Video Summary
AI GeneratedAn expat shares a serene morning walk along My Khe Beach in Da Nang, Vietnam, reflecting on the joy of living by the ocean. The video explores the local culture of early morning wellness, the city's unique geography, and the narrator's personal journey from a demanding career to a peaceful retirement characterized by freedom and gratitude.
Good morning, family.
How's everybody doing?
Okay, I am over here in Da Nang.
I'm in the Anthon District.
I'm right by Mayan Beach.
So here I am, pretty nice location.
And I'm right across the street from a park
where there's a cross and there's a statue of Jesus.
And there's a couple of people there
in worship and in meditation.
So I thought that was really nice.
So I'm gonna turn the camera around
just for a moment so you can see.
I'm a little distanced from it now,
but I'm gonna see if I can turn
this camera around right quick.
You probably see in the distance,
there's a red cross, lights around the cross.
That's a park and there are people
in the park meditating in worship.
I thought that was very nice.
Here's a group in that same park
off in their exercises.
They exercise here in groups.
I like that.
I'm gonna get involved in one of these groups one day.
Got a landscaper working on watering the grass.
And then off in the distance,
there's a group doing their exercise.
That's gotta be amazing.
Now, one of the challenging things
here in Vietnam is trying to cross the street.
It's almost like doing a dance
with the motorbikes and cars.
Now, I'm very fortunate at this time
because there's a red light that caught them down there.
So on this street, there are operating traffic lights.
So I'm at the beach this morning.
And as you can see, there are people already here.
One thing I like about the culture of the Vietnamese,
they're out here at five o'clock in the morning
when the sun rise.
And as you can see off in the distance,
it's somewhat of a haze,
but then the sun is preparing to come up.
That is so cool.
You can see the sun coming up.
I'm gonna pan the camera around.
And you can see there are exercise equipment
built into the walkway here.
And people use this every single morning,
every single morning of the year,
seven days a week.
There'll be somebody out here
on this equipment working out.
That's amazing.
That is completely amazing.
I mean, the dedication to physical fitness is amazing.
So I'm gonna walk on out here on the beach
and we'll just take in,
take in, look at that sunset.
Oh my, the sun rise.
That sunrise is amazing.
I'm just gonna stand here and kind of take in the view
of that sunrise.
Beautiful.
You got people out here playing in the water,
children playing in the water.
A lot of people are out here before work,
which is what they would normally do in their daily routine.
They'll come out here and take in the beach,
take in the sunrise, do their exercise,
spend time with family before the kids gotta be in school.
This is amazing.
You probably can see off in the background,
there's the mountains.
So you got the best of all worlds here in Da Nang.
You got the mountains, you got the ocean or the sea,
you got the beach, and then behind me,
a little distance is the river, Hans River.
This place is amazing.
As you see, the sun's coming on up.
That's beautiful.
See the waves rolling in up on the sand.
I have dreamed of this for years.
Working on the assembly line,
this is all I thought about one day.
And as much as I thought about one day,
I'll get to enjoy a beach on my own terms.
I never thought I would be living a couple blocks from one,
but here I am.
God is good.
Listening to that water roll in, look at the sunrise,
look at the people enjoying themselves.
It reminds me of all of those setbacks
that I had in my preparation of getting here.
All of them.
I was able to overcome all of them.
It didn't come easy.
And a couple of them took a long time to resolve itself
to the point where I thought it would sabotage
my efforts to get here.
But for some reason I held on
and everything was taken care of.
That sunrise is amazing.
Beautiful, beautiful.
It doesn't get any better than this.
Sun is up now.
So I'm gonna walk on down the promenade
and take in the views and the scenery of the promenade.
And who knows?
Hopefully maybe one of these beach clubs
are open and serving coffee
or some type of breakfast sandwich.
I'll go for that.
We'll see what we got going here.
Let's go, y'all.
People take their exercise very seriously.
And some people are of the thought process
that to exercise, you gotta be in a gym
and you gotta be lifting heavy weights or all of that.
Hey, just movement, body movement.
Movement fights stiffness.
And if you notice, all these people are not young people.
These look like people that are in their fifties,
maybe in their late forties, fifties.
There's some in their sixties.
But they're serious about their exercise.
And they do this every day.
So a combination of body exercise.
Look at that sun, guys.
That's what it's all about.
A combination of body exercise, fresh food.
And when I say fresh food,
I mean without food that's grown without fertilizer,
pesticides, meat that was grown without,
shoot it with hormones to make it fatter and heavier
so they can charge per pound.
So a combination of exercise, fresh food,
and just keeping your mind healthy.
That's why it's not unusual to see somebody,
lifespan here is 105, 110.
And even at that age, they look good.
It's because they put it all,
they learn to put it all together.
At home, I want to get involved in exercise.
And I walk nine miles a week,
three miles, three times a day.
But working out in the gym,
yep, I had a membership that came
with my retirement package that I utilize.
But I didn't, I wasn't on top of it.
