So breaking some sad news out of the Trump administration today as the director of
national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard she's resigned announcing that her husband was
diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. President Trump reacted to her decision on
true social sin in part quote unfortunately after having done a great job Tulsi Gabbard
will be leaving the administration on June the 30th before adding that she has done
an incredible job and will be missed. Here now with the latest our very own Christina
Coleman. Christina how are you doing? Hi Lawrence yeah yes doing well and you know yes lots of
breaking news here today. Tulsi Gabbard announced she's stepping down from her role overseeing the
coordination of 18 intelligence agencies next month on June 30th to be by her husband's side
as he finds a rare form of bone cancer. Gabbard says he faces major challenges in the coming
weeks and months. She shared the letter she sent to the president stating that her husband Abraham
has been her rock through 11 years of marriage. She says she can't in good conscious asking to
fight this alone while she continues her demanding and time-consuming position.
President Trump responded saying quote she rightfully wants to be with him bringing him
back to good health as they currently fight a tough battle together. He says I have no doubt
he will soon be better than ever. Tulsi has done an incredible job and we will miss her.
Gabbard is the fourth Trump cabinet official to leave during Trump's second term in office
as president. The veteran and former Democratic congresswoman representing Hawaii who also ran
for president differed from Trump on Iran's nuclear program. She testified that it was
his decision to strike Iran not hers. Trump said her stance was quote softer about Iran
having a nuclear weapon but again both she and the president say she's resigning to help her
husband. They didn't state anything about having any odds or being at odds over foreign policy
regarding her resignation. Now after Gabbard leaves the current principal deputy director
of national intelligence Aaron Lucas will step in and serve as the acting director of
national intelligence. He will be filling that role Lawrence. A country with distinction first
in the military now in the administration putting country over party as well was once a Democrat.
Christina thank you so much for that report.
