This Cambridge Zoo is now the focus of a major police investigation,
drawing media attention from around the world.
Johnson's of Oldhurst near Huntingdon.
It was here where the three-year-old boy sustained serious injuries
after being thrown into an enclosure and attacked by a crocodile.
He was rescued by staff and pulled out by a woman,
believed to be the zoo owner's wife, described as a hero by those that know her.
I think we should acknowledge just how brave Tracey was.
Doing what she did would have made all of that difference,
and just putting herself at risk like that.
You know, these are predators in that enclosure.
There may have been another 10 or so animals with her,
just to completely have total disregard for our own safety,
going and rescue the child.
Let's recognise that for what it is. That's very heroic.
Just 24 hours earlier, the zoo had been celebrating International Crocodile Day,
publicising it through this social media post.
Today, the zoo was open to visitors,
but the tropical house where the incident happened remains closed until further notice.
As a family, we come here a lot, and we'd planned to come today anyway,
before we knew what happened yesterday.
And my partner's got a three-year-old little girl,
and we were saying just how awful it is.
When I saw it originally, I was like, yeah, OK,
that's got to be a hoax, because that would never happen.
I come with my friend's kids all the time.
They love it, because you've got crocodiles, you've got lions.
Yeah, well, I hope he's all right.
Crocodiles have been part of life here for nearly 20 years,
and are owner Andy Johnson's pride and joy.
What began as a small collection in a converted cattle shed,
swiftly became the star attraction of the zoo,
that's also home to livestock, tigers and other exotic creatures.
I think everybody's in shock.
From what I've seen put on social media so far,
everybody's saying, oh my gosh, just everyone's in shock.
Never thought it would happen.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk who was not known to the victim
has been released on bail after yesterday
being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Officers have assessed him as not being fit for questioning,
and the zoo says its thoughts and prayers
are with the three-year-old boy's family.
So, Emma, I guess the question now is what happens next?
Well, the first thing, we'll be supporting the boy's family.
As you heard, the boy is currently in a stable but critical condition
at Adam Brooks Hospital.
We were hoping to speak to somebody from this zoo today,
but we've been told that they are frankly too distraught,
too upset to go on camera,
but that their hearts go out to the family
and in particular the boy's mother who was with him at the time, we understand.
In terms of the investigation, well, as I said, it's very complicated
and part of that is because the man arrested is not fit for questioning.
I'm told that man has learning difficulties
and has been bailed until the 18th of September.
The feeling here tonight, as you heard,
is one of complete and utter shock,
but also a sense that, well, things could have been a huge amount worse
had it not been for the heroic actions of Tracey,
who you heard about in my report,
jumping in and saving this three-year-old boy.
She has been described to me as a remarkable lady, a hero.
Others have spoken of seeing staff today in floods of tears
as they come to terms with what happened.
The main thing from police is asking people not to speculate
as, as I say, this investigation remains live and ongoing.
Emma, thanks very much for that.
