Located in Esposende on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, this 60sqm/645sqft family home has been redesigned by interior designer Ângela Castro for herself, her partner Pedro, their young son Nico, and dog Gorila. The reconfigured floor plan transformed a once enclosed layout into a bright open-plan space designed around connection, flexibility and everyday family life. At the heart of the home is a movable kitchen island on castors that can shift between configurations, allowing the apartment to adapt from daily routines to entertaining. Clever storage is integrated throughout, from a ceiling-mounted shelf and pantry “dry fridge” to custom entry joinery and under-bed storage. A former laundry and pantry have been combined to create a light-filled home office that also doubles as a guest room, with the bedroom gaining a new ensuite and additional storage.
