Deploy AI Agents for Free: OpenClaw in Codespaces with Gemini, Codex & Tailscale

In this tutorial, we set up OpenClaw in a free or low-cost cloud development environment using GitHub Codespaces. Instead of starting with a full cloud VM, we use Codespaces as the runtime environment, install OpenClaw inside it, and explore several practical model access options, including Gemini Free Tier, Google AI Pro Gemini API credit, and ChatGPT Plus / Codex-based access when supported.

We also configure the OpenClaw gateway, open the dashboard, troubleshoot remote access, and install Tailscale to create a stable private access path to the OpenClaw dashboard. Finally, we use Tailscale Serve to map the OpenClaw dashboard port to a private HTTPS URL inside our tailnet.

This video serves as a beginner-friendly foundation for moving into more advanced OpenClaw workflows with n8n, APIs, Neo4j GraphRAG, MCP servers, and automation agents.
