I Stayed at a Ghibli-like Inn on Japan’s Hidden Cat Island 🐱 Aji Island

This time, I visited Aji Island (Ajishima), a quiet hidden cat island near the world-famous Tashirojima in Japan. I stayed at Shiomisou, a charming Ghibli-like island inn where friendly cats often come to visit. With peaceful cats, fresh seafood from a fisherman’s inn, a beautiful sunset, and a mysterious island shrine, this was a gentle and unforgettable cat island journey.

This time, I visited Aji Island (Ajishima), a lesser-known cat island near the world-famous Tashiro Island. Aji Island is not as well known as Tashiro Island, but cats also live here, watched over by the people of the island. I stayed at a charming little inn that felt like something from a Ghibli film.
The inn also cares for the island cats that come to visit the property, and during my stay, they came to see me many times. Some cats loved being around people, some watched me from a little distance, and some quietly relaxed nearby. I spent a peaceful time with the cats in the garden, enjoyed fresh seafood prepared by the fisher couple who run the inn, and tasted vegetables grown by the landlady, as well as wild mountain vegetables from the island.
In the evening, I also saw a beautiful sunset over Aji Island.
On the way back, I visited Ogane Shrine, which is said to be connected to Kinkasan Koganeyama Shrine. Kinkasan is known for the saying that if you visit three years in a row, you will never have trouble with money. There is also a local story that visiting Ogane Shrine once may bring the same blessing.
Cats, a quiet island inn, fresh seafood, a beautiful sunset, and a slightly mysterious shrine. Please enjoy this journey too.
