AI GeneratedViktor Hovland won the 75th Travelers Championship after a dramatic sudden-death playoff against world number one Scottie Scheffler. Despite a tense battle on the 18th hole, Hovland secured the victory with a clutch putt, marking a special moment as his mother witnessed his win in person for the first time.
This looked like what we saw last night, right up the middle.
Hovland's had no problem finding the fairway.
Scottie hitting a fade and he loves it.
Side by side at 18.
Sudden death to decide the 75th edition of the Travelers Championship.
Clean strike. Good line.
What a shot. Beautiful shot. Judged it perfectly.
Controlled his spin. Lands it just past the hole.
Will be a quick buck though.
A lot of balls.
Ripping back at this 18 after the rain came through yesterday.
Scheffler judged this just about perfectly.
Because he hit so many short items on the practice range anticipating this iron shot.
This is also all over it.
Exactly what you want to see.
Two heavyweight guys battling it out head to head.
Hitting beautiful shots one after another.
What an iron shot by both these players.
Down hard at that one.
Saw how much this ball spun back last night.
A smile he said.
Just crept in there on the right side.
And that puts more pressure on Scheffler who made all those par savers yesterday.
Because I thought he missed it low, didn't he?
His reaction, his body language.
He used the full knee flex there to try to get it to go in.
Look how good that ball rolled down to the hole.
Fresh greens this morning.
This is it.
Hovland has won the Travelers.
And this is the first time that Victor's mother, Galinda, has seen him win in person.
So an abrupt conclusion when it looked like Scheffler was going to nail another must-have putt.
Not this time.
And Hovland has the Travelers title.
Another look at this putt.
He made a ton from longer distance yesterday that mattered this one.
Victor, well, it took a rain delay and just one extra hole of golf.
But what did it take this morning to come out here with that focus and make the putt that you just did?
Yeah, it's been stressful.
But, yeah, it's unbelievable.
Especially after Scottie hits it so close there.
Yeah, I knew I had to bring in my best to have a chance to beat him.
And he certainly brought it out of me and I couldn't be happier.
You've said that you wanted to be kinder to yourself in your golf game.
What were the moments this week when you had to be kind to yourself?
Yeah, I think that's a long ways from there.
But, yeah, I mean, obviously I know how good I can get.
And I keep pushing myself and I keep wanting to get better.
And then when I fall short, it really pisses me off.
But I really did a good job of, you know, I didn't get off to a great start on Thursday.
And I just kind of didn't let it bother me as much.
And obviously it helps when you got people like this cheering you on as well.
So, yeah, it was a blast.
Norway came out in full force.
And also your mom, Galina, is here.
She's seeing you win for the very first time.
What does that mean to you?
Yeah, I thought about that earlier in the week.
My dad still hasn't watched me win, but at least I'm glad my mom got to be here.
And we get to share this moment together.
And, yeah, couldn't be happier.
Well, you get to celebrate together.
Congratulations, Victor.
Yeah, thanks, Kyra.
So we go over to Smiley.
Thanks, Kyra.
Hey, Scotty.
It was quite the duel with you and Victor over the last couple days.
And I know we all know what your goals were coming into today.
How would you assess how you played and just the ultimate result?
I mean, I played solid over the course of four days.
You know, there's obviously some shots that I'd like back.
But, overall, it was a good, solid week.
You know, obviously a little bit disappointed with the finish.
But, overall, I feel like my game's in a good spot.
And what did you see in that putt on the last hole?
Was it a similar line to what you had last night?
Did you just break a little bit less today?
I mean, I hit it on my line.
I think it was just a little bit firm.
You know, it was one of those putts you kind of had to make.
And, yeah, just hit it a little firm.
So that's a bit disappointing with, you know,
especially with the putts I made last night to kind of stay in the tournament.
But, overall, definitely some good things to come from this week.
You know, I struck the ball really nicely.
And, you know, it's just one of those weeks where I was close,
but just wasn't quite good enough.
A little bit of an up-and-down journey like it was yesterday
in the early portion of the final round.
But he got it done when it mattered most.
That just slips in the right side.
And Conlin has a playoff win over world number one.
There it is, just getting in on that right side.
Yeah, he was watching it intently, thinking it might have leaked back to the right.
Right edge reached out and caught it for him.
Lifted in there, and what a victory for Victor Holland
when he looked like the wheels were falling off for him
early in the fourth round on Sunday.
