Debut here at the HSBC Championships. It's the world number 19 from the USA, Iva Jovic.
On debut here at the HSBC Championships from the Philippines,
please give a very warm welcome to Alexandra Iala.
Okay, I'm just having a picture together.
That week last week might be for Iala. It's an unbelievable volley.
Supreme ball striking. Yeah, it's well done from Iala. Yeah, it's excellent from Iala.
It's just another unbelievable point. Well, that is a brilliant opening set of tennis from Iva Jovic
who got the better of Alexandra Iala pretty comfortably at Roland Garros just a few weeks
ago. And it looks like the same thing might happen here at Queen's Club. 6-2, she takes the opening
set. How smart is that? It's a real statement performance from Iva Jovic who once again gets
the better of her good friend Alexandra Iala just as she did so on the Parisian clay a few weeks
ago. Well, she now does so on the English grass here at Queen's Club. A scary talent at just 18
years of age. Iva, first of all, welcome to the HSBC Championships and congratulations on that
victory. It looked like a pretty solid win. How would you rate it? I think it was it was a good
win. Alex is a is a great player and I think she loves the grass having won a title last week. So
it was super tough and I think I just hung in there on those close games and was able to distance
myself just enough. But definitely scoreline doesn't show how tough it was. Yes, you two are
friendly as well. You can see from the embrace there at the net and also you played at Roland
Garros a couple of weeks ago as well. 18-21. How nice is it to play alongside some of your good
friends? Yeah, it's amazing. It's more fun playing doubles with her than being on the other side of
the net. So unfortunate we have to play in the early rounds but hopefully we play some finals
soon enough. And yeah, she's a great friend of mine and grateful for her and thank you everyone
for coming out. It's wonderful to have you guys here supporting tennis. Now this time last year
you were kind of playing Wimbledon qualifying. You're now world number 19. You've had some
great runs, a couple of titles as well. Can you talk me through that journey and kind of how
hungry you are to keep flying up the rankings? Yeah, super hungry. I mean obviously I've done
good for myself to get where I am now but there's so much more work to be done. I don't know. My
work over the past four years and Izzy as well. My mom's here too. So just a great team of people
that have helped me get here. Well, congratulations. You're in the in the final eight. Thank you.
