The Unfinished Obelisk Of Aawan Was Re-Measured - The Quarry Marks Reveal a Bigger Mystery
Lying abandoned in a granite quarry in Aswan, Egypt, the Unfinished Obelisk would have stood 137 feet tall and weighed nearly 1,200 tons — the largest stone object ever attempted by human hands. It was abandoned, seemingly mid-cut, and no one fully understands why. New measurements and analysis of the quarry marks surrounding it have deepened the puzzle. The tool marks don't match any known Egyptian implement. The cutting geometry suggests the workers weren't chiseling — they were somehow separating granite cleanly, in ways that imply either a lost abrasive technique or something more precise entirely. The obelisk was never finished. The method that began it remains, stubbornly, unknown.
