AI GeneratedThe speaker discusses the current state of the House of Representatives campaign, emphasizing the goal of reclaiming control by winning Republican-held seats. The conversation touches upon internal Democratic tensions regarding progressive endorsements, the speaker's positive relationship with the mayor despite disagreements, and the impact of Adriano Espaillat's departure from Congress.
I've talked to several of the candidates, but not all of them up until this point.
And do you think that this is a DSA versus establishment type of, like how do you view,
given what's happened since last night, how do you view this campaign going forward?
I think the goal is to win as many seats currently held by Republicans as possible
and take back control of the House of Representatives.
On top of making enemies on Capitol Hill by endorsing against incumbents right now?
Listen, the mayor and I agreed to strongly disagree about some of his endorsements.
And he's got work to do in terms of the conversations that he's going to
have with members of Congress moving forward.
What's your relationship with the mayor as it stands?
It's a very good one. We speak regularly.
You think Democratic voters want Democrats in Congress to be more progressive?
I think you've got to look at the totality of all 215 members of the House Democratic Caucus,
and that answer speaks for itself.
How big of a loss is Adriano Espaillat leaving Congress?
He was the chair of the CHE first on down.
Adriano Espaillat has been a tremendous public servant who will be missed.
I had the opportunity to talk to him last night.
He was very gracious with the mayor of the city of New York.
And he's made that publicly and explicitly clear to America, not once but twice,
in the Oval Office.
My condolences are extended to Republicans in the House who spent millions of dollars
trying to pick Mike Lawler's opponent.
And they failed.
And Mike Lawler is going to be defeated in November.
Thank you, everyone.
