Forced Off the Road... Then We Found This!
A Wyoming windstorm forces us off the interstate and into the flea markets of Cheyenne... and the treasures waiting inside are far better than anything we expected.
We can’t continue any longer—or at least, according to the Wyoming State Patrol. Ninety-mph winds have closed the freeway outside Cheyenne, Wyoming, so we trade miles for treasure hunting and begin an unexpected day of flea market shopping.
Our first stop is Christine & Co. Flea Market, where bargain-priced vintage waits around every corner. Before long, we’re uncovering deals on hand-painted Camark Iris pottery, a 1910s French porcelain condensed milk container, a Raymond Loewy-designed coffee pot, and an assortment of rustic and elegant antiques that make this weather delay feel like good fortune.
As we explore Cheyenne’s 1890s downtown, we visit Memory Lane and discover an incredible variety of collectibles that reflect the city's railroad heritage and generations of American life. Fenton polar bears, Coors Beer trays, Budweiser tavern sconces, Hummel glassware, and Mount St. Helens ash souvenirs all compete for attention as we search for pieces our collectors will love. Every stop seems to reveal another surprise, and every aisle holds the possibility of a bargain.
With the freeway still closed, we make one final stop at Bart’s Flea Market, where a Lomonosov teapot becomes the bargain of the day. From Shawnee pottery and John Deere shop pieces to Murano glass, Van Briggle art pottery, MCM donut phones, and charming wedding cake toppers, the finds just keep coming.
What begins as a frustrating weather delay turns into one of our most enjoyable treasure hunts as we wait for Wyoming’s famous winds to calm.
