The story follows the aftermath of the destruction of Geyser Rock, a local landmark. While the town mourns, the presumed-dead Mr. Burns returns and attempts to buy every media outlet in Springfield to manipulate his public image. He faces opposition from Lisa Simpson, who starts her own independent newspaper to expose his monopolies, eventually inspiring the entire town to start their own publications.
