L’île de Pharos était située dans la mer Méditerranée, dans la ville d’Alexandrie en Egypte.
Avec la fondation et le développement d'Alexandrie, la dynastie des Lagides (323 à 30 avant notre ère), décide de la construction d'un magnifique et prestigieux phare sur l'île de Pharos, qui devint la fierté et le symbole de la ville. Ce phare est d’ailleurs considéré comme une des 7 merveilles du monde antique.
On y retrouve actuellement la citadelle de Qaitbay édifiée au 15e siècle, à l'emplacement du phare mystérieusement détruit au 14e siècle.

L'île a donné son nom au mot « phare »

The island of Pharos was located in the Mediterranean Sea, in the city of Alexandria in Egypt.
With the founding and development of Alexandria, the Lagides dynasty (323 to 30 BCE), decided to build a magnificent and prestigious lighthouse on the island of Pharos, which became the pride and symbol of the city. This lighthouse is also considered one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.
There is currently the Qaitbay citadel built in the 15th century, on the site of the lighthouse mysteriously destroyed in the 14th century.
The island gave its name to the word “phare » (lighthouse in french).
