Anne Cotterill was born and educated in Scotland and attended Edinburgh College of Art when Sir William Gillies was Head of Painting. She was awarded postgraduate travelling scholarships which enabled her to study for two years in Europe and train in Paris. In the 1960s she moved to the West Country where she and her husband settled and raised a family. Anne Cotterill drew inspiration from the seasonal flowers growing in and around her garden, and in the surrounding countryside of her Somerset home. She was a diligent and prolific painter, working for many hours each day to capture the fleeting beauty of the flowers before her.

Anne Cotterill’s original oil paintings are keenly sought by collectors and enthusiasts and she is widely acknowledged as one of the leading flower artists of her generation. Her paintings have both charm and delicacy whilst making full use of the intense, vibrant colours of the oil paint.
