Blue Whale Waves Hello, Humpbacks Breach, and Sperm Whales Dazzle at Sunset in San Diego
May 26, 2026
An extraordinary sighting aboard Gone Whale Watching in San Diego kicks off "Eyes Above the Whales" episode 4!
Blue whales are not known for their surface behaviors, but the more time we spend with them, the more they reveal their very dynamic personalities! Our extended blue whale search trips began on Friday, and so far Captain Jess has connected on both of her tours, and Captain Michael found this pair for both of our boats yesterday!
It’s been a fun and interesting couple of months here in San Diego. In April there was so much krill we assumed the blue whale season would begin early like it did in 2024, but then suddenly in May we’ve had a robust influx of anchovies and humpback whales! That’s the beautiful thing about nature, as you never know what can happen! Captain Caitlyn connected with a blue whale on yesterday’s 11am 2.5 hour trip aboard Hana Hou as well(after a week of countless humpback sightings on those trips), so we are fully prepared for anything!
