95,000 kilometres. 10 years. 80 countries. After nearly three years cycling down from Alaska — and surviving kayaking around the Darien Gap — I've finally made it to the last continent. To kickstart South America, I plotted a 650-kilometre route through the remote backroads of the Colombian Andes, riding south from Medellín through the Central Cordillera towards Ecuador. Páramo, wax palms, cowboy country, hot springs, and some of the most spectacular gravel roads I've ridden in a decade. After 95,000 kilometres, Colombia reminded me exactly why I started this.
