The narrator documents a day of farm chores, focusing on the health of a sick baby goat and the physically demanding process of cleaning out the goat barn stalls during a heatwave.
Good morning guys, welcome to today's video.
I'm headed down to the barn.
If you don't know, yesterday when I went down I noticed one of our baby goats seemed super
bloated.
I'm thinking she maybe ate a little bit too much.
We treated her twice yesterday.
We kept an eye on her, we kept her away from the food and even last night at dinner time
we did not feed her, much to the dismay of her roommates who also did not get food.
We're going to go down and check on her now.
I tend to overdo it with my goats when they seem off because goats have a reputation for
dying like that.
Like one day they're just sitting there acting completely normal and poof, they're dead the
next day.
So if I see any kind of change in behavior, how they look, if I see anything I always
try and treat it.
But welcome to today, day two of me getting this barn cleaned out.
Usually over the winter our stalls get filled with hay and straw that our goats use as bedding
and in May I cleaned it all out and this May we were still in winter.
In fact, we were still kind of in winter until June.
In fact, we're kind of only half, half summer now.
So I'm a little bit late but it's getting done.
Alright, a moth flew into me.
Let's go check on this girl.
We got these girls, oh my gosh.
I thought she was dead.
I was freaking out.
She was there and she was laying with her head completely flat on the ground and her
eyes open and I'm like, what the heck?
Is she dead?
She's not dead.
I literally was freaking out and the reason I was so confident coming down here is because
I watched her on the camera the whole night.
I watched her all night and I knew she was fine and then when, oh my gosh, I saw her
I thought, oh, I thought she was dead.
I thought she was dead.
I can't even believe that.
That's crazy.
Anyway, I'm going to get to work and let these babies out, let everybody out.
My favorite view, all four little babies, all mama and her babies, her mini-me's.
Yesterday I filled one whole trailer full of bedding, old bedding and Sam took it away
and brought it back for me.
I also forgot that I bought these garlic flakes and it's supposed to be really good for your
goats.
It's like an antibiotic but also it repels bugs from biting them.
I got it for the horses too and you're supposed to give it to them the first three days of
the month.
I forgot so I'm going to try that today.
I don't want to overdo it because grain is expensive and I don't want them to not eat
it but let's see what happens.
Hey, how did you get out?
She jumped the wall.
Oh, yep, okay, well, I guess this is what we're doing now.
Usually, I don't let these big guys out.
Come on, get out there, come on, come on, come on, poshie.
Okay, so talked to our vet through text.
Ellie, stay down.
Talked to the vet through text, was able to troubleshoot.
She has a fever so was able to give her appropriate shots.
She's got, I gave her two shots as per the vet and we're going to see but I think she's
going to come around.
It's 11 a.m.
I've been working really hard.
This is the second trailer load I've filled.
It could maybe hold more, I don't know, but yep, that's what I've done.
I checked the feeders and all the garlic flakes are still in the buckets.
Also, I put fresh water up there.
I contemplated doing it before but it's possible that she's sick from an infection from the
geese because they mess up all the waters.
I have water everywhere.
I have water for the geese, water for the pig, and water for the goats but the geese
don't listen.
They go wherever they want so I'm going to try that and see what happens.
I'm going to try and just like put fresh water up where the geese can't get and I know
they can fly.
I've never seen them fly and they actually, they say that they can't fly.
These ones can't fly until, I don't know, they don't fly much but anyways, so I'm going
to try that.
Put fresh water someplace that, it's just that she's a baby and she doesn't know better
really of what not to drink and what to drink so I'm headed for a drink though myself.
It's scorching, hotter than yesterday but I'm going to get it done.
I'm getting one stall done today.
I wanted to get two but there's no way I can do two.
It takes me about four to five hours to clean one stall.
In the heat I have to take a lot of breaks.
Alright so I have washed a bunch of stuff.
We are still working on cleaning up the barn.
Finn's halter is so clean and fresh now.
Also I washed Storby's boots for Gabby so I'm just going to let them stay out here and
dry.
