My Wife Chose the Lure I Had to Catch Dinner! (Fishing Challenge)

For the next four days, I'm setting Frank for fishing and diving challenges. Every day he has to catch food using my rules. And if he doesn't, then we don't eat for the day. Number one, he has to catch a fish on these lures. He's got a couple of these in like other colors. It doesn't matter if it's not these specific ones. It doesn't matter what fish he catches, but he's got to catch a fish on this. The reason I'm not going out over the next four days, I have been really sick and it is currently zero degrees here. No, it's being dramatic. It's really, really cold. So the last place I need to be is out on the ocean in the middle of winter. I will be here for the catch and cooks. That was just the sickest scrap on that diver in like four meters of water. Oh, wow. Way too shallow for that kind of behavior. Straight down, straight on. All right, the challenge is set guys. We've got the current master and the blade breaker and we need to go catch a couple of fish. Otherwise we're not eating tonight. I've never used either of these two lures. I'm going to make it hard. I've only ever caught one snapper on a diving bib lure. Let's see how we go. The idea is we're going to get right up into the shallows. These things dive to about 12 feet, three and a half meters. We're going to get right up into the shallows and fish anywhere from four meters to about eight meters. This thing's hopefully staying off the bottom because I've only got four of these. I've got two current masters, two double clutches. The double clutches are a bit bigger. The southerly wind's going to make the fishing really hard. The idea is we're going to push up into the coast here, put the Minn Kota down slowly, just Minn Kota around the shallows, flick that current master out and see if we can get a snapper on that. Then we'll push out a bit deeper and we'll use the blade breaker and drop that down in the deeper water and see if we can get another couple of snaps. There we go, look at that little thing. Mean color, looks like a little mackie. It's going to go hard. If I can't catch a fish on this lure in the next two hours, I don't think we'll be eating tonight. This isn't going to be easy. Let's start casting this around. Let's work out how this thing swims. Try and put a fish on the board. All right, I can see the bottom. It's pretty shallow. Let's have a cast. Man, it's not really sinking that much, eh? It's not diving very deep. All right, that one's not diving deep enough. The other, that double clutch, the bigger one, has a bigger spoon on the front, so it should dive a bit deeper. So we'll chuck that one on and see how that goes. All righty, back in action. That one doesn't have a split ring, so we've done a loop knot on it, a bit bigger. So hopefully a little bit more weight to cast it a bit further. Way bigger scoop on the front. Let's see if that one gets us in the business. Oi, golly, gosh! Oh yeah, definitely a better cast. Or we could be on here. On is just in the right depth, not on, on, but hopefully on, on. This is it. If we're gonna make it happen, it's on this one. That one came back like about two, two and a half meters under the boat. We've got a lot more trust in this one. The only thing is, is it dives really deep, so we'll probably get it snagged. All right, a little bit of a change of plan. I'm just fighting the wind and the swell at the moment. So I'm gonna go to the bottom of the bay and then Minko to up with the wind and the swell. And then I should get a longer cast and put us in front of a few more fish. Oh, oh, I just got hit then. Oh, it didn't stick. I was just gonna say, I'm out over the sand. I can see the sandy bottom at the moment, but I was like, anything, I was thinking anything can happen. Whack. Oh, that was a good hit too. This is swimming really nice, really like good depth. All right, we're into some good ground. I'm gonna pepper around these rocks and we'll come around and then we'll start pushing down the coast. I actually like where we are. So I'm gonna spot lock here, just cast all around. As I said, I think this is gonna be the best bay to do this. So I don't really wanna ruin anything. We're gonna swing around and into the wind, but that's all right. I'll just put some big long casts in, back down the boat if I have to. Yeah, we really need to make the most of this bay. Man, that was tough, real tough. I said it wasn't gonna be easy. I just did that whole bay. I don't know how many casts I just had there. One hit, I don't know, just must've missed the hooks. It was a good hit too. And that I reckon was gonna be the best bay to do it in. There's plenty of other bays. We just need one fish. That's actually the perfect lure for these bays. I think I touched the weed twice, probably a couple of hundred casts. Maybe that's hopeful. Maybe a hundred, I don't know. A lot of casts anyway. I reckon we just need to put it in front of the hungry fish and it'll smack it. Hopefully it's a good fish too. Anyway, we're pushing down the coast now to the next bay. We'll pull up, do the same thing again. You got