Casa F&V - Florence, Italy | Archiplan Studio

Located just south of Florence, only 1 km from the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, this 14th-century residence underwent a significant renovation during the 1980s.
The atmosphere of the house is almost mystical, evoking the feeling of a secluded retreat nestled within the consolidated urban fabric of Florence. Despite its proximity to the city center, the home offers a rare sense of calm, intimacy, and contemplation.

The entrance is defined by a multifunctional custom-made storage unit that also serves as a balustrade and handrail, introducing a contemporary gesture within the historic structure. The decision to finish the ceilings with resin and the walls with a natural lime-based plaster was intended to create an abstract and understated domestic environment, one that is simple in appearance yet rich in character.

Throughout the interior, carefully selected furnishings reinforce the essential nature of the living spaces. A bespoke oak dining table and wooden armchairs positioned beside the fireplace highlight the home's elemental and timeless qualities. The kitchen, salvaged entirely from the owners' previous residence, was thoughtfully reused in the new setting, requiring only the replacement of the countertop.

The ground-floor guest bathroom continues the narrative of natural and tactile materials through the use of a travertine stone washbasin. The bedrooms, simple and welcoming, reflect the overall character of the house, contributing to the intimate and comfortable atmosphere that permeates the entire residence.

Every furnishing element has been carefully designed or selected to respond to the specific qualities of each space, supporting a coherent and place-sensitive approach to contemporary living.

The generous original openings have been preserved and complemented by custom iron-framed windows and doors, strengthening the visual connection between the interior and the surrounding garden.

The use of natural materials-including stone, lime plaster, and wood—reinforces a sense of familiarity, authenticity, and tradition, transforming this residence into a warm and welcoming refuge in the heart of Florence.
