Philadelphia community mourns murdered Penn State student as police search for suspects

A South Philadelphia neighborhood gathered Thursday night to honor 22-year-old Billy Schmidt as police continued investigating his killing.

Sources told Action News that evidence from a separate robbery may help investigators determine who was involved in Schmidt's killing. Sources said a juvenile is being questioned.

Family members, friends and local leaders filled the area near the 1900 block of Durfor Street, where Schmidt, a Penn State senior, was shot and killed early Saturday morning in what police described as an apparent robbery.
