Hello guys, I assume you're here for this. In the next 20 minutes or so I'm going to
summarise Velar's current line-up of engines, its new simplified 3-step spec walk, the updated
colour palette and crucially what's changed for the 26th model year. Is it now worth upgrading
from its smaller sibling, the Range Rover Evoque? Perhaps you're considering downsizing
from its bigger brother, the Range Rover Sport? Or even if it's giving up the keys to your BMW X4
or Porsche Macan? Let's watch and find out, shall we?
Welcome back to BHP Tours, your home of car reviews and road trips across Europe.
This video I'm back at Land Rover's state-of-the-art showroom in Battersea,
southwest London, at one of their first arch concept showrooms. This time it's a hat-trick
of Land Rover videos after recording the Defender and also the Range Rover Sport SV.
But for those who aren't familiar, here's my last video,
practising driving around the Nürburgring GP track in a BMW M4.
So as per the title of this video, I'm going to be showing you the latest
26th model year Range Rover Velar. You might ask, why? Well because since its launch in 2017
for the 18th model year, it's been one of the slowest selling models in the JLR lineup.
However, it was a very important car for the brand when it was launched.
Labelled by Land Rover as the avant-garde Range Rover, which roughly translates as ahead of its
time, it debuted a lot of important new technologies for the brand such as deployable
door handles, the first Range Rover to have full LED or full exterior LED lighting and also the
first car in the brand to have two touchscreens, upper for sat-nav and all of the infotainment
and lower for some of the features like climate controls, heated seats and even some of your
off-roading functions. A bit more of a stronger reminder for you guys, please make sure you
subscribe to the channel. It's like footballers when they sign for a club on loan, kissing the
badge. Our most recent Defender video proved really popular with over 160,000 views at the
time of recording this video. But despite its success, you won't believe this, the stats will
show here, over 99.4% of people who watched that weren't subscribed to my channel, mentally.
So whether it was my 25 model year Defender update, my other detailed walk around or this
very Velar video that you're watching right now to help you choose which model or spec to buy,
which colour to choose or even if it's just a good watch, make sure you click that subscribe
button. Help me work with brands like Land Rover so I can bring you content like this.
I do also listen to my audience by the way and I've read nearly all of the near 180 comments
from my previous Defender 25 model year video complaining about the background noise,
so there will be no music, just you and my voice giving you knowledge.
So let's start off with colours first, shall we? Because the Velar is a pretty stylish car
and for the 26 model year, it's pretty grey. Four different shades I must add,
so it's black, white, grey or a blue that looks grey. Let's have a look in a bit more detail,
shall we? So let's start the grey countdown with Arios Grey, the only non-premium metallic grey
available on the Velar. It was introduced at the 24 model year, one of the major changes on the
Velar, that's where they changed the headlights and the interior and as you can see it's quite
a pale grey. I think it works really well with the black exterior pack as a contrast, they have the
black grille, lettering and so on. I can't imagine this colour will be hugely popular but
certainly different than the other greys nevertheless. So the first premium metallic
paint I'm going to show you is Zadar Grey and this colour was launched new for the 26 model year.
The Velar has always come in a Gunmetal Grey, at launch it was a Corus Grey, then a few years later
it was Aiger Grey and now this has been put into the premium palette as Zadar Grey and I like it,
it sort of has an element of green in it. I've actually been to Zadar, so you can probably see
that on some b-roll here, where I drove my BMW M2 all the way to Albania via Italy and then all the
way up the Adriatic coast, so I did actually stop there. I can't tell you what it reminded me of,
maybe the sea or some rock but yeah there's always a method to Land Rover colouring but let me know
in the comments if you think this is worth the premium. It's actually almost twice the price in
the UK, so 760 is the standard, 760 Great British Pounds, takes is the standard paint and then you
have the premium metallic which is over 1400 pounds, so quite a difference, so let me know in
the comments if you think it's worth it. I quite like this next colour, I told you it's nice, this
is Surenti Grey, it's a really deep dark grey, sort of looks like it has elements of brown in it,
again complemented by the black exterior pack. I really like it, it's quite different, it was
launched on the all-new Range Rover in 22 and again found its way into Velar a year later and
it looks very different in certain lights, I'm sure it looks black to a lot of people,
hopefully the lighting here might show it off well but yeah I really like it, part of the premium
palette but yeah like it and haven't seen many Velars with it, it's actually the first one I've
ever seen so yeah really like it, let me know in the comments if you think it's good. Now I have
one more and it's Carpathian Grey, definitely one of my favourites, funnily enough it was this very
model that introduced this colour to the brand and the premium paint palette when the Velar was
first launched in 2018, it's a really dark rich colour, noticeably different to black in my view,