A lot of times because of the winter months.
The winter month is so depressing until,
this is the new beach club that I just,
I saw on YouTube week, a couple of weeks ago
that they just opened.
But those of you who are familiar,
I follow Social Salmon.
He does his walks every day and he will walk past here
and looking at his video, his YouTube,
I would see them developing, developing this area.
Now it's open.
So at some point, I'm gonna come down here
and check it out, see what's over here.
The Holiday Beach Club and Dining.
Man, that's pretty nice.
That looks like a pretty typical beach club
of any place I've traveled,
whether it be Jamaica, Bahamas,
even St. Thomas, U.S. Territory.
I will hang out in places like this,
sit down, take in the sights and sounds,
grab a glass of rum punch or something.
Man.
And then I would have to wrap it all up
because in a week or so,
I gotta go home and go back to work.
That's misery.
Well, guess what?
I don't have to go to work now.
I live here.
And I thought about,
I meant to come down here for a couple of days
and I didn't make it down here.
Now, if I was on vacation, I would be pretty upset
because I gotta have the best time as I possibly can
before I get ready to go back to work.
But hey, y'all, I don't have to go to work.
So even though I missed those two days, it's okay.
Why?
Because I live here.
I can come down here anytime, any morning, any evening.
The culture here is people utilize the beach
in the morning, then in the heat of the day,
they go to work or they go home or whatever.
And then about five o'clock this evening,
they'll start to come out
because it started getting dark at 5.30
and it's totally dark at six o'clock here.
So I love the beach umbrellas.
I love the cabanas.
That's my thing.
I'll just give the attendant enough money
to hold my cabana for the whole day.
I sit there, enjoy it.
Then I'll go have a bite to eat and I'll leave.
And then after I leave, I come back
and they're still there because, hey, I bought it.
I paid for it for the entire day.
So that's what it's all about, beach life.
Now everybody's video has this building in it.
And from what I understand, this building is not open.
There's a unique design, there's a unique architecture.
I see balconies all across.
I don't know if this was built to be an apartment
or it was built to be a hotel.
I would imagine it was built to be a hotel,
but I understand it never opened.
They built it, then they stopped and they abandoned it.
So I don't know if there's a money issue
or organizational issue or municipal issue,
but this place has never opened.
And it's unique.
Every single YouTuber who lived out here
or who has visited out here
have walked past this building and I've seen it.
So now I get to walk past it and I get to see it.
And it's interesting.
I don't know what their plans are for, but it's interesting.
I guess one day, if they decide to come back to this project,
I guess we as the public could get an opportunity
to do a walkthrough and see what it looks like
on the inside.
Now, one thing about Da Nang is construction is all over
and it's every day of the year.
So if you're a person that's not into construction,
you're not gonna be very happy here.
Some locations have noise schedules,
but they're not allowed to use jackhammers
until after eight o'clock in the morning.
And then they have to stop at a certain time.
And then I've heard locations
where they don't have a noise ordinance.
So jackhammering, so it forces you to make a decision
whether you wanna live around a construction zone or not.
If construction noise bother you,
you probably wouldn't wanna live next to one.
But this is gonna go on for about a year.
Well, I imagine since the structures are up in the sky,
it's probably gone on for a year already.
But that's the story of constructions here in Da Nang
is that there's a lot of construction.
There are so many people here
from so many places around the world
who've come here to visit, to tour,
and as well as expats like myself
who've come here to live
until it has forced them to go
into a crazy construction phase.
At nighttime, this place is beautiful.
All these buildings, all these hotels along the strip,
they all light up.
They all got their own
individual customized lighting systems.
So when you're on the beach
walking along the edge of the water,
you can look over
and you can see some pretty fancy light work.
I love this beach, Mayan Beach.
The sand is white, whitish color.
It's very soft.
The sand almost remind me of the sand
at St. Pete's Beach Inn in Florida.
The sand is very soft.
Look at all these cabanas.
And they're going to be filled up
in a few hours from now.
Turn back and look at the buildings
along the strip from a distance.
Beautiful.
I sat down in one of these cabanas
and I'm taking my,
I'm wearing clogs today,
taking my clogs off
so I can enjoy the...
Okay, sorry.
Sorry for twisting it,
twisting the camera sideways on you guys.
But I said I wanted to walk
so I can get my toes wet in the water.
As you can see, the sun's all the way up.
And it's beautiful.
She's gleaming.
As you can see,
there's people all alongside the beach.
Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people.
You can see hotels in the distance.
I don't forgot what the name of that beach down there.
But that's the area that I plan to find my,
possibly find my permanent apartment or condo
just to the north.
It's slightly outside of the tourist area.
Prices and rents and rates are cheaper.
Here, it's a little higher
because you're in the middle of a tourist district.
Now, if you notice the building with the trees,
the plants growing out of it,
that's called the M Hotel.
I got a chance to see,
kind of like a documentary of the M Hotels,
a five-star hotel.
But that hotel,
I'm gonna save that hotel for my birthday.
