How to spend the perfect weekend in Montpellier, Pont du Gard & Nîmes 🇫🇷

In this travel guide we'll discover the best of one of the sunniest cities in France, Montpellier. Traditionally a student city boasting attractions like the oldest botanical garden in France and a fortified cathedral, this is a destination which is rapidly changing. We'll begin our time by exploring some local architecture (the main square, a triumphal arch, the covered market) before visiting a green space teeming with wildlife and meeting a local musician. We'll then wander through the historic heart of the city where we'll find several hidden gems.

Montpellier is also a great base from which to explore many of the highlights that the South of France is known for and so the next day we'll head to the incredible Pont du Gard, one of the greatest feats of engineering from the Roman world. We'll then continue to discover more ancient Roman architecture by heading to Nîmes, the 'greatest Roman city outside of Italy'. There we'll visit Roman ruins and explore the old town. Finally we'll head to the Camargue, where we'll spot hundreds of wild flamingoes!