especially in the sun and supposedly the name was given after the colouration of the rock
and the Carpathian mountains in and around Romania, how cool. There is some good news though,
for those who like colours a bit away from the norm, as for the 26 model year Velar, there are
two additions to the colour palette, Giola Green which you see here, available exclusively on the
Range Rover Sport has been opened up to the Velar, it's named after the water in the Giola Lagoon,
the Greek island of Thassos and it's pretty unique I'd say, I wanted to sort of park it if I could,
park the car at an angle that might show it looking a bit different but I haven't seen it
on a Velar but yeah they offered it on the Range Rover Sport, I think this was the launch colour
on the Sport and you also have the option of the Striking Batumi Gold, taken from the launch colour
of the flagship new Range Rover, for those into Greek mythology you will love this, this paint is
named after the Georgian Fleece which is a golden winged ram which is currently located in the
Georgian city of Batumi. To avoid you having to rewind to look at the colours again, I thought I'd
put a couple of cars side by side just so you can compare, so in front we've obviously got Zidar Grey
without the black pack, new premium grey just introduced, allow you to compare it with the
Eiger Grey on the Evoque so that was pre-26 model year, again non-premium colour, a bit darker,
slightly different so again that might make your mind up because colour tends to be an important
part of a purchase, also allow to show you Zidar Grey to the darker Carpathian Grey, again my
favourite, you can then see a black Evoque next to it so you can sort of see this shade so you can get
a gauge on sort of where to go and then obviously behind me you have Charente Grey with the black
so again just a few different colours to allow you to see which one you prefer and then finally
you have Varacin Blue which is that greyish blue that I mentioned earlier on in the video
and after a bit of research I think it's named after the skyline in the district in northern
Milan, I could be wrong, I think Land Rover missed a trick here with this colour, you can see here on
the Range Rover with its 22 inch silver wheels and lighter exterior accents, it looks very different
than you can see here on the B-Roll with its Velar and its 22 inch wheels in this Range Rover Sport
and 23 inch wheels so colour can look quite a bit different but I think I missed the Portofino Blue
which is a blue that was available pre-24 model year prior to that facelift because it just lacks
a bit of character, some may disagree and ultimately it's your opinion that matters when you're spending
this sort of money on a car but yeah I sort of missed that Midnight Blue, I think it really set
the Velar off, unfortunately it was taken away off every model so it's no longer available, this
Varisene Blue is available on the Range Rover Sport Velar, I think that's it, I could be wrong, let
me know in the comments. The Velar does have quite an extensive list of standard equipment that some
might expect from a £55,000 to £80,000 luxury car, aside from the off-roading functions like
permanent four-wheel drive, Land Rover's famed Terrain Response and an eight-speed automatic
gearbox, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Land Rover's PIVI Pro system which uses an eSIM
to give you live up-to-date traffic information, feature a standard on this 11.4-inch iPad
tile touchscreen you see below. Other key standard features are electrically adjustable and heated
front seats with driver side memory and you also have a heated steering wheel with electrically
adjustable brake and reach which again also works with the memory function and the technology
continues on the inside because as well as the standard fitment of the wireless charging pad
which was introduced at the 24 model year, you benefit from four USB ports, all USB-Cs,
one by the charging pad, one in the centre armrest and two behind in the second row
and you also get a 12-volt socket to allow you to charge up to six mobile devices at one time.
In the interest of keeping people happy on the inside, the Velar follows its larger siblings,
the Range Rover Sport and also the Range Rover by having the standard fitment of the fixed
panoramic glass roof. It's also tinted and laminated and has an electric sun blind which
you can use to close partially or fully to help protect occupants in the back and the welcome
features continue. There's a 3D surround camera with front and rear parking sensors as well as
all the cameras to help navigate yourself around towns and tight parking spaces and width restrictions.
Your advanced driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist
and driver condition monitor. Lane keep assist can be turned off by pressing this button on the
steering wheel which is a huge relief because it turns on every single time the car is turned
on. You have to press that to turn it off. There's also a welcome security update. As for the 26 model
year, every Range Rover Velar benefits from Secure Tracker Pro which is a Thatcham category 5S
tracking system. Just so you know, Thatcham are the research organisation that benchmarks
automotive security systems. So when you set up the in-control subscription on collection from
the land of a franchise retailer which also gives you the remote app so you can see where the car's
parked and preheat it and so on. It also allows you to download a certificate from the portal
so you can provide it to your insurance company, hopefully might lower your premium.