I'm headed down for round two of cleaning the goat barn.
I got to take my water.
I really wanted to clean, I have two stalls.
I'm working on one.
I'm going to finish it today.
I really wanted to clean both stalls today.
I can't do it.
I physically can't do it.
It's wild.
Like literally five hours is not an exaggeration.
Somehow the boys got locked into the barn.
Oh maybe Sam did it.
Did you lock the boys in there?
We have to lock the boys in the barn and then open the gate between the boy field and the
girl field so that we can get the tractor out and we have to move all the girls back
and then we have to let the boys out several times each time we clean the stall.
All right it should be easy now.
All he has to do is just open that gate.
I feel like it's not full enough.
All the goats are like oh it's so hot out there we need to be in here.
Little sick goat is up and moving around.
Still seems a little slow moving.
Cinderella is the first one through the gate.
Oh it was posh.
It's posh over there.
They are so excited to go to the boys field.
They're like oh my gosh we always wanted to go over there.
They're so funny.
Oh no.
I do not know how I'm getting them back in there.
Posh is the uh oh get get get nope nope go.
Don't go towards the door.
Get.
Oh here they all come.
Isn't that so funny though?
They're going to have to just stay over here until he brings the trailer back for me.
They're peeing everywhere.
The boys are in here.
They must have figured it out.
But remember when the boys were rubbing their scent all over right there?
Well now the girls are smelling it.
That can be enough to bring a girl into heat even.
They're smelling everything.
The thing about Cricket, this goat here, we've never been able to get her pregnant.
And about three months ago I put her with a boy and I never saw them breed and she didn't
seem like she was bred.
But we can't get her to lose weight either.
And also her udder.
So look at the udder.
It's hard to show you.
But do you guys see how her teats are hanging down?
She has like a little sack there.
Oh I guess Cinderella has the same thing actually.
And a true udder won't grow until like about the last month of pregnancy.
So it still makes me question if she's pregnant or not but I'm pretty sure she's not.
If you look at Posh, like there's nothing.
There's no kind of udder.
If you look at Hazel, there's nothing.
But these guys are normal size.
They're not as chubby as her.
I don't know.
I can't tell.
Her udder area looks bigger than ever but she's also chubbier than ever so I don't know.
We could end up with babies in two months but probably not.
Alright now we gotta get these girls back in here.
Let's do it.
This is where we need Sophie.
Go figure.
They won't eat their own grass but they're eating the boys' grass.
Even the geese are here.
Alright so change of plans.
I put a fan on the other side of this wall and we're gonna just let the girls roam until
I finish.
That works for me.
The next time you see this, it'll be full.
Come on back babies.
They want their house back now that they've dirtied the boys.
Come on.
Sophie, I might not need much help.
They're already coming.
They want their shade.
Poor boys.
The geese symposium.
These are the only ones that didn't get the memo.
He literally walked right up to me and stepped on me.
Count them and make sure we have them all.
We don't know how many goats we have.
Looks good.
Looks about right.
Hopefully they're all here.
Okay, these guys are gonna freak out once they determine that the girls were here.
I just locked that gate.
Uh oh.
They're like, we heard them out here, where are they?
Just go lock that gate.
They know.
Now I gotta freshen that water.
There it goes.
I'm not done.
I'm gonna sit down and have a rest.
The thing that keeps me going, and the reason I like doing this, I enjoy it.
Even though I've complained a lot in the past, I actually enjoy the physical labor.
But the thing that keeps me going is that I listen to a book.
I started a whole new book.
I swear, I'm halfway through it.
And it's really good.
So I'm gonna finish this one stall, and I'm gonna do the last stall, this one right here,
the yearling stall, I'm gonna do that next weekend.
Because it's a lot.
Anyway, thank you guys so much for watching.
I'm also gonna have a shower.
I stink so bad.
I smell like, it's awful.
I smell like moldy hay is what I smell like.
But anyway, see you guys tomorrow.
Don't you know that you're beautiful?
Just the way you are.
Just the way you came.
Don't you know that you're beautiful?
