He highlights the product's ability to remove decades of grime and oils without the need for abrasive materials, showcasing a dramatic visual transformation of the wood and confirming the clock's mechanical functionality.
Hello, this is the Clock Guy.
I have a nice Seth Thomas today that I'm working on.
I'd like to say it's on the bench.
It's actually on the dining room table.
I generally like to make videos about clocks.
Certain clocks that I really enjoy that I think you would enjoy also.
And I also once in a while like to make videos about my best friend,
Howard.
Howard's restored finish is...
I'm speechless.
There's no words for it.
It's just a miracle in a can.
You can see it's pretty dingy.
I mean, I've seen a lot worse.
That's one of the reasons I like this clock.
It is in good shape.
But after 120 years, it looks like it's dusty.
It's actually... I've already wiped it.
This is the oils from the smoke and people.
Especially in kitchens.
They're like kitchen clocks.
That's what we're doing here.
We'll give Howard a little shake.
I don't use the neutral that often.
Because I like to have the tint to fill in any cracks.
But another reason I want to use the neutral is...
There's no scratches on this.
So there's really nothing that has to be filled with color.
And there's different colored woods.
So I don't want to darken the lighter colored woods.
Maples or birch or ash.
Now you're thinking, wow, that's a miracle.
But wait until it dries, right?
Well, that's what it looks like when it dries.
That's the difference between Howard's and every other product I have used in my long career.
I've been woodworking my whole adult life.
In different degrees.
Taking apart an old radio.
Or fixing something for my mother or father.
But I have...
Because I love wood.
I love making it shiny.
The Howard's breaks up that.
You can see, that is what it will look like.
There's where I stopped.
Isn't that amazing?
Now you have to think to yourself.
Why would you ever use anything else?
Because I often think that to myself.
I have absolutely no use for any other product.
Except Howard's Restore Finish.
It really is amazing.
I can't tell you how many different things I've whipped this on.
Many of the things are in the back.
There.
I even did one of the squares in this parquet floor.
And I can see it right there.
We were going to have the floors refinished.
And I thought, let me see what Howard's does.
I did one square ten feet from me over here.
And it still looks amazing.
Compared to the whole rest of the floor.
Do you see the difference?
It's also not that bad on your fingers.
Like varnish or stain.
It's just amazing, isn't it?
And I don't get anything from Howard.
I don't get endorsements or money or whatever they are called.
I get the use of an amazing product.
So it's an unbiased endorsement of something that I have found.
There's a really thick section of buildup right there.
I had to rub it a couple of times.
As the Howard's soaks into whatever is on here, it softens it.
I know a lot of woodworkers would use very fine steel wool or something to get this off.
But I really dislike taking any kind of abrasive product to wood and finishes that are this old.
Because you really never know what you're going to get.
You start brushing it with some really fine sandpaper or some really fine steel wool.
And the next thing you know, you have swirls.
And they just don't want to come off.
And then by the time you finally get them off, you don't have any finish left.
And then where are you?
Instead you wipe on, wipe off.
To be confused with wax on, wax off.
Wipe off any excess.
This is pretty much what this will look like.
Isn't that amazing?
So you're thinking, you're going to camp, aren't you?
Now I will get back to finishing the clock.
Okay, so this is the back.
We will open up the back door and see the movement running smoothly.
Make sure it's chiming correctly.
It chimes on the bell for the half hour.
It chimes on the gong for the hour.
Three o'clock, thirty, set for another hundred years of running.
There it is from the back.
And I want to show you, just so you know,
I told you that when I polished the clock with Howard's,
pretty much what it's going to look like.
This is almost a week later.
It's just been sitting.
It has not been repolished.
It's just me putting it up on my mantel.
I'm going to show you what it looks like.
The Howard's is truly a miracle in a can.
I'm sure you would agree.
There we have it.
Seth Thomas Mantel Clock.
This is the clock guy saying thanks for watching.
