The True Story of Constantine II of Scotland | The Last Kingdom
Prior to Constantine’s reign, Scotland had been dominated by the Viking Kings of the Irish Sea known to history and Ui Imair who were the grandsons of Ivar the Boneless. During his reign Constantine himself would face Viking raids from the north and west as well as an expanding Anglo Saxon Kingdom of Wessex while trying to establish the Kingdom of Alba in its definitive Gaelicised form. Constantine was an early King of Scotland known in the 10th century by the Gaelic name Alba. Constantine’s Grandfather Kenneth is traditionally considered the founder of Scotland, which was then known as Alba although he bore the title King of Picts. This change of title from King of the Picts to the King of Alba is part significant as during this period Scotland slowly become the Kingdom we see today.
