The Flying Fish
Jul 5, 2026 #Seaanimals #Nature
Flying fish, belonging to the family Exocoetidae, are famous for their incredible ability to glide above the ocean’s surface. Using their greatly enlarged pectoral fins like wings, they launch themselves out of the water at high speed to escape predators such as tuna and dolphins. Rather than true flight, they perform controlled glides that can last several seconds and cover distances of over 200 meters. Found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide, flying fish are fast swimmers that feed on plankton and small marine organisms. Their unique adaptation makes them one of the most spectacular sights in the open ocean.
