The guide covers how to access the tool via the Adjustments menu, how to control the blur intensity using the slider, and provides professional tips for achieving polished, realistic, or dreamlike results in digital art.
Hey everyone! Welcome back to Digital Art with Kinsey. Today, we're diving into one of Procreate's
most essential tools, the Gaussian Blur. So, let's start with the basics. What exactly is
Gaussian Blur? Essentially, it's a filter that softens the edges of your image by blending
pixels together. It's great for adding depth, creating smooth transitions, blending backgrounds,
and adding atmospheric effects to your artwork. It's super versatile and I'm going to show you
exactly how to use it in order to make your artwork look polished and professional in Procreate.
First things first, let's open up Procreate and start with a basic drawing. To use Gaussian Blur,
you'll need to head over to the Adjustments menu. You can do this by tapping the magic wand icon at
the top of your screen. Once you're in the Adjustments menu, you'll see a bunch of options,
but we're looking for Gaussian Blur. Now that we've selected it, you'll notice a slider appear.
You can slide your finger or stylus to the right to increase the blur effect or to the left to
reduce it. The more you slide, the stronger the blur gets. You'll see the edges start to soften
and this is especially useful when you want to blend out harsh lines, add depth, or create a
sense of focus in your artwork. One of my favorite uses for Gaussian Blur is to create smooth
transitions between different parts of the drawing, especially in digital portraits or when you're
working with gradients. This allows you to give your artwork a more realistic or dreamlike effect
depending on what you're going for. Now, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, here are a few tips
to level up your Gaussian Blur game. One, you can use Gaussian Blur for multiple layers for a layer
blur effect. Two, experiment with Layer Mask to apply the blur only to certain areas of your layer.
And three, try to use a lower blur setting and building up gradually for more control. Now you
know how to use Gaussian Blur in Procreate to create smooth and professional looking artwork.
Play around with it and let your creativity flow. If you found this video helpful and enjoyed, be
