Our First Christmas as a Married Couple | Tree Shopping, Decorating, & Secret Santa Chaos

Halloween's over. It's the Christmas season. We need to get on it. Because we don't want the perfect tree to sell out. What is your requirements for a perfect tree? I want a nice green tree. That shouldn't be too hard. It has to be perfect. It's gotta be a good shape. Triangle but not too triangle, you know? And also not not triangle enough. Yes. Oh and my other requirement is they have trees that are pre-lit and I hate the lights. Jewel tone. Oh I'm really looking for some pastel or like lighter colors. There has to be pink in there. Oh and we gotta find a Christmas decoration. I was okay. Okay let's go. Look at all the decorations. Oh is this a s'more? Oh yeah it is. That's cute. I'll tell you what, we're going for a very specific theme. It's called pastel and unfortunately I don't think any of this will work. Well I don't think every decoration has to be pastel. Yeah. No. Yes. I don't know why I love these. I love the little mouse people made out of wool. Katie that's what we need. Is that a thing that happens a lot? I just I've seen these like a few years ago. I don't know if it's like popular but we need a mouse person. We're gonna need a big tree. Oh these are all gold. See I don't know if we want to do like pastel and gold. That might be nice. Wow. However I'm always like they were not dense at all and they were wanting like hundreds of dollars for these trees. Some of them are so expensive. But there's a sale on the one that we like anyway so. And that one looks nice and full. It's the fullest I would say. But now we're gonna go to Walmart. See what they have to offer. Hmm wherever could the tree be? Oh we found more friends. Well bigger is always better. Maybe it'd be too tall though. Might hit the roof. Oh actually that's true. I think we'll have to maybe see how far it is to the top. So the situation is that there's no trees out. So we can't tell. Yeah I wish there were some trees out here. There's one that looks good from the box and it's a lot cheaper. But like you can't see how full it is. Plus they have a lot of other good things that we're gonna get. They got a lot of things. We're gonna get some decorations. I found the tree Katie. It's only 12.98. Charlie Brown. Yeah we found it. Better yet this little one. Probably a lot cheaper. Katie's in Swan Lake. She's having a hard time finding the perfect one. Okay the perfect duck. Such a perfectionist. That is a lot to choose from Katie. Walmart was a success. We got a lot of stuff. Not a success for the bank account but a success in many other ways because it's the first Christmas. Anyway we couldn't see the Christmas trees. So it's like how can you buy a tree you can't see. So we're just gonna risk it for the biscuit and get the expensive one. Yeah we're gonna keep it forever. We're gonna bite the bullet. Let's go get that tree. We're gonna go with the one that we liked originally. And Jay found that you could spread the branches out more. So we can even make it look more full than this. Just worried about storing this big box. Where we can put this box but that's a problem for after Christmas. Oops. Now that's my man. We got the Christmas tree. What I always dream to see. I don't want to have to imagine. It's Christmas Eve Eve and we're finally putting up our tree. It's just been so crazy we haven't had time to put it up and so Christmas Eve Eve is the day. It's really not feeling Christmas Eve this year because there's no snow. Usually we always have snow around this time. Last year we went to Candy Cane Lane and we froze our booties off and I said I'm never going back. But this year we could have walked with a light jacket. Honestly, maybe we should just go. So we made hot chocolate and we got these cookies which I'm so excited about because my nanny used to get me cookies like this. We've been waiting so long to open them. Time to eat them and make the tree. We got turtle's hot chocolate. It's supposed to be caramel-y. I'm gonna burn myself, I can tell. It's good. You don't like it? I don't know about it, but I really want to try these cookies. Much better. Mmm. Okay. Now we're gonna make the tree. Time to build the tree. We gotta make this the plumpest tree there ever was. If it ain't plump, it ain't mine. Candy, this is our first year doing this. I know, it's so fun. Plump it real good. What did I say? If it ain't plump, it ain't mine. We got these lights as well because I really wanted some pretty light, pastel-y colors. So it's pink, green, purple, blue, and yellow. And honestly, they look kind of like Easter lights, which I love. So it's totally fine that it's just white because it'll look good. I guess it's a good thing we did buy this. And they look like little gems. See? How fun. And they're diamonds. How are you going to want to do this? Oh, can they plug into each other? Yeah! Yeah, yeah, yeah! These lights really have to sell it. Oh, this is so exciting! This is so exciting, our first Christmas. Here's the tree with the pastel ones, which it looks pretty cute in real life. On camera, I don't think it'll pick up. I think if it's dark, you'll be able to tell more of a difference between them. But I think it looks really cute. It just looks like a little touch of color, and I like how they're the little diamond-y shape. So here's the decorations that we got. We started off wanting a little Candyland tree, like an ice cream tree, because we saw one at the Christmas tree festival last year. And then we also just saw these little cutie ones. This is Jay, and this is me. And I really like this because my nanny had these little deers. Katie, don't forget the best one. The Christmas duck. And our sugarplum fairy. And our big old butterfly, because we had butterflies all at our wedding. There's a lot of tree, and just a little bit of decorations. We're gonna have to space them out quite a lot. Yeah, I think so. I'm winking. By the way, is this looking plump or what? I think it's looking plump. I call it mine. You call it