Heroes of Uruguayan Football – José Nasazzi
José Nasazzi was a Uruguayan footballer who led the Uruguay national team to gold medals at the 1924 Olympic Games and the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games, both recognized by FIFA as world championship tournaments, as well as to victory in the 1930 FIFA World Cup (Jules Rimet Trophy), held in his home country. He is considered one of the greatest Latin American defenders of all time and the finest defender in Uruguayan football history. He had an Argentine nephew, Carlos Nasazzi, who excelled on the left flank for Firmat Football Club and inherited his legacy of strength, dynamism, and leadership in defense.