Electronically powered tailgate which opens and closes via a button on the tailgate. It can also
be done on the key and there's also a button on the right hand side of the steering wheel.
First choice you'll have to make is whether you want the dynamic body kit. Worth the upgrade to
most I think. In the middle of the range of the Dynamic SE which gives you the dynamic exterior
pack. Makes a huge difference to aesthetics in my view. Notice it at the front. Front bumper's
different. You get the copper elements here which extend to the bonnet vents which are also included
side vents and exhaust tip covers or where the exhaust should be. Continues at the front as well.
Range Rover lettering front and rear goes from Graphite Atlas to Shadow Atlas,
silver to dark grey. And then if I walk around here, you'll see the wheels stance is hugely
changed. So you have 20 inch wheels rather than 19, make a massive difference. And then if I walk
you on the inside, you also get metal pedals to replace the rubber and you're welcome to the world
of Meridian Audio with its 380 watt sound system. And again to some, the Velar is just an attractive
mid-size SUV but if it was me and I was looking to buy something like this, I'd have to go for
the Dynamic exterior pack because it just makes the car look more sporty and something I'd like.
As part of JLR's new three-step spec walk for the Velar, the Dynamic HSE has been deleted
and the Dynamic SE and the Halo model in the Velar lineup have been amalgamated together.
And now top of the tree for the Velar is the Autobiography which followed the three other
models in the Range Rover family to top the range, that 24 model year facelift that I spoke about.
But for the 26 model year, the plug-in hybrid is now introduced and also the D200, bringing the
price down and making it closer to the Evoque and also taking it further away from the Range Rover
Sport. As well as a badging on either of the front wings, the Autobiography further distinguishes
itself between the other two models in the Range by extending these burnished copper elements to
the Range Rover script on the bonnet and also on the tailgate as standard. Also still standard on
the Autobiography Velar are pixel LED headlights which are added to the Range in 2024. Following
the success from the 22 model year Range Rover. They're automatic, so there's no need to turn
them on or off. They have a really cool animated wake-up sequence or launch sequence and they have
a full tourist mode which allows you to have adaptive high beam or adaptive driving beam
when driving on the other side of the road. And with the larger wheels on the Autobiography,
you get the standard inclusion of electronic air suspension. Let me show you what it does.
You have three modes as you can see here. Off-road height increases at ground clearance
by up to five centimetres depending on whether you're driving over 30 miles an hour.
And then in four seconds you can lower the car by four centimetres to access height to make it
easier to get in and out. You can still get deployable side steps on the Velar though.
Whether that's to help young children jump in and out after football, making it easier for the
mother-in-law to get comfortable or even access to a roof box. You pay just over £3,000 for the
privilege. So inside the Autobiography you get some really premium touch points. Starting with
the suede cloth headliner which replaces a fabric, extends up all of the pillars to the standard
sliding panoramic glass roof. The full leather steering wheel including the airbag cover.
You also get this beautiful shadow grey ash veneer that extends along the centre console,
is on each of the door cards replacing the brushed aluminium. The top-of-the-line Meridian
surround sound system also features 750 watt system with 16 speakers. That's an upgrade from
the Meridian sound system with 400 watts and 11 speakers. As well as giving you more leather on
the dashboard, more adjustments on the seat and the chrome surround extended Windsor leather interior
gives you on the Velar Autobiography the deep garnet interior that you have here on the Evoque.
The Autobiography also gives you the option of carry-away like you see here on the full-size
Range Rover and the 25 model year Defender that you see here. Now there's also a left-wing option
which is available when the car was originally launched in 2018 called Eclipse which is a dark
blue but for the 24 model year facelift it was changed to Raven like you can see here on the
configurator. The two more common interiors are Ebony and Cloud. I quite like a lighter interior
although I don't wear denim often so that helps. Another big update for the Velar is that both of
the combustion engines carried over from the 25 model year have had their prices slashed by £5,000
in the UK market. Here are some of the features that were previously standard on the Autobiography
which now are not for 2026. Red brake calipers, heated and cooled front seats with massage,
illuminated metal front tread plates, configurable cabin lighting, four-zone climate control with
cabin air purification plus and head-up display. And while some might be disappointed that some of
those items are missing it makes the Velar Autobiography a lot more attainable and brings
it far closer as I said earlier to the Range Rover Evoque. So four powertrains available for the Range
Rover Velar and it's interesting that that's Land Rover's language for engine considering on
the Velar you only have petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrids so there's no electric offering currently
but with Jaguar being the electric branch from JLR and the all-new electric Range Rover coming
very shortly it sort of makes sense. Let's start with the entry point and no your ears do not
deceive you this is the four-cylinder two litre diesel D200 and it's really well refined especially
so when the bonnet's closed. Headline figures include over 42 miles per gallon as possible
and just over seven and a half seconds to 60 which isn't a bad place to start
but this is a diesel that you really want if you can stretch that budget that bit further.
