The real paradise in China can only be accessed via a cliffside trail — Wuli Village
A Real Paradise — Wuli Village, Nujiang.
Nestled in the deep gorges upstream of the Nujiang River in southwestern China lies a nearly untouched Nuzu ethnic village. Locals call it “Ongli” — “a place like a bird’s nest.”
There are no roads leading here. The only way to reach it is a 1.5-kilometer-long, old donkey trail carved into the sheer cliff face.
The village clings to the slopes above the Nujiang River. The tiered, stone-roofed wooden houses — living quarters on top, livestock pens below — are ancient and rustic.
Mist drifts through the valley, and the river flows at its base. Looking across to the opposite bank, it seems to float beyond reality, a wonder forgotten by time.
