To the teller down at the bank
You're just an important encounter
Just another fare
For you to shop at the mall
While you drink
Now you don't feel important
Honey, all I gotta say is to the world
That you may be just another girl
Restaurant, you're just another tip
Tip a guy at the ice cream shop
You're just another dip
You can't get reservations
If you don't have the clout
Or you didn't get an invitation
Somebody left you out
That's alright
That's okay
You don't feel important
Honey, all I gotta say is to the world
That you may be just another girl
And to me
Look into my eyes
Tell me, can't you see
You're everything to me
You may be just another girl
Tonight, we've got one of country's premier guitar slingers
One of country's largest and deepest voices
And one of its biggest voices
That's right, as we just saw
Brad Paisley is here and he'll be right back
Coming up is baritone powerhouse Trace Adkins
A little later, the amazing Lauren Alaina
Will step into the circle
And then Brad Paisley returns for Last Call
Now, among us musicians
It is a commonly held truth
That an accomplished player brings a unique personality
To every instrument he or she plays
And that fella out there is a masterclass example of that
His style involves jaw-dropping technique, precision
And if you listen closely
A little bit of his humor is in there, too
Once again, here is Opry member Brad Paisley, everybody
Welcome to the show that made country music what it is
Thank you so much for coming to our town
Good to see all of you
Every time you take a sip
In this smoky atmosphere
Press that bottle to your lips
And I wish I was your beer
In the small air of your back
Your jeans are playing peek-a-boo
I'd like to see the other half
Little Jimmy Dickinstown
I'd like to meet you when I get this far
Drive out to the country
Find a place to park
I'd like to see you
Out at the moon
I'd like to kiss you
Way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you
Through a field of wildflowers
I'd like to check you for ticks
Lots of places that are hard to reach
I'd like to see you
Out in that Tennessee moonlight
I'd like to kiss you
Way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you
Through a field of wildflowers
I'd like to check you for ticks
I'd like to check you
Brad Paisley with ticks
That is such a fun song
That song right there has all of the elements
that I want to hear from a Brad Paisley song
It's got so much personality
It's got his humor in there
It's got his amazing musicality
with all that chicken picking
and his playing
It's so good
Well hello to all of my live streamers
Thank you guys for joining us
This is another amazing Opry Live
I'm so excited about tonight's show
because we haven't seen Brad here
in a long time
Almost every time that I see Brad play
in any capacity now
I immediately am taken back to COVID
when it was one of my first times
getting to hang out with you guys live
It was just Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood
up on the stage
and I was down front of the stage
because we had no audience
It's just such a significant time
that we all went through together
Thankfully we are doing these shows live
and in person again
with everybody surrounding us
It's so great
But we also have Trace Adkins here
who we love having on the Opry
and Lauren Alaina who we also love
She's always such a bright ray of sunshine
So let's talk about Tix right now
Clearly a Brad Paisley idea
Right?
Like you know that he's the one
that wanted to write this song
He wrote it with Kelly Loveless
and Tim Owens
and Brad says about the song
Working out here on my farm
I literally have to check for Tix
every time I come in from the woods
or the fields
And it occurred to me one day
that if a young guy
who lives in the country
were to take a girl into the woods
for any reason
it would totally cross his mind
that she's going to have to check for Tix
when they come back out
So it seems that an enterprising guy
would at least consider
that he could offer to check for her
I love the way that he said that
That seems like a very PC way
of saying that
So okay
They have this great idea
to write a song
about checking a girl for Tix
Well if you're going to do that
how do you approach that as songwriters?
Now they could have gone
really leaning into the comedy side of it
But instead
they decided that they wanted it to be
a genuine study of country courting
Well mission accomplished boys
I love it so much
But it's funny
when they finished the song
they did the demo
Brad wanted to play it
for the head of his label
Joe Galani
And he plays it for them
and he says
Listen
You're either going to think
that we're brilliant
or that we're absolute idiots
And he says that
he played it for him
and Joe just jumped up
after the song was done
And he goes
Brad
You are brilliant
You found a completely new
and very relatable
country love song
How great is that?