It's available on all models in the JLR lineup bigger than the Evoque and Discovery Sport
so Range Rover Sport, Discovery and even Defender that you see behind me and it's badge is a D300.
This inline six four litre diesel suits the Velar really well it's super smooth and you get a lot
more performance than the four-cylinder D200 but not a lot less efficiency. 6.1 seconds to 60 is a
headline figure for acceleration and you can get over 38 miles per gallon in the WLTP cycle
and that stands for Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Testing Procedure. Took a few takes that
and I think the performance and refinement benefits of this D300 engine are especially
noticeable on motorway because this powertrain has more torque than any other engine available
on the Velar. Next up six-cylinder petrol P400 headlines 400 horsepower 5.2 seconds to 60 100
horsepower more than the three litre diesel loads of power great refinement what's not to like
ignore the economy. I was joking though you should see over 25 miles per gallon so it's pretty frugal
Interestingly the Velar is the only model to use this engine in the JLR line-up the inline
six three litre petrol has been taken away from the Discovery, the Range Rover Spore, Defender
and the Range Rover and even with its more sporty brother the Jaguar F-Pace being discontinued as
Jaguar Go Electric in 2026. Big USP that for the Velar. So back to the plug-in hybrid quickest
model in the Velar line-up similar setup to the Defender two litre four-cylinder petrol under the
with a 19 kilowatt hour battery just under the boot floor AC and direct current so you can charge it
pretty quickly too over 400 horsepower just over five seconds to 60. Headlines are just over 39
miles of electric range and just under 50 grams per kilometer of CO2 great for company car drivers
too. The only limitations is that you can't have 22 inch wheels full size spare wheel in the boot
or a temporary size you can't have a tow bar and the only visual clue is you have two flaps
one on either side petrol side is pressurized so you have to make sure you remember to press a
button. So in this video I've already shown you the colors so you might have spotted some different
wheel styles the 26 model year there's 11 different options so quite a bit of choice
here you have the 21 inch diamond turned alloy wheels which are also available in gloss black
and for those who like a dark alloy wheel but perhaps a bit more protective of the alloys
worried about getting curb might prefer a slightly softer ride or even taking the velar off
road 20 inch wheels available again gloss black or a satin dark grey but the most attractive wheel
option on the velar by quite a distance if you can quite stretch to it the stylish 22 inch gloss
black alloys again introduced to the range by the all new Range Rover and added to the velar lineup
for that 24 model year this clean 10 spoke design really adds a lot of presence to the car and also
to make sure the ride quality doesn't suffer by having more alloy and less tire the dynamic
handling pack is standardized to give you the air suspension which I spoke about earlier and if you
like this design but not keen on the gloss black element Land Rover have you covered because here
is the same styled alloy albeit in 23 inch here on the Range Rover with the gloss dark grey and
contrast diamond turn finish you see two examples here so you can see both back to back due to some
of these spec changes that I've mentioned earlier on in this video to simplify as well as add value
or to the skeptic force you to buy options that you wouldn't buy separately you now have the
option of eight packs to buy I think I've remembered them black exterior styling pack
driver assist pack dynamic handling pack cold climate pack extreme cold climate pack towing
pack technology pack and comfort pack I think that's all of them let me tell you what each one
gives you so the first two I'm going to start with are the dynamic handling pack which gives
you the electronic air suspension that I showed you earlier as well as the configurable and
adaptive dynamics and then you also have the driver assist pack which gives you blind spot
assist as well as adaptive cruise control with steering assist and rear traffic monitor
the other six so I'm struggling to count here they're inside let me show you okay so I've
probably got that wrong for the remaining six packs you probably benefit from the inside
which neatly leads me on to cold climate pack that gives you heated and cooled front seats as
well as headlight power wash and heated rear seats so that's the outer two not the middle
which you can operate via the centralized touchscreen and also two buttons here behind
the center console and then you have extreme cold climate pack which gives you all of that as well
as cabin pre-conditioning which allows you to preset the car to a specific temperature
for anything up to 16 days in advance so again just imagine those cold mornings rather than
getting in a cold car getting the scraper out you can go on your Land Rover InControl app and
preset it let's go through the other two in the front if you had it you'd notice the technology
pack which gives you head-up display which beams information onto the windscreen or vital
information Land Rover would see it so that's current speed that you're doing traffic sign
recognition so the speed that you should be doing mp3 or media information so that would be changing
track or radio station also gives you telephone information so if somebody's going to be calling