yours? Good. I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas, just like the ones I always wanted. Where the presents are pink, and I can wear pink, and everywhere you look there's more pink. I had to go to work after we finished the tree, and I was planning to come home to wrap Jay's presents, and I was just going to do some nice B-roll of wrapping presents, but oh my goodness, the craziest thing happened to me today at work, and so I'm going to tell you about that instead. If you don't know, I have a few jobs. I'm a teacher. I teach online. I also teach on-call as well in person, but because my online job is new, and on-call work can be kind of hit and miss, I also have a job. It's the first job I ever had. I work at a very fancy family restaurant of sorts, which may or may not have a drive-through. It's a job that put me through university, and because on-call work is kind of hit and miss sometimes, I just wanted to wait until I had a full-time position before I'm able to leave that job. I like to live life safely, and so I still work at this job. I've worked at it for about 12 years now. Anyway, today this thing that happened, it's like, what are the chances? It's literally so slim. Basically, at my job, I'm never, ever, ever working up front. I always work in the back, but today I had to work on the window because, you know, it's Christmas time and we don't have the stuff that we would normally have because people have to book time off. So basically, I was on window all night, which I'm not a fan of, and I turn to this guy for his order, and I look at him, and I recognize him, but I wasn't sure from where at first, and then I turned to ask him if he wanted lids, and it clicked in my head of where I knew him from, but it didn't make any sense. Like, in what world would I be seeing this person because I know them from the internet? I got a better look at his face. Oh my gosh. This guy looks exactly like Mia Maple's husband. It makes absolutely no sense, but I was like, it's gotta be Stuart. And then I looked in the back window. Obviously I couldn't see in it fully because it was kind of tinted, but I could make out the face of, like, Mia's dad, and I was like, it can't be. Like, why would they be here? Because I live in B.C., and they live in Alberta. They have pulled up a little bit further past where I was standing, and so I couldn't see who was sitting beside him. And I don't know what came over me because I'm a very shy girl, but I went to, like, hand him out some food, I think, and I was like, I'm sorry, are you Mia's family? And then out from around his shoulder, Mia just peeks her head out and she's like, hi! Lo and behold, there's Mia Maples in my drive-thru? What are the chances? I was just, like, so shocked because I was, like, trying to understand how I was actually seeing them in front of my face. Talk about high-definition 4K, you know? And I was like, oh my gosh, hi! Like, I love your videos. Again, I don't know what came over me because I'm a very shy person, and I am terrible with small talk and conversation with people, but I don't know, I guess, like, maybe I felt like I knew her. And I was just like, so you guys are from, like, Alberta, right? And they were like, yeah. And I was like, what are you doing here? I was just so excited and, like, shocked to see them. She was just like, oh, yeah, we have family that lives out here so we are just visiting for the holidays. And I was like, are you kidding me? Me? Mia Maples has family in my own city? It's wild. It's honestly wild because it's literally so slim of chance that this would have happened. I was just trying to think of, like, something to say, and so she just got her hair done, like, changed by Brad Mondo. I don't know if you know who he is. And I was like, by the way, I love what Brad did with your hair. And she was just, like, laughing. It was just kind of funny. And then I was just so frazzled because I not me casually dropping all this information I know about them. I don't know. Hopefully, I just came off as friendly and not, like, a weirdo who, like, knows all these random facts about her. But anyway, they had to leave, obviously. So I was just like, oh, well, Merry Christmas. Like, goodbye. It was great to meet you or whatever. But before they left, Mia, like, she looked at me. She's like, wait. She's like, what was your name? And she was like, Katie. It's great to meet you. And it was just, like, so... You can just tell that she has a good heart. She always just tries to help out different causes and stuff. Like, I've seen her help out more charities and stuff than anyone ever that I watch on YouTube. And it's just so crazy to, like, you know, see someone that I've watched for quite a while in real life, like, so randomly at work. My regret is... I just want to know if Mama Maples was in the back seat as well. Because I just loved her relationship with each other. So it's just so positive, you know? And it's just so sweet. Mama Maples has a heart of gold, so... Anyway, I just can't believe it. And I just don't know what came over me that I was so outgoing. And then after that, I just could not focus on my job. And I probably messed up about every single other person's order. And then I had to count the money at the end of the night. And I was like, girl, like, this is all wrong. I could not focus on anything. And I called Jay before I went home. Because I just needed to tell someone. Like, I didn't think anyone that I worked with would have watched our videos. So I called Jay, like, immediately and I told him the whole story. And then when I got home from work late because I could not focus on anything, I told him the whole story again. And now I'm filming myself behind this door so that I don't forget. Yeah, it was just so cool. And who knows? Maybe me and Mia will be real best friends someday. Probably not, but we already are. What am I saying? And I mean, honestly, OkFamous, Mia, can't even go through a drive-thru without being recognized. So crazy. So yeah, that's my story time. I thought that was pretty cool.