He's not wrong about that either
I mean I've never heard
anybody write a song
about checking for Tix before
Especially when it is a love song
It's actually a really sweet song
Alright
I gotta get over to stage right
Y'all don't move
Check yourself for Tix
Alright
Welcome back to Opry Live
I'm Natalie Stovall
Here's a question I get asked a lot
What do I love most
about country music?
Well honestly
there are a lot of reasons
I love it
But right now
I love it because of artists
like that guy
standing right out there
There is not one fiber
in his being
that isn't pure country
And by that I mean
he doesn't just sing songs
he delivers them
Whether the song is
sentimental, patriotic
or maybe even a little rowdy
he is the actual person
delivering the message
It's like he's personally
sharing with us
something that's important to him
And when you think about it
isn't that what good friends do?
To me that's one thing
country music is all about
which is why I love it
and also why I love this guy
Here is Opry member
Trace Adkins
She was staring out the window
Of their SUV
Complaining saying
I can't wait to turn 18
She said I'll make my own money
And I'll make my own rules
Mama put the car in park
Out there in front of school
She kissed her head
And said I was just like you
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
Before she knows it
She's a brand new bride
In her one bedroom apartment
And her daddy stops by
He tells her it's a nice place
She says it'll do for now
Starts talking about babies
And buying a house
Daddy shakes his head
And says baby just slow down
Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it
But you're gonna miss this
Five years later there's a plumber
Working on a water heater
Dogs barking, phones ringing
One kid's crying, one kid's screaming
And she keeps apologizing
But he says they don't bother me
I've got two babies of my own
One's 36, one's 33
It's hard to believe
But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
Yeah, you're gonna miss this
I miss little Jimmy Dickens
I loved little Jimmy
He was the only man that I knew
That you could see his feet
On his driver's license picture
He was great
I've done a couple of number ones
I'll do another number one and go to the house
She grew up in the city
In a little subdivision
Her daddy wore a tie
Mama never fried a chicken
Ballet, straight A's
Most likely to succeed
They raised her up
They'll settle down
With a doctor or a lawyer
Mrs. Falls for some camouflage
Bridges and a southern boy
You can raise her up
And just cannot avoid
Ladies Love Country
It's that country boy thing they like
Thank you so much
Trace Adkins with Ladies Love Country Boys
I feel like we're on a theme right now
That's another really fun song
That shows off the personality side
Of Trace right there
But you know, he also showed us
A very vulnerable side of him
When he sang You're Gonna Miss This
And I'm so blown away
By the story of how
You're Gonna Miss This
Became a single for him
Because it is such a hugely pivotal song
In his career
And it almost wasn't a single
So that song was written by
Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller
Two incredible songwriters
That we've talked about many times
On Opry Live
And it was written for his album
American Man Greatest Hits Vol. 2
That was his eighth album
So, okay, Ashley was
He had a repairman come to the house
He had a plumber come over
Because something happened
And so his kids were two and four
At the time
They're running all around
Causing all this chaos
Playfully stealing tools
From the plumber
And he's mortified
And he's like I'm so sorry man
And the plumber was like
Dude, it's fine
I got two babies of my own
One's 23, one's 36
Someday you're gonna miss this
And that hit Ashley
And so later on that day
He had a write with Lee Thomas Miller
He told him about it
And they were like yes
We are definitely writing that song today
So they write the song
Song's amazing
Now, around the same time
I don't know exactly when this happened
But around the same time
Lee Thomas Miller
Writes another incredible song
That we all know and love
Called In Color
He wrote that with
Jamie Johnson and James Otto
And both of these songs
Kind of enter Trace's orbit
Around the same time
He cuts both of those songs
For this eighth album
In the first session
And right after the session
Everybody, including Trace
Thinks that In Color
Is gonna be his next
Career defining song
Like it's gonna define
The next chapter of his career
And it's got a whole buzz in town
The session players
Are all talking about it
But right after that session
Not long after
Jamie Johnson
Separately happens to get signed
To a record deal
And his label's like
You wrote In Color?
