Alan conducts a traditional birthday interview with his son, William, while visiting South Africa. The video serves as a childhood keepsake, featuring a mix of personal questions, general knowledge tests, and inquiries from Instagram followers regarding William's life, education, and his connection to Taiwan.
A farmer makes a plan.
Hello everybody and welcome back to the channel. My name is Alan. My name is William.
And this is Life in Taiwan which has temporarily transferred to Life in South Africa.
And a huge part of the trip has now become a tradition
is William's birthday interview. Are you excited William?
Before we get started on this video there's one thing I want to put on record.
These videos are going to serve as a permanent reminder of William's childhood to us
so therefore I'm going to put it on record right now that this is the nicest, kindest,
the sweetest, loving, caring boy in the whole world. I couldn't ask for a sweeter nicer kind
of boy. His mum is doing an amazing job of bringing him up and I just want to say I'm
very proud of you. Do you agree or disagree? I agree. What's the most important thing in the
world William? Not who is the most important, what's the most important thing in the world?
Daddy it's almost my birthday. I was hoping you were going to say something like
to be nice or to be kind. No? Your birthday is the most important thing? Yeah to be nice.
Okay okay that's okay. What we're going to do we're going to give William some sort of personal
questions, some big questions about the world and then I'm going to go through some of the
subscribers questions that I asked on Instagram. Today's my birthday interview. What questions
Daddy asked me? But not hard ones. If you don't follow me on Instagram you need to get there
right now so you can be a part of future videos like this. My Instagram handle is right here on
the screen life in Taiwan 2017. Follow me and be a part of these things in the future. So first
let's get into those personal information questions about William. First of all I always
ask William every year what is your full name? William Andrew Lawrence. Okay and when's your
birthday? September the 1st. And can you remember where you were born? Taiwan. Taiwan uh yes. Now
let's get into William's education which is the whole reason that he came back to South Africa
to study. Tell us about your school. What school do you go to? Zero world applaud.
And what grade are you in? Grade one. And what's your teacher's name?
Teacher Tesna. And in school do you speak English or Afrikaans?
What do you like to learn in school? I like to do maths. Maths? Well all of the people watching in Taiwan
their maths is supposed to be much better than our maths. So shall I give you some difficult
questions? Five plus five. Okay. Five plus five plus five. Whoa. What about four plus four plus four?
Twelve. I knew it in my head. I just was counting from eye. What's your favorite sport in after
school class? Hockey. Hockey? Tell everybody what you need for hockey. You need a ball.
Yeah. A hockey stick. A hockey stick. Chin pads. Chin pads. A mouth guard. A mouth guard. That's it.
That's it. And what about a goal? A goal. And a goal. Wow. Okay. Cool. Yes. William loves to play a bit of
hockey. It's a very dangerous sport. People often lose their teeth. I know granddad Larry once he
got hit in the face with a hockey stick and all of his front teeth came out because he didn't wear
his mouth guard. Yeah. Okay. So that's a little bit about William himself. Now let's give William
some difficult general knowledge questions. Are you ready? Yes. How many countries are there in the world?
Five thousand countries. And why do we have different countries?
Because it's separate. Because it's made. It's different food types. Okay. Interesting.
Okay. And how many countries have you been to? Can you tell me what countries you've been to?
I've been to America, England, South Africa, Taiwan. Yeah. Any more? What about the Philippines?
Philippines. Yeah. What about Indonesia? Indonesia. A few more general knowledge
questions that I'd like to ask William. What's the biggest animal in the world?
Blue whale. Yes. Do you know what you said last year? What? Giraffe.
So can you tell me who's the president of America? I don't know. Don't know. Okay. Is it
Theresa May, Donald Trump or... Donald Trump. Ah. So you do know. You've heard his name before.
Okay. So I think that's enough general knowledge questions for William. Some better answers than
last year, but still struggling on some of the more difficult ones. Let's get into the questions
that came from the Instagram viewers. The first of which should pop up right here.
And that's from Judy in Hong Kong, one of my Patreons. And she asks on Instagram,
what is William speaking? It is not English. What were you speaking on Instagram? It was English,
right? Yes. I think I was talking South African voice. That's exactly right. You were talking with
a South African accent. We say accent. Yeah. Okay. And onto the second question, which actually has
two, as you can see, they ask similar questions, which comes from Yvonne Yen and Sean Huang.
