Hi everyone, so today I'm going to show you how to plant flowers in a plant pot.
Now it sounds really easy, but actually when you're starting gardening, especially me, I had no idea where to start with any of this.
So I thought it would be a good video to film. So I hope you like it and let's just start.
So the first thing you want to do is pick a plant pot. Now obviously it would be better if you didn't have a plastic one, but this is the one that I'm using today.
And it's just in this terracotta shape, which is quite nice.
So when you pick your plant pot, make sure it has some drainage holes just so that the water has somewhere to go when you plant your flowers so that they live.
You can use other things as plant pots. You can use lots of different kind of household objects.
But that's a completely different video, so I'm not going to go too much into that today.
But yeah, this is just a very basic one. You can get one of these plant pots from anywhere really.
Next thing you need is a little bit of like crockery.
If you had one of those terracotta plant pots and they broke, you could use these pieces and just put them in the bottom of your plant pot.
You can use anything with a little bit of texture just to add that texture to the bottom of your plant pot.
And this just helps the water kind of filter out better.
So I'm just going to start by putting a few of these pieces in the bottom and then putting some compost in and then putting a few more pieces in just to really help the drainage of the water from the plants.
So when you've filled your plant pot about three quarters of the way up with some compost, now is a good time to think about what sort of flowers you want in there.
So a good idea is to put the taller plants at the back and then maybe put the medium one just sort of in front of that and then the smaller one kind of here.
I always think that looks really nice. It's a very easy rule to follow when you're planting in your plant pot.
First plant and kind of put it in your plant pot just to see whereabouts it's going to sit and how much more compost you need.
So with this, I know I'm going to need quite a bit more compost to get this to sit nicely so that it's kind of at the same level as a plant pot.
We're not losing half of the plants inside of the pot.
Before I put this plant in, I'm just going to put a little bit of water on it just so it feeds a little bit and so that it's easier for us to take out of the plant pot.
So when you're taking your plant out of its original pot, you want to tip your plant upside down so you're ready to catch it when it falls out of the plant pot and just squeeze the pot slightly.
You don't want to pull at these stems, otherwise it can break them and ruin the plant.
Now I'm just going to make a hole in this and put it inside.
So when you finish planting, it should look something similar to this.
It's always nice to pick maybe similar tones or two tones, so whites with purples or whites with blues, or you could have different shades of blues.
You can really be quite creative with your designs.
But once you've put all of them in, just make sure to water them regularly.
The best thing to do when watering your plant pot is to actually water the soil and not focus on watering the actual flowers too much.
Just because when you water the soil, it goes in better and they take more water that way.
So I hope you enjoyed this video. Please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you did like it for more videos like this.
And yeah, I'll speak to you all again very, very soon. Bye guys.
