Russia’s Federal Security Service, in coordination with the Interior Ministry and Rosgvardiya, says it has dismantled a sprawling illegal arms network in a sweeping operation across 53 regions during April–May 2026. According to official claims, authorities detained 128 individuals, shut down 45 underground workshops, and seized 301 firearms, including machine guns and grenade launchers, along with 788 grenades, over 111 kilograms of explosives, and more than 189,000 rounds of ammunition. The FSB states the network was involved in trafficking weapons and converting civilian firearms into combat-capable systems. Moscow is projecting the operation as a decisive internal security success, underscoring firm control over illicit weapons activity amid ongoing external pressures.