Coming September,
and during my birthday,
I would have just completed my first visa run,
or border run,
because my visa is 90 days, tourist visa.
So I would have gone out the country and come back.
Then I'm gonna celebrate my birthday inside this hotel.
So I'm gonna stay here probably two,
possibly three nights,
and that should be really exciting.
Since I have a Vietnamese phone number,
because I now have a Vietnamese SIM card in my phone,
I've downloaded an app called Agoda.
And Agoda is what you want to have in your phone
if you plan to book various hotels and accommodations.
Well, I've done so.
And so I've looked at the price of staying
at some of these five-star properties,
booking through Agoda,
and man, it's amazingly inexpensive in comparison
if you use a book of accommodation like this in the U.S.
In the U.S.,
this place probably costs $600 a night to stay.
I haven't looked at the M Hotel in particular,
but I look to stay here,
I would imagine probably $80, $90 a night, if that.
So I'm gonna get an opportunity to stay there
during my birthday.
So that'll be a gift to myself.
Man, this water sounds amazing.
It sounds amazing.
Get out here and put my toes in so I can see.
Is it cold or is it warm like the weather?
Is it?
Oh, it's warm.
Oh, it's a little cold, but it's not bad.
Oh, this is nice, man.
Listen to that water rolling up.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's what it's all about right there.
That's what it's all about.
Yeah, these waves, I would say, is surfer's quality.
It's not rough, so if you're a beginner,
this'll be a nice,
this'll be a nice wave to come in on.
See guys out there fishing.
I don't know if you can see it from here,
but you can see what look like a tow line
all the way out there to where you see a boat.
But you could be sure if you go to a restaurant
and have any type of seafood today,
that seafood was caught this morning.
Ooh, this water feels so good.
Oh my God.
Oh, thank you.
It's amazing that I've been blessed with health
that I can come and enjoy this.
Look at that water rolling in.
Oh, that feels so good.
This is so amazing, y'all.
Y'all gonna have to skew me right through here
because this is a dream.
Every time I've enjoyed something like this before,
it was a vacation and it came to an end at some point.
Well, now this is every day.
Every day, every day, if I choose.
Every day, every day.
Did I say every day?
Yeah.
So, wave's coming in a little stronger at this point.
But in my observation,
everyone that I have seen out here on the beach so far
seem to be closer to my age.
I'm gonna take a walk all the way
until I get to the front of the M Hotel
so you all can get a closer look
at what it looks like from the outside.
It's very unique,
although they have a couple more buildings
that I would say kind of imitate the M Hotel
with have trees and greenery, foliage,
growing out on the balcony,
covering the size of the building.
But the M Hotel has them beat, in my opinion.
See here, some guys into their exercise over there.
This is the M Hotel with all those vines and trees,
whatever that is, coming out the side of it.
Part of their design.
I'm gonna walk a little further
so you can see the other side of it.
Sun's up now.
Look how beautiful that is.
There's a surfer.
I knew there would be a surfer or two out here.
Just gonna enjoy that.
Gonna try to ride a wave in.
People out here on their photo shoot.
It's a beautiful morning.
Beautiful sunset to do a photo shoot
on.
I walked down to this part of the beach
so that we could take a look at,
there's a couple of hotels going up over here.
You got a crane at one.
So one hotel is kind of low.
It will climb in a few weeks.
Got another hotel that seem to be
maybe at the 14th, 15th, 16th floor.
And look like it's gonna climb even higher.
But when I pan over to the M hotel,
you can see how the vines or whatever that is,
how it comes, it threads out of the building.
And I got a chance to see the room looking out the window.
You could barely tell,
you would think with all of that,
it blocks the view, but it doesn't.
And it must be the penthouse up top.
I can't say I'll be staying in the penthouse,
but I will stay somewhere in this building.
Maybe in the mid, mid floor,
maybe 15th floor or so.
But I'm gonna book it very early
so I can assure myself
that I'll get an opportunity to enjoy that.
Let's walk on up toward the promenade.
I guess they, I think they call it the promenade.
Go up there and run my toes through the water,
get the sand out.
Everybody's doing their exercise.
Look like we got the Maya Beach Club.
If it's not open, look like it's getting ready to open.
I see some activity up there, it looks like.
Look like possibly they may be serving
some type of breakfast, I don't know.
Once I wash my feet, I'm gonna take a closer look.
Anyway, here's a closer look
at the main entrance of the M hotel.
It's another beach club, Maya.
It's Maya Beach Club and Dining.
It's not open yet, and they got a security guard
to make sure everything stays intact.
But it's another chill spot.
Okay, I came across this sign and I had to videotape it.
It says, not all pizzas made the same.
And then it has it in Vietnamese,
Motor City Detroit style pizza.
Isn't that something?
They give you the address and the times of the board,
I guess they have board games or whatever.
But I thought that was pretty interesting.
Motor City Detroit style pizza.
Come on, y'all.
We talking Detroit basketball.
That's all right right there.
