A brief Look at Sewerby Rose Garden English Rose Garden Tour

Morning lovely viewer. Well we've come away on a short break to North Yorkshire and this where we are at the moment is a place I believe the pronunciation is Sewardbury Bridge it's a rose garden a walled rose garden. I haven't actually been inside yet but I believe it's just through there but you have to remember it was only an hour ago it was torrential rain it really was bucketing it down. Now I haven't actually I've got this far but I haven't actually gone inside as yet but there it is here the walled garden. I don't know anything about the history I'm just here for the flowers so let's go on inside. Sewardbury Sewardbury walled rose garden this is what you're greeted with this is the entrance and I've got the hound with me I'm gonna I'm gonna edit this up oh we've got one rose straight away I'm hoping the roses have um names on them so that I can identify them but I imagine that many of these are going to be old roses but I'm gonna I'm gonna edit this up and get a bearing on what we've got but when you first enter this is what you're greeted with today at least. Yeah this this here there's a sign just there saying that they're transitioning from winter to summer so they've just dug these up and they're now in the process of planting these these out but let's make our way to the rose garden this here the rose garden is just through there but this this climber here I spoke to a gardener and I asked him the name of this rose and he didn't know it he said that these roses on this side of the wall many of them are so old they weren't documented but this is a lovely rose here and extremely fragrant I'm getting the waft of this as I as I go past it must be it looks like a David Austin rose I have to say see if I can focus on that it certainly looks like a David Austin but I'm not sure oh that's so fragrant that really is fragrant I'm not seeing there are some thorns on it but not many the rain is coming down and this last week I know that there's been an awful lot of rain but that is a lovely rose and I was talking to someone a little while ago saying the pink and the red I've said before I like that you know the pink and the red the red and the pink but you need the white to set it off I think adding a white to those three colors they all work very well together but there's the first one here's someone come say hello Donna's got a brolly out no so I got him I got him babe I got him and here we come through this is the rose garden section here and the gardener did say to me that most of these roses here are now more modern and I'm hoping I'm hoping there's name badges to it it certainly looks nice very very nice look at that there's a lovely yellow here in fact I'm going to give Willie to you if that's all right there we go yeah this here I've just had a walk around and um yeah sadly on this bed here there's there's no names with regards to this yellow it is it is a very fragrant yellow I do not know which rose it is but there are some names to some of these beds but you can see the um the planting distance down here some of them are I would say less than 12 inches 12 inches apart I'm wearing crocs today but that gives you some idea I'm not saying you do this I've shown you this sort of thing before but that is you see that there that's very very close very close but that's a lovely that is a lovely yellow bed that is for sure now this this rose here is a rose called I think these are more uh more mature let's have a smell at this one wow that's really fragrant that is lovely that really is very nice love struck let's put my glasses on but you can see the you can see the water there but look at that look at that flower love struck very fragrant let's get another one you see it's a it's got the multiple heads here love struck it's a rose I've never heard of I have to say it is a rose that I've never heard of yeah that is a that is a fragrant that is a fragrant rose that really is but look at the look at the water on it and these roses have seen an awful lot of wet weather in the last in the last few days but that love struck fantastic flower that really is and I'm not I'm looking around there are some that have balled but there's not that there's not that many this here I think is the same yellow that's when we first walked in I'd love focus on there let's have a smell yes a fragrant rose it is a fragrant rose I'm looking around for a name but that there is very nice let's see if we can get Donna in as well look at that should we make that the money shot see if we can get a name for this rose there are a few more beds there's one there's one over here you see these are new beds that are going in I'll come back to those in a minute I think this has got to be lost again I think it is I think it is love struck yeah that's pretty fragrant really fragrant I wonder if this is known by another name elsewhere in the world look red and yellow there that works for me that works for me there's one just start to