Oh, that's your song
Radio's gonna love it
We have to put that out on you
Well, they were on separate labels
Trace is on one
Jamie's on another
But it's the same umbrella label
It was the same major label
So Jamie's label
The people were just like
No, that's your song
And they basically pulled it off
Of Trace's album
Released it for Jamie
And so that is how
You're gonna miss this
Became his single
Because eventually
Since he didn't have In Color
Which he didn't have time
To overthink
Because he was going to be
On the Celebrity Apprentice
They ended up putting out
You're gonna miss this
And that song
Ended up winning
Song of the Year
For Trace Adkins
In Color ended up winning
Song of the Year honors
For Jamie Johnson
It all worked out
Exactly as it was supposed to
Alright, I gotta get over
To stage right
Y'all don't move
Welcome back to Opry Live
I'm Natalie Stovall
When this next artist
Was inducted as an Opry member
In 2022
She said, quote
I promise to do everything possible
To represent country music
And the Opry family
As best I can
Unquote
Well, truthfully
She's pretty much been doing that
Ever since she first
Stepped onto a stage
And if anything
Doubling down on it
Since her Opry induction
Just browse through her music
And you'll see some important
Recurring themes
Themes promoting self confidence
Cautionary themes
About avoiding mistakes
And messages encouraging
The pursuit of dreams
She uses her big voice
To inspire everyone
To do one thing
To live a life
Full of compassion and positivity
So I'd say
She's kept her promise
Here is the one and only
Lauren Alaina
How we doing
At the Grand Ole Opry tonight?
You say what if I hurt you
What if I leave you
What if I find somebody else
And I don't need you
What if this goes out
What if I mess you up
You say what if I break your heart
In two then what
Will I hear you boy
I'll feel you boy
But not so fast
Will you make mine up
I gotta ask
What if I was made for you
You were made for me
What if this isn't
What if it's meant to be
What if I ain't one of them fools
Just playing some games
What if I just pulled you close
What if I leaned in
And the stars light up
And it's our last first kiss
What if one of these days
Maybe I'll go and change my name
What if I thump all these audience away
How y'all doing out there tonight?
What if the sky falls
Or the sun stops burning
We can worry about things
But if still the world stops turning
Or I could kiss you
What if you think
Well we ain't ever gonna know
Unless we try it
What if I was made for you
What if it's meant to be
What if I ain't playing some games
Close
What if I leaned in
And the stars light up
And it's our last first kiss
What if one of these days
Maybe I'll go and change my name
What if I hurt you
What if I leave you
What if I find somebody else
And I don't need you
Damn
What if I was made for you
You were made for me
What if it's meant to be
Well some games
First kiss
What if one of these days
Maybe I'll go
I got second place on American Idol
When I was 16 years old
If you voted for me
You changed my life
But um
I really struggled for a long time
People commented on my
My hair and my accent
And my weight
I mean
People commenting on a 16 year old's body
Is a sickness
But
I ended up going to therapy
Thank God
And um
Really getting some help
And um
I'm in recovery
From my eating disorder
For a long time now
And um
Thank you
But um
I celebrate this
My journey of learning to love myself
With this song
And it was my first
Number one song on country radio
So those people on Facebook can kiss it
Why do you keep on staring
That mirror mirror
It ain't fair at all
No no no
Dress sizes can't define
Don't let the world decide
What's beautiful
No
You won't make yourself a name
If you follow the rules
History gets made
When you're acting a fool
So don't hold it back
And just want it
Show what you got
And just own it
Nobody can tell you apart
If you trust your rebel heart
Fighting to battle
Don't be afraid
Take the road less traveled
Wear out your boots
And kick up the gravel
Don't be afraid
Take the road less traveled
Oh oh oh
Less traveled
Don't follow anyone
I'll march to the rhythm
Of your favorite drum
Mmm
Criticize the crazy ones
Oh oh
You won't make yourself a name
If you follow the rules
History gets made
When you're acting a fool
So don't hold it back
Show what you got
And just own it
Nobody can tell you apart
If you trust your rebel heart
Fighting to battle
Don't be afraid
Take the road less traveled
Wear out your boots
And kick up the gravel
Don't be afraid
I need a couple favors from you
I'm gonna sing this to you
And I want you to sing it back to me
As loud as you can
It's very easy
You can handle it
I promise
I believe in you
And it goes like this
Oh oh oh
Take the road less traveled
On your turn
Oh oh
Ladies, elbow your husband hard
Oh oh oh
Take the road
I'm watching you, sir
Uh
It got louder, didn't it?
