In your this video we demonstrate two straightforward projects to improve the airflow and air quality in an Airstream RV.
**Project 1: Replacing Ceiling Air Conditioner Vents**
* **The Problem:** The original vents on older ducted Airstreams (roughly 2016–2023) are restrictive and offer poor airflow, leading to uneven cooling.
* **The Solution:** Upgrading to the newer style "open" vents used in 2023+ models. These are fully adjustable, can rotate 360 degrees, and allow significantly more air to flow through.
* **Key Installation Tips:**
* **Tools:** Screwdrivers, a drill with a 1/8 inch bit, and a cordless driver for self-tapping screws.
* **Pro Tip:** Use an old coffee can lid on your drill to catch metal shavings when drilling into the ceiling.
* **Process:** Remove the old vent (which may or may not be screwed in), press the new vent into the hole (tabs will hold it temporarily), drill pilot holes, and secure with three stainless steel screws.
**Project 2: Upgrading Air Intake Filters**
* **The Product:** Clear2O Dust Guard Filters (MERV 6).
* **Benefits:** These filters catch more dirt, pet dander, and allergens than the standard thin foam filters while offering less air resistance.
* **Installation Process:**
* **Template Method:** Use the old foam filter as a template to trace the shape onto the new filter sheet. You can typically get four filters out of one sheet.
* **Preparation:** If your RV uses a plastic frame, cut the old foam out of the frame using a utility knife.
* **Orientation:** Install the filter with the **blue side** facing the air inlet (the grate).
* **Assembly:** Sandwich the new filter into the frame and snap the grate back into the ceiling.