open there that's lovely it's a lovely red for sure I'm gonna remember that one love struck look at this here look at that just beautiful just beautiful and fragrant I'd love to get a name for this for this rose I will try the next gardener that way come across I think that these here are um I think these here are iceberg I'm pretty confident these two beds here are both iceberg I know Michelle she grows many of these roses and swears down by them I didn't have much luck myself because of this here you see the black spot and we're only at the beginning of the beginning of June Ken Boone Ken Boone is just messaging me I saw it flash up on my screen and I've got a funny feeling I know what it's about I have got a funny feeling I know what it's about Ken you'll have to wait and see but that's iceberg that is iceberg yeah maybe you'll you'll find out what all that is about on on Lynn's channel or maybe Ken's channel I don't know how they're going to do it but I sent I sent Ken a little gift I sent Ken a little gift for a little bit of fun a bit of fun I like entertainment this rose here I'm sure this is the same rose that greeted us at the front oh no no it looks fuller yeah I'd love to get a whiff of that rose there that's for that's for sure that's lovely this one here Belle de Jour excuse the pronunciation it's not in flower as much as yet but um that's not a lovely flower it's got just a on this one just a slight pink it's more pronounced to the eye but that is a that is a lovely yellow there let me get a smell of this one oh that's a really fragrant one as that is a lovely another sniff test on this one yeah that's a that's a strong strong scent that one there's another flower just in there peeping through they've got a whole bed of them and it looks like that when it does flower it's going to look pretty spectacular Belle de Jour there's a look at the amount of buds but you see the pink that is what makes this um look at that look at that it's a yellow rose but I'm really impressed with that I have to say and again it's another rose I've never heard of can you see that that's beautiful that really is nice um I'm very pleased with that there's a couple of roses that I'm gonna and this this rose here it looks very healthy I know we're only at the beginning of June I'm pleased with that one I am pleased with that rose there for sure look at that coming around here we've got another rose Sheila's Perfume which I know I haven't smelt this one yet it's quite an old rose I believe but I know it's a it's a very fragrant rose Sheila's Perfume look at that it is fragrant it is fragrant but normally I know Sheila's Perfume can be a very on its day can be a very very fragrant rose indeed okay in fact there's one flower over there that's caught my eye that's this one here look at that just starting to open look it's just starting to open look at that very nice and it's it can put out a very big flower now oh I just looked at the phone screen this one here could this be Chippendale no this rose here is it's a wonderful life this is a Dixon rose and it's a rose that I did get it's a fantastic flower um I have still got it potted I found that it's a rose it can ball up in the wet weather this is not a good example of that that looks perfect but he's got a whole bed of them here and I know it's a rose that likes to that likes to bud up and it's a rose that likes to flower Dixon roses yeah the guy he's um he's retired now sadly he was the I think it was the oldest rose breeder in the world and he has just retired but I spoke to him once and he told me that um I mentioned it before he's allergic to pollen he doesn't actually he breathes roses but doesn't smell them and when he describes his fragrance he keeps it very simple very very simple he'll say something as simple as fragrance to fill a room and he'll leave it at that it's a wonderful life fantastic performing rose there is a wonderful life there it's um I would say that this is slightly fragrant it's a slightly fragrant rose I do get fragrance from it but I would put it at slight and there's just one more there that one there it's a wonderful life beautiful absolutely beautiful there's a bed here you can't you can't see an awful lot but it is a bed of Minerva rose um and I know that one of you one of you has that but you see there are several of these roses they they look like they haven't taken so so well I'm not sure they're going to survive for whatever reason but there's at least I would suggest over a dozen in here but um for one reason or another it hasn't it hasn't succeeded and there's a couple of beds here that are still to still to be planted but this one here I have to say this one here is my favorite and this is the one but I'm gonna I'm gonna leave you with here this is my favorite rose on the day and that is a fantastic flower it really is with a gorgeous scent that's Will look at that I really like that I really like that indeed let's just get the name one more time Belle du jour Belle du jour fantastic