Take the road less traveled
All right, now, one more favor
This is my favorite part of every show every night
I want you to pull out your phone
And turn your flashlight on
And put your hands up in the air
And wave on side to side
How y'all doing up in the balcony tonight?
Put your hands up
Show me that you're one of a kind
Who's happy to be at the Grand Ole Opry tonight?
Put your hands up
Let me hear you boys tonight
If you trust your rebel heart
And it's a battle, don't be afraid
Take the road less traveled
If you trust your rebel heart
And it's a battle, don't be afraid
Take the road less traveled
Let me hear you
Oh oh oh
Take the road
Last one, give me all you got
Oh
Take the road less traveled
Lauren Alaina with Road Less Traveled
It never gets old hearing her sing that song
And especially the way that she gets the crowd involved
With the call and response
And with the lights
It looks like stars are all in the Opry House
It's so beautiful
And I love this song because
It was her very first number one
It was such a big song for her
And I feel like this song
As she has matured and has gone on her journey
It's only gotten more important
And especially now that she has her baby girl
And it's got me thinking all kinds of thoughts myself these days
So it's really fun
I know that we've talked about this story before
But it has been a long time
And I even needed a refresher on it
So I want to share it again
Because it's such an impactful thing to write about
And you don't hear about it a lot
So she wrote this song
With Jessie Frazier and Meghan Trainor
And she wrote this all the way back in 2013
Which is crazy because she had won
Or she was runner up
I always think she won
But she and Scottie McCreary
They were on American Idol in 2011
So this is just two years after that
But she was 16 when she was on American Idol
So she's still such a young woman at this point
So it's 2013
And for whatever reason in the writer's room
They're talking about the Robert Frost poem
The Road Not Taken
And talking about the fork in the road
And the road less traveled
And so they know generally what the song is about
But they don't know the details and the specifics
And so they finish the chorus
And they're like, okay
We know what this is about
This is going to be about body image issues
And in a way, that's not surprising
I mean, she's writing with Meghan Trainor
Which Meghan Trainor, her first massive hit
Was all about celebrating a woman's curves
And Meghan famously had to deal with a lot of bullying
And a lot of negative comments about her body
And then so did Lauren
And it was Lauren's first taste of it
Just those first couple of years
After coming off of Idol
And being a young woman
Having to deal with all those negative comments
About her body
And so this was a really personal story for her
But what she wasn't telling anyone
Not just the writers
But her label, her family, friends
Nobody knew that she was struggling
With an eating disorder
And she says, I didn't talk about it
When we were writing this song
Because I was still really struggling with the disorder
At that time, I really needed to believe
What I was writing
It took me a while to get there
I had to listen to this song a lot
And I had to write a million more songs
With this theme to grow into believing it
But then she says
That after she finally did share her struggles
With her label
And with her friends and family
That this song specifically
Meant so much more to them
And it still means even more to her
Every single day
Such a beautiful and impactful story
Alright, well, we've got more Lauren Alaina
Coming at us right now
So I'm going to turn it back over to the stage
We lost one of our family members
Here at the Grand Ole Opry
Don Schlitz just passed away a few days ago
And my daddy would play guitar
And the first time I ever remember
Singing a song with him
Was this song
It feels a little different tonight
I lost my daddy a couple years ago
And this song has always made me feel close to him
And I told Don that story
He said it made him really proud that he wrote it
And that he could do that for us
And he has so many incredible songs that he wrote
The country music world
Would never have been what it was
Without Don Schlitz
I will eternally be grateful for this next song
So y'all sing it with me if you know it
It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word
You can light up the dark
Try as I may, I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Saying you'll catch me
If ever I fall
You say this
When you say nothing at all
I had to go over there for emotional support
But I'm back
Day long I can't hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near
You drown out the cry
Oh Mr. Webster could never define
What's being said between your heart and mine
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Saying you'll catch me
If ever I fall
You say this
When you say nothing at all
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand
Saying you'll catch me
If ever I fall
You say this
When you say nothing at all
He's been such a massive, massive presence back here in the hallways and on stage.
