Multiplication for kids goes through different difficulty steps which they are supposed to take one by one, and one of these different steps is teaching the kids about math vocabulary which will help them to understand what they are supposed to do in multiplication.

Multiplication is also known as "double addition" and this is very important for kids to understand because it will make the equation easier for them to solve. When for example the kid is asked about the answer for 4 x 4, he/she should be well aware that this is the same as adding 4 + 4 + 4 + 4, which eventually means double addition.

Translating multiplication to addition on paper is important and this will be the first thing for the kid to learn, but sometimes giving this kid the chance to think in order to prove that he/she really understands and knows is also beneficial. Building blocks is one of the games that kids usually love to play with and using them to teach the kids how to multiply will turn out to be helpful at some point.

One of the ideas that Michelle came up with to teach the kids how to multiply with using those building blocks is to ask the kids a question and let them translate it into these blocks to get the answer. At first, some kids might not get the idea very well and thus might make some mistakes, but later on they will understand it all and will know how to translate the multiplication equation given to them into an addition one and put it down into those blocks.

This makes the whole idea of multiplication much easier for the kids to understand and know how to apply, of course it might not work with big numbers but it will still manage to help with those learning multiplication at the first stage of it and will not be dealing with big numbers yet.

Reaching the other stages of learning multiplication, the kids could use other methods and techniques that would suit the number they have and make the whole process easier for them. There is the number one used method which is the times tables that kids usually learn the first thing at school (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r6IN-h9d-I), there is the grid table method which suits the big numbers coming in the mathematical equations for the kids (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9TWSto7FSU), there is also something known as the multiplication table which is a table with numbers from 1 to 100 on which the kids could count the times tables of different numbers and not just one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKom4XkX7-8) and there are some multiplication games for kids like Bingo or doing multiplication along with some aerobics moves which the kids will also find challenging and will love playing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13LmvlsiwOw).

There are different math tricks that kids should learn to help them solve any math problems they face and know how the different math operations should be solved (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v-28FdX3m8). The most interesting thing about math is the fact that you could teach your kids with using their toys and games to make it look more exciting for them; it could be with play doh, with Lego pieces, with building blocks as we have shown you in this video, and it could be with the little small cartoon characters which they love to play with.

This educational video was to help parents homeschooling their kids to teach them how to multiply by translating multiplication to addition and use those building blocks to make it easier for them. This is used at the early stage with the kids to make it easier for them but it will not work with the big numbers and thus will not work with the upper grades.

There are lots of creative ideas to try while teaching your kids at home and most of them could even happen with using the tools scattered all around the house, so never worry about making the process of homeschooling interesting for the kids.

Have you ever tried using the building blocks while teaching your kids something new? Tell us your feedback and let us know how it turned out at the end.
