The UK market consumes around 60,000 tonnes of blueberries annually, with approximately 6,000 tonnes grown locally. Hall Hunter alone produces around 2,000 tonnes of blueberries in 2024. Traditionally, all blueberries at Hall Hunter have been hand-picked, and this practice will largely continue. However, change is on the horizon with the introduction of the Harvy 500 mechanical blueberry picker from Fine Field.

The Harvy 500 is the only machine of its kind in the UK, capable of picking up to 500 kg of blueberries per hour. Once harvested, the berries are transported to the packing area where another new autonomous machine comes into play. The Elifab, an AI-driven grading and packing machine, swiftly sorts the blueberries, removing any unripe or damaged ones and fruit that doesn't meet Hall Hunter's premium standards.