We've seen him on Opry live.
He was just such a beautiful and big personality.
He was so soft spoken, but he was one of those guys that always had a kind word for you.
He always had time to stop in the hallway and talk to you and share a story with you.
And man, did he have the stories.
And so it's just, it's really a loss here at the Opry without him.
And it just felt so sudden.
I mean, I think he was supposed to perform just a couple of nights after his death happened.
So we were all thinking we were going to get to see him in a few days.
And it's so beautiful that Lauren chose to sing when you say nothing at all.
I mean, Don has written so many incredible hits for artists.
He wrote Forever and Ever Amen by Randy Travis.
The Gambler, Kenny Rogers, which we've seen him do on Opry live.
Good As I Was, Lori Morgan.
He Thinks He'll Keep Her, I Feel Lucky, I'll Take My Chances, Mary Chapin Carpenter.
I mean, I could go on and on and on about his hits.
But something that's so cool about Don, he was the only non-artist songwriter that was ever inducted as an Opry member.
Which is just such a cool thing.
What an honor to have that title.
And he made his Opry debut nearly 10 years ago in October of 2017.
Just two months before his 65th birthday.
So his Opry debut wasn't until 10 years ago, which is crazy to me.
It just feels like he's been a permanent fixture here forever.
But just 10 years ago and he made such an impact here.
And it's crazy too because only five years after that is when Vince Gill inducted Don as an Opry member.
August 13th of 2022, just 16 days before his 70th birthday.
So it is wild that he had such a short time here.
But I think it speaks to his legacy of what an impact he made on everyone.
And I just want to share this quote with you guys.
I was listing some of the songs and some of the artists that he wrote for.
Just massive songs.
But he says, I don't ever think of myself as having a legacy.
Instead, I think about getting to share Kenny Rogers' legacy, Keith Whitley's legacy, Randy Travis's legacy, etc.
And that right there shows you what a beautiful and humble soul he was.
And we will forever and ever, amen, miss you, Mr. Don Schlitz.
But we want you to know that we will continue to honor your memory through all of your incredible music here at the Opry.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
And thank you guys for joining us tonight.
I got to get over to stage right one more time.
Y'all don't go anywhere.
I'll see you over there.
We are back.
Big thanks to Brad Paisley, Trace Adkins, and Lauren Alaina for an amazing show.
And by the way, they're all under one roof and right here at the Opry.
So why not join us next time?
Hit that QR code and come help us continue the Opry's 100th celebration right here in Nashville.
Alright, to take us out the door, here once again is Brad Paisley.
