Do you want us to take you in a tour around the world? We would love to do the same as well and the first destination would be Egypt, to discover the history of the pyramids and know some of the ancient Egypt facts for the kids which they will find interesting.
There are three famous ancient Egyptian pyramids of Giza found there: Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. Khufu is the largest of the three, Khafre is the one in the middle and Menkaure is the smallest. The Pyramids of Giza come as the oldest when one looks at the seven wonders of the world and the one that stayed intact.
Did you know that Khufu - which is the largest pyramid - is believed to be built around 2560 BC and it took between 10 to 20 years in order to come to life? A lot of you might not know that and you might not even know that it is not just a huge building that the pharaohs used to put their things in, but it was a tomb which they built for their afterlife - it is even believed that the possessions of the pharaohs were left in other places which are not known about.
When one stands in front of the pyramids today and listen to the story told about them, one gets easily astonished with this great man made building that took thousands of stones to come to this world. Actually the great pyramid Khufu is estimated to have around 2,300,000 stone blocks and each of them weighs from two to forty tons and there are even those stones which weigh over 50 tons - and that is enough to make all the adults and kids astonished with the thing they are standing in front.
There is another thing that a lot of people don't know about as well. If you have been to the Pyramids of Giza before, you have probably seen this top part of Khufu pyramid which is different than the rest. A lot of people think that this is the part that has been affected when in fact it is the part that remained in its form. The whole pyramids were covered by limestone casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface and it has all fallen down to reveal those stones which we are exposed to today.
There are some interesting facts about the pharaohs and the way they used to think back in time. The pharaohs believed that they are going to be Gods in the afterlife and that is why they prepared for it through building temples for the Gods and massive pyramid tombs for themselves, and not just that, but they used to bury everything they have from treasures that include jewelry, food and even pets to take them to the afterlife.
The pharaoh is known as a ruler in ancient Egypt and it could be perceived in the same way the kings are seen nowadays or even back in time. The other pyramids - Khafre and Menkaure - which the pharaohs built in addition to Khufu, the smallest of them "Menkaure" is believed to be built around 2490 BC.
While touring Giza for the pyramids, there is one other thing to see there which is the Sphinx. The Sphinx was also built by the pharaohs and it is built in the body of a lion and the head of a person - a pharaoh - and it is believed to be there in order to guard Khafre tomb since he is the one believed to built it.
This was an interesting educational video that took the kids through a journey in Egypt to let them know some of the important facts about the Egyptian pyramids that would make them more aware of that old time.