it, eh? Why does dad suck at fishing so much, man? Eh? He's got no fish for you so far. Nothing for you. I've actually got so much faith in this lure. I just don't have faith in the day, the conditions. I still think we can pull something out. Oh, nah. Snagglepuss. Oh, nah. Don't have a lot of faith in this lure now. All right, let's get around behind it. See if we can pull it out. I'm in colder away. Hopefully it's shallow enough that I can get right on it. I can potentially get the trace. We got it. We're back in business. Go down the coast now. Surely so many bommies through here. Mean terrain, but asking for trouble. All right guys, that bay went terribly. Onto the next one. We're just pulling up to it now. I think this is the make or break. Other than this, there's a couple of little areas we can flick and try our best. We can't get something through here. We are on Struggle Street. So then, I don't know, maybe we go out deeper and try to catch some fish on those blade runners. Try and get something a bit later on somewhere else. We're pulling up. The Minn Kota's going down. We need to make some ---- happen. Tevi, what do you reckon? Do I go and catch a big fish? Well, nah. Any fish actually. Any fish at all. What do you reckon? Tell the people. Tell the people what you think. What I actually think is I should have left you home and gone out to the islands. Just cruise through here. That speed. Just been going pretty slow because the wind's more pushing me. I'm more just using the Minn Kota to steer. I've just come down to the beach to see if I can see Frank. I'm still pretty unwell. So I'm not going out on the boat for the next few days. It's just so cold. I don't really want to get any worse. I think that's him. There are not many boats out at all. It looks pretty flat, but it's actually a sowwy swell. So it's pretty white cappy out there. My dream is that he's got a kingfish. Fingers crossed. Hopefully he at least gets a snapper, but a kingfish would be the absolute dream. But yeah, I think he's probably out here. Let's see if we can get it done, people. Wind's coming off. It's just sitting down there. I think this is a really good fish. It's got heaps of weight to it. It's just not doing anything. I'm scared. Oh yeah. Oh wow. This is a really good fish, guys. I need to get this up off the bottom. Oh wow. Really good fish. Chasing with the Minn Kota. I knew that. I could feel the weight of it. It just wasn't doing anything. I thought it just got off, but it was in the weeds. Oh my gosh. Man, this is really big. And we're really shallow. Pep, this is far from over. I need to get this thing up to the surface real quick. I am in panic mode at the moment, I can't see you guys. We're getting in near the rocks. Oh, it's hooked upside down, that's why. Double trebles. Oh, it's a king fish. Oh, it's a kingy. I'm shaking. I thought this was gonna be a big, really big snapper. It is fighting funny, it makes a lot of sense. Now we need to turn around. Holy, holy demon, people. All right, that makes a lot of sense. Damn it, I thought this was like an easy 20 pound snapper by the weight on it. But, hopefully it's size. I have hooked its honor. Oh, it's a good kingy, it looks good. Pep, what do you reckon about that? Pepe, you're in the net. Dog, you're in the net. Please, you're still in the net. Oh my God, we can't lose this Pepe Wawa. So stay out of the net, please. All right, here we go, here we go. Oh no, circle come around town. Are you kidding? Are you kidding me? It's too shallow to be doing that kind of stuff around here. Way too shallow for that kind of behavior. Oh, the panic on the guy. Wow, once I could feel the weight and I was like, this thing's big. Let me just take us off spot lock and get us out of here. Once that hooked, I was like, I'm pretty sure that's a fish here it is. And then it didn't do anything for a while and then it took off. And then when it did those couple of big runs, I was like, I'm in so much trouble here. It had way too much line out. Oh, actually, I think we need to go this way. Yeah, once I felt the weight of that, I thought that was easy 20 pound snapper. They fight funny sometimes in the shallow. So anyway, let's get this up. What do you reckon, dog? Yep, yep. First kingy for the boat. Holy moly. Hang on, let me just get us out of here. Oh, look at that. That was just the sickest scrap on that diver in like four meters of water. That was such a crazy scrap. I thought that was gonna be like a 20 pound snapper with the way it was pulling. Look at that lure. Anyway, that right there. Jane wanted snapper burgers. We're having kingy burgers. Oh, how good. All right, let's chuck that on the beyond the coast and measure that. See what it measures in at, eh? Yee-woo. I'd say it's about 95. Good chunky fish. Well, we might not be eating tonight yet because I still need to catch a fish on those blade runners, but I can't believe we've ticked that off. That was the first cast through this bay. Crazy. How epic was that? Oh, that was so good. That was such a good scrap. That was peppy while we were standing in the net when I was needing to net it and then