She's a yellow pair of running shoes
A holy pair of jeans
She looks great in cheap sunglasses
She looks great in anything
She's I want a piece of chocolate
Take me to a movie
She's I can't find a thing to wear
Now and then she's moved
She's a Saturn with a sunroof
With her brown hair a blow
A soft place to land
And a good feeling no
She's a warm conversation
That I wouldn't miss for nothing
A fighter when she's mad
And she's a lover when she's loving
And she's everything I need
Oh, she's everything to me
She's a Saturday out on the town
And church girl on Sunday
She's a cross around her neck
And a cuss word cause it's Monday
She's a bubble bath and candles
Baby come and kiss me
She's a one glass of wine
And she's feeling kind of tipsy
The giver I wish I could be
Stealer of the covers
She's a picture in my wallet
My unborn children's mother
She's the hand that I'm holding
When I'm on my knees and praying
The answer to my prayer
And she's the song I play
And she's everything I want
She's everything
She's the voice I love to hear
And someday when I'm 90
She's that wooden rocking chair
I want rocking right beside me
Every day that passes
I only love her more
And she's the one
That I'd lay down my own life for
And she's everything I want
Everything I need
She's everything
guitar solo
Everything I ever wanted
Everything I need
Right behind me is a J-200
that was way too big
for the guy that played it.
He was just as proud
of the Bassboat Sparkle case
next to it, I think.
I guard that guitar with my life,
but there's nothing like
seeing it out here
on this stage again.
I miss this little guy so much.
The band and I
are going to do this,
and he's going to
be up there looking down
thinking we should
have practiced it.
Abbie used to tend my hide
out behind the barn
He taught me to be dignified
out behind the barn
When he took that strap to me
He sure did hurt my dignity
Oh, down across his knee
Out behind the barn
I got my education
Out behind the barn
In a foolin' nursery
Passed each examination
Out behind the barn
But it almost made a wreck
out of me
Play the fiddle, boy!
Well, I smoked my first cigarette
Out behind the barn
And that's the day
I won't forget
Out behind the barn
It made me sick
You should have seen how that
Tobacco turned me green
I almost died from nicotine
Out behind the barn
I got my education
Out behind the barn
In a foolin' nursery
Passed each examination
Out behind the barn
And it almost made a wreck
out of me
Pick one, Zach!
I met a pretty girl one day
Out behind the barn
She wanted me to stay and play
Out behind the barn
And that's a game I won't forget
Well, we used to pit and pet
I still play the same game yet
Out behind the barn
I got my education
Out behind the barn
Now I ain't a foolin' nursery
Passed each examination
Out behind the barn
And it almost made a wreck
out of me
On the guitar back here,
we have one of my guitar heroes.
He flew here all the way from Spain.
We're gonna let him play a solo
for you on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
Say hi, Nacho Baños!
guitar solo
2, 1, 2, 3!
guitar solo
I wish I could go again
Out behind the barn
And do some things that I did then
Out behind the barn
Now you think it ain't no fun
To be a poor old farmer's son
But you don't know all the things I've done
Out behind the barn
I got my education
Out behind the barn
I ain't a foolin' nursery
Passed each examination
Out behind the barn
And it almost made a wreck
out of me
And it almost made a wreck
out of me
And the song I'm gonna do you now
would not have been as big a hit
if I wasn't fishin' with this little guy
in the video for it.
Well, I love her
But I love to fish
Spend all day out on this lake
And hell is all I catch
But today she met me at the door
Said I would have to choose
And if I hit that fishin' hole today
She'd be packin' all her things
And she'd
Be gone by noon
Well, I'm gonna miss her
On this lake shore
And I'm sittin' in the sun
I'm sure it'll hit me
Walk through that door tonight
I'm gonna miss her
Oh, lookie there
I've got a fight
All right, let's go fishin' after this
Y'all want to?
There's a chance
That if I hurry
I could beg her to stay
The water's right
And the weather's perfect
No tellin' what I might
Catch today
So I'm gonna miss her
When I get home
But right now I'm on
I'm sittin' in the sun
I'm sure it'll hit me
Walk through that door tonight
I'm gonna miss her
Oh, lookie there
I'm gonna miss her
Oh, lookie there
I've got a bite
