Today I'm visiting another church from my childhood. This one is really creepy. About
one mile down the road is the Baptist Chapel that I filmed in episode 2. This whole area
is fairly remote. So me and my mate would often visit that one first then come here.
The difference was we knew this one was a church. Back in the 80s and 90s these churches were
always open. Unlike today where this church which still has occasional services would always be
locked. Today I managed to get in. When we would come up here it was always quiet. We never saw
any people. The church is hidden away from the road and the nearby village is tiny with a
population of around 100. I don't remember this graveyard ever being well kept. A bit like it is
today and what makes this church so unique is that it has been basically untouched since the
middle ages. It lacks electricity and water and still to this day is lit by candles. Its stillness
has led it to be called a thin place as one feels closer to God here. Now I know that children have
big imaginations and you can see why as a kid you would find this place scary especially ventured
inside. However I like to think this is because when you're young you are much more open-minded
and in fact your senses are much more aligned with the supernatural and you'd nearly always
listen to your gut. As adults this sense gets beaten out of you although there are some of us
who are still dialed into it. Let's go inside now and I'll show you some info about this church
as we view it through the eyes of a child.
I hope you enjoyed looking around this remarkable church
and watching it in black and white hopefully gave you more of a childlike sense.
A big shout out to the church warden who came and opened up for me. I hadn't been inside for
nearly 40 years and didn't know any of the history. Visiting as an adult is totally different. We used
to love being scared as kids and daring each other to do stupid things. I must have been a
lot braver back then. I have many more stories to tell about these old churches and my actual
ghostly experiences in them so please stay tuned for future episodes.