it dove. I was like, oh, if this breaks me off now because the dog's in the net and I can't net it, I'd be so off it. Anyway, that was sick. That was the first cast through this area. We haven't gone too far. We're only about 50 meters from where I hooked that, so take it off spot lock now and carry on down through here. See if we can get a snapper as well. And then we may as well push out deep and see what we can get in the deep, get those blade runners going. Just need to see if we're going to win on a technicality there or not, because I can't remember if Jane said any fish or snapper. Surely any fish, right? Let's get it again. Told you I had faith in the lure. Dope, that was a good kingy. Would have been an exceptional snapper. I could see that kingy diving down, like it's so shallow here. I could see that kingy like diving down around rocks and stuff. I was freaking out. Didn't even panic once, not once. Really level-headed about that whole situation. That's what makes a good fisherman. All right, we're just slowly putting in the right direction. We're straight into the southeasterly now. Where I want it to go is quite a bit of a bash out, especially with the dog, especially how comfortable you are down here, right? I might go not as far and see if I can find some signs. But if we get halfway out there and we can't catch anything, then we're going to have to go and get it done. So I want to eat, which also means we've got a kingy that can have lunch and dinner. One more fish on these blade runners, we're on. Do we just push out a bit deeper and just drift the sand off? What do you reckon? I reckon you'll be all right there. Look at that thing, get it. I know. What's down there, fluffy? Earring on that fish? We're about to find out. Give it 10 minutes to get down there. Oh, did you see that little nib? Oh, oh. It's got a bit of pull to it too. Blade breaker. It's been down for like two minutes. Day one, challenge one, complete team. We did it. There we go. There's a snapper on the blade breaker. I'll tell you what, that was not easy. This morning was hard. That was a lot easier. I knew that this would be easier in the deep, but man, this morning was so hard. Super stoked with that. Nice snap. Get the hooks out of that. Let Pepe lick it, because that's what she likes to do. Sharp little hooks. Pepe Wawa, would you like to do the honours? Yeah. Yeah, want to lick it? Not day one? Not today? Day one, challenge one, complete. How good? Oh, perfect little eater too. That's going in the bin. On. Yes. What? Oh. Couple of clicks of drag. I've loosened the drag off a bit, but it feels like an all right fish. Hey? Yeah, I knew you'd like it out here. We got onto the fish. This is like a little tap, tap, whack, on. It's quite fun, this, actually. I don't do a lot of this deeper stuff, but now that I've got a good sounder, and I can find the areas, I'm definitely going to do more of it. It's so much fun. And I feel like it's easier for a feed. It's so hard to find a good feed in the shallows. I feel like the fish are few and far between in the shallows, but they're really good fish. So I want to catch a decent snapper, a real line puller, go into the shallows. Then I might just start coming out and doing this in the deeper. That's awesome. That's both of those blade breakers. Straight away, dog, get your head out of my reel, please. Hey, look at that. I thought it was going to be a bit bigger. It's like the same size, it's just fought harder. Look at that, dog. For you to lick. Hey? How good. We're on. Get those little hooks out of there. Drop that back down, eh? We're catching fish. That one's gone in the bin. Straight down, straight on. Another, ooh, couple of licks of drag. Pull in a couple of clicks, feisty. Turn that on, then you can hear it. Couple of clicks, not a lot. Oh, on. Double hookups. Double, whoa. Oh, double hookups. Oh, oh, that one seems all right. And also, this one seems all right. Oh, oh, maybe I'll just loosen that off a bit. That's on, that's a goodie. We'll quickly get rid of this guy and get onto that one. How good is it finding new ground? Oh, this has got a bit of weight to it. Oh, yeah, this is a semi-DC one. Ooh. In saying that, though, my drag's quite backed off, but they fight so different in the deep. Semi-decent, though, that's for sure. Here it comes, Pepe. Oh, it looks semi-decent. That's a nice fish, Pepe. That's a nice fish. What are you gonna, ah, one dog! Nah, that was around my other one. Ha, ha, ha, ha, how good? Both hooked, tiny little hooks in the corner of the mouth. We're on the board again, how good? All right, that one's going in the bin as well. All right, we're just pushing out to the last spot. Jane just called, we are in the clear. It was just any fish. I think I just got my head around that I wanted to catch a snapper on one of those in the shallows, so I thought, oh, is it just a snapper, but nah, any fish, so we're done, we're good. All right, Jane just rang, she's gonna meet us at the ramp, so we're heading in, what an epic day. Started off pretty slow, but we got it done. Let's go see Jane, see what she's thinking for lunch