First one, have you ever been to Taiwan? Yes. I was born in Taiwan. Yes, that's right. William
was born in Taiwan and spent the first four years living there. Four and a half. Four and a half years
before he came back to South Africa to go to elementary school. And then Sean Huang asks,
do you like Taiwan? Yes. What do you like in Taiwan? I like big city. Big city. Yes. Okay.
And onto the next question, which again is two kind of linked together, which comes from
MSA Popo and Ian Yeo. They're asking basically about what's your dream job and what kind of
career do you want to have in the future? I want to build places. You want to build places. So do
you want to be a builder? Yes. Is that the same as an engineer? Yes. Okay. Next question is a little
bit difficult. Comes from a girl called Sarah57812, I think. And she says, because your daddy stays in
Taiwan so long, do you ever feel lonely? No. Why don't you feel lonely? My mom is here. Yeah, of course.
I think to say, is William lonely? Of course not. He's got lots of family supporting him
and looking after him here. But maybe another question would be, do you miss daddy when daddy's
in Taiwan? Yes. What do you think about when you think about daddy in Taiwan? I miss him. I miss him.
How much? A thousand. A thousand. Okay. Okay. And onto the next question, which again is a combined
pair, asking pretty much the same question. One is from Jade Natalie Shen and the other from
Nigelino. Nigelino. And they want to know, what's your favorite food? My favorite food is apples,
and I like to try the beef sides. Okay. So there's an Afrikaans lesson from William. Apples, grapes,
oranges, and bananas. So you like fruit, right? Yes. Okay. And then another Patreon from my Patreon
page, Shaken Bacon. He wants to know, what's your favorite dessert? It's right behind me. What is it?
Ice cream. Okay. We're going to rush through these questions, get this video wrapped up.
Comes from Ray KFNG, and he wants to know, when will you come to Taiwan? In five years.
In five years. No way. We can't wait five years, William. To be honest, to answer the question,
we don't know when William's next coming to Taiwan. Maybe in six months, instead of me coming
here, when he's got his British passport, we'll bring him to Taiwan. Okay. And onto the next
question, which is the only one that actually came through in Chinese, and I can read 90% of it.
Frank asks, and I think that means, do you want to, would you like to come and live with
daddy in Taiwan? Yes. Why would you like to come and live with daddy in Taiwan? Because I like him.
Because he likes me. That's such an easy answer. Okay. Getting to the last of the questions now,
Ray Chen asks, would you like to be an astronaut? Yes. Why? Because I like flying in space.
Let's talk about space. How many planets are there? Let's say the planets.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
Whoa, give me five. Okay. And onto the final question, which comes from Love Quo G,
and she wants to know, what is your favourite cartoon?
Hobby Kids TV. Is that a cartoon though? Yes, I have a cartoon. Really? Really.
This message will self-destruct in three seconds.
So there you go. Hobby Kids TV cartoon. Can you watch it on YouTube? Yes. Awesome. That's
William's favourite cartoon. Who's your favourite YouTuber? Who's your favourite YouTuber?
I think that's time to wrap this video up. I've had so much fun here sitting on this bench trying
to control this little monster, trying to stop him running away. What's your message to the
people of Taiwan and all of my subscribers around the world? Please hit that subscribe button. And?
Hit that like button with a hammer, and hit that bell with a hammer, and hit that comment
with a hammer. Hit that comment with a hammer? And share with a hammer. Yes, what William's
trying to say is don't forget to like, share, subscribe. Don't forget to go check out my
Instagram. It would make William's day if I can get up to 3,000 followers. And comment down below.
And always, as always, leave comments down below. We're looking for a William plus...
Million. A William plus million, William plus one million in the comment section down below.
I love making these videos. I'm not sure how many views they're going to get.
I know it's got nothing to do with Taiwan, but this is my record for the future.
Excuse me when I'm finished. This is my record for the future. I'm so excited for William to be 18,
and to show some of the clips from these videos in the future. But as for now, and as always,
time for us to say... Bye. And when I'm 18, I'm starting my own YouTube channel.
