Step into the heart of the Gaoligong Mountains in Yunnan, China, and experience the rhythmic soul of the Jingpo people. "Munao Zongge: The Eternal Hearth" (目瑙纵歌·火塘) is more than just a song; it is a living bridge between the ancient past and the vibrant present.
What is Munao Zongge?
Known as the "Dance of the Heavens," Munao Zongge is an Intangible Cultural Heritage of China. It is a massive, synchronized communal dance where thousands of people follow the lead of the "Nau Shawng" (lead dancers), tracing the migration paths of their ancestors.
In this video, you will witness:
✨ The Silvery Shimmer: Watch the traditional Jingpo women’s robes, adorned with hundreds of silver studs that flash like stars and chime with every step.
🏠 The Sacred Hearth (Huotang): For the Jingpo, the fire in the bamboo stilt-house is the "eternal seed" of the family, never allowed to go out, symbolizing the warmth of Mother and the legacy of the tribe.
🏔️ The Ancestral Path: The lyrics tell a story of migration across the Ancient Tea Horse Road, from the misty peaks of the Gaoligong Mountains to the waters of the Nanwan River and the cultural gathering hub of Myitkyina.
The Music:
Combining ancient chants with modern ethnic arrangements, the song captures the essence of "Spirit roaring, yet heart serene." From the deep strike of the Mangluo gong to the sweet aroma of bamboo-tube rice wine, every note is an invitation to the world to join the dance.
🎶 Lyrics Highlight:
"No matter how many slopes we cross, we eventually turn toward the firelight."
"People grow old, but the mountains never age."