and dinner. What do you reckon, Pepe? You can have some snapper for lunch and dinner. All right, sunyay's on, we're out of here. It's really cold, and there's a lot of boats at the boat ramp, so we'll head home, check out the wharf. Yeah, it is quite the haul, eh? Okay. See how easy it was to put the boat on the trailer then? Honestly, so easy to launch and retrieve in that trailer, because it's the cat has those two little rails. Pull it up on there, click it on, so easy to wind up. Whoa, that's a nice snap! Oh my gosh, look at the kingfish! Look at the little gurney! Oh my God, you had a gurney! Yeah, and then, yeah, got that on that lure. Check this out. Pipiwawa. Actually, did you tell mum that you ate its heart while it was still feeding? Oh, that's revolting. Whoa, that is a good little kingy. Yeah, it was so hard. Oh, that's so cool, yes, I'm so excited. This is just huge. Good little, but stoked with that. Yeah, that is perfect. Few snaps. Few nice snaps. That's a nice snap. And a little gurney, that's a mean day out. Well, that's a little trait, little carrot. Yeah, so, kingy and snaps for lunch and dinner, and a few for the freezer. And then, whatever you dish up for tomorrow's mission, surely it can't be, I was just saying to the guys earlier, like, all right, you started off strong for day one with that double clutch lure. Yeah, well, look, you smashed it. I casted that thing for hours and hours, and I was so lucky that that happened to be around. Yeah, I only got like three hits on it all day. That's crazy, good effort though. Yeah. Great effort. Sashimi's like the best when the fish is like super, super cold. So, we're just gonna chuck a filet. Filet-o. Filet-o in here, and put it in the fridge for a little bit. How's this for a tray of fish, team? Still got a little bit to go, but that'll keep us going for a couple of weeks. The weather's been so terrible that I don't think we've got any fish in the fridge. This will help. It's our lucky day. It is, it is. All right, I'm gonna, this has been in the fridge for a little while now, so I'm just gonna cut up some kingfish so we can make some sashimi, and then we're gonna get onto some fish burgers. I like it quite thin. I think Frank actually likes it a little bit thicker. We'll do a bit of a mixture. Yum. Very excited about this. We haven't had kingfish sashimi in so long. Mm, yum. All right, I'm just gonna sprinkle some red onion on. So we both love some red onion. I'm just gonna pop this in the fridge for a little bit just to get even cooler, and then we'll get cracking on our fish burgers. All right, we're gonna get started on the fish burgers. So, actually, that's probably way too much. I don't bother doing it all separate. We just do it all together. It always works out. It always tastes amazing. Garlic powder. One egg. Oh my God, this egg is just breaking all over the place. Whisk the egg. All right, let's cut some of this snapper up into burger-size bits. We'll do avocado. Hopefully this avocado is good. They are definitely not in season at the moment, so, oh, amazing. Okay, we've got onion, avocado, egg, lettuce, and we only have chunky beetroot, so I'm gonna go with it because I love beetroot on anything. Okay, let's get the burger buns cut up and then get the fish going. Good. Okay, first piece of fish. Get that in the egg. Okay, first fillet. All right, let's get some oil in. Just gonna shallow fry this fish. All right, let's get the first one in. This element has a history of going a bit too crazy, so I'd rather it just under than over. Oh, she's already cooked perfect. Look at that. Yum. Crispy, beautiful snapper. I don't know what the time is, but I haven't eaten anything all day, and I am hungry as... It is your lucky day. I'd be so upset if I didn't catch anything and we didn't eat because it was a big day. It's literally like 12 hours of fishing and then filleting fish and cleaning up. Look at that, perfect. Yeah, perfect. We haven't exactly got... Actually, I'll go with this on here. The best beetroot. We go the chunky one for our poke bowls, but we don't have any sliced ones. If it's too chunky, it'll be good in there. Yeah. If you can manage it. Fish. All right, there it is. Some aioli and wasabi and some... That there is me. That is a fish burger. Big, big dog fish burger. Some red onion. I don't know. That is mine. And we need to also get the sashimi out. Sashimi. Soy and burgers. Um, I guess we should try this first. You go, though. We can both go. Oh, true. This looks so good. Dropped all me red onion in there. Yeah. Look at that. Mmm. Yum. Oh, let's go. So good, eh? So good. For a long time today, I didn't think we were going to be eating anything today. Yum. How good. This is like some of the best sashimi I've had, I think. Yeah? That's pretty good. Is it because you made it? Maybe. Good? So good. Well, there's normally chunky beetroot. Mmm. Yeah, the chunky beetroot was never going to play ball, eh? This is finer bits. So is mine. Pepe hasn't moved from the couch since she got home. She's so buggered. Big day for the little dog. Big day licking fish and whining at me to catch fish.