you it will show their name there as well there's off-roading functions as well and if you put it
in sports mode it even has a little red counter so quite cool and then you also have park assist
where the car will take care of the steering part of the parking maneuver after identifying a space
you still need to watch out and make sure you manage the speed via the pedals but yeah if you
struggle with parking in and around London or any major city something like that would be quite
important for you so just come on the other side I'll just run through a couple of other things
for you or the final pack or one of the final interior packs anyway okay hold up there's probably
two key oversights I forgot to mention in that clip so the whole idea of head-up display really
is to make sure that it diverts your attention from the dashboard in the infotainment screen
to the windscreen i.e looking in front and unfortunately the b-roll that I used wasn't
very clear I don't know why the phone doesn't pick out very well but again it's really important
again turn by turn navigation is something I didn't mention either so rather than having to
look here to see where you're going to be turning left or right everything comes up here and again
if your attention is diverted here to the windscreen you're going to be looking in front
it's safer so yeah go back on the other side and now on this side I'm going to run for the comfort
packs which gives you five options firstly is a solar attenuating windscreen which filters sunlight
to reduce heat in the cabin and also the sun's harmful uv rays again I'm not sure if we're going
to get too much of that in this country and secondly land of acclaim it reduces vibrations
and noise in the cabin so hopefully makes it more refined secondly is a configurable cabin
configurable ambient lighting which gives you 30 colors which is quite impressive I once drove
I think it was in 2020 a cls 350d I think it was and I was really impressed by sort of the
huge led strip allowed me to change the colors again that's sort of come across many cars but
in the velar door pockets center console looks really nice so you can change that
and then hence the reason I've moved the camera you have the lockable but cooled glove box not
really sure you can put in there because yeah there's no fridge or anything available in the
velar it's only on the larger product and then you have the four zone climate control which allows
you to change obviously temperature here here and two in the back so you won't be arguing over what
and if anybody watching this is familiar with cabin air purification plus yes something similar
if you have a dyson at home with like a filtration device I've got one in my flat and yeah what it
landed actually claimed it kills coronavirus um yeah that was five years ago this month by the
way so yeah time flies so yeah that's your comfort pack let's go over the black exterior
styling pack shall we so the black exterior styling pack updated for 26 model year you would
have seen previously in this video the shirenti gray and the carpathian gray examples so you've
got a gauge of what it looks like the different colors here we have zadar gray without the black
exterior styling pack and the key update for 26 model year is it now incorporates the black painted
brake calipers so it's either unpainted or black painted the red calipers which were previously
standard and autobiography are no longer there um again key things like you would have seen
bonnet vents side fenders grill grill surround tailgate and bonnet lettering lower air intakes
and the lower blade pinstripe took me right to the end of this video to remember what those were
so again I think it quite works quite well with a lighter color so you can see the contrast and
also get a black contrast roof which is another cost option yeah that is what the black exterior
styling pack gives you and finally you have the towing pack and unfortunately I don't have a
velar here to show you I can demonstrate on its bigger brother the range rover those who have
watched my defender video watch out mate those who have watched my defender video might remember
um there's no detachable tow bar available on the velar so it's only deployable press a button here
and after quite a lot of loud beeping and squealing as well hopefully the microphone
get rid of those noises it will come out and again really handy for uh really handy for
fitting of accessories so bike racks and things like that but you also get advanced tow assist
and not only does that help stabilize whatever it is you're towing whether it's a boat or a
caravan or whatever it might be also helps when you're reversing as well to make sure that you
get that all correctly so I'm no expert in towing at all whatsoever so again something like that
would be really handy for me if I want to do anything other than carry a bike rack so yeah
really handy and you press a button some people even leave it out for things like parking just
to stop people hitting into the back of them but yeah press it comes with electrics as well so if
you have a board there it will it will also work those are the packs so there we have it your 26
model year ranger velar summary lots of information for you to digest thanks for watching if you've
made it this far here's my playlist for some of my previous land rover videos make sure you share
this with anyone you know looking at velar and comment and if you think if there's any
information missing plenty more to come see you next time
