We were hoping that Nigel would, you know,
put the best points of Clacton forward as well,
which I think he kind of has.
He's put us more on the map.
