Exploring Fogo Island, Newfoundland – Colourful Towns, Scenic Trails, Famous Inn & the Edge (corner;) of the Earth | RVing Ep. 7 On this episode of our RVing to Newfoundland & Labrador series, we hop a ferry to the one-of-a-kind Fogo Island — a remote, windswept destination that feels like it’s perched at the edge of the world. We spend our time exploring Fogo Island’s picturesque fishing communities — Fogo, Barr’d Islands, Joe Batt’s Arm, and Tilting — each with its own distinct character and charm. Along the way, we stop by the striking (and world-renowned) Fogo Island Inn, an architectural landmark that beautifully blends modern design and luxury with traditional outport life. Hiking Joe Batt’s Point Trail, we reach the Great Auk statue, a tribute to the extinct seabird once native to the area, and take in sweeping coastal views that seem to stretch forever. Then it’s on to the island’s most famous landmark — Brimstone Head, one of the legendary “four corners of the flat earth” (at least according to the Flat Earth Society!). For fellow travellers and RVers, we also share a look at the Brimstone Head RV Park — the island’s only campground — and enjoy a great meal at the Bang Belly Bistro, a cozy local favourite. Fogo Island truly captured our hearts with its rugged beauty, warm community spirit, and sense of remoteness that’s hard to find anywhere else. We can’t wait to return one day.
