The journey spans from vibrant street food hubs and traditional kopitiam breakfasts to luxury mall food courts and scenic riverside dining, showcasing the diverse flavors of Thai cuisine while navigating the city during a major national holiday.
They have so many choices. Wow, there's like an explosion of flavors.
This is like the ultimate toast. Oh man, just melts in your mouth. Spicy.
It's simple, it's classic and it tastes good. It's been about two years since our last trip
to the capital and this time we'll also be celebrating Songkran for the very first time.
Of course Bangkok is also a food paradise and we aren't about to miss the chance to
eat as much as humanly possible. To make it interesting, we gave ourselves a bit of a
challenge. We have to hit at least 10 different food spots we've never tried before in just three
days. Welcome to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Bangkok.
We are back in Bangkok. We just arrived at a hotel in Bangkok.
And we're not going to waste any time. We're going to head out for supper. Let's go. Let's go.
Alright, our first meal here in Bangkok. We're at Heng Hoi Tod. This place is famous for their
oyster omelette and we've got here the crispy and soft oyster omelette. It's beautifully plated.
It smells heavenly. It's this nice golden crispy and just look how beautiful and
thinly fried it is. We're gonna get some oyster and this omelette. Cheers guys.
It's full of oyster goodness. I really like the soft part of the omelette. Beautifully fried.
The oyster is juicy and plump. It's not as huge as the one we had before but I love this as much.
They've got a bottle of like a special chilli sauce and they asked us to pair it with the
oyster omelette. Let's try this out. Nice. It's a little bit tangy. It does have a little kick of
spice in there. It's almost like a chilli barbecue sauce-ish. It pairs well. Of course, the oyster
omelette is just a side. I've also ordered pad thai and it looks really promising. I've ordered
the one with two prawns and there's two huge ones here on top. Nicely fried. It's like some little
shrimps too. Gonna mix it. Throw on some bean sprouts. Squeeze on some lime. Now let's dig in.
We love the flavor. There's a lot of the wok hei. Well seasoned. Let's try the prawn.
Look how huge the prawn is. There's this nice golden crispy just like the oyster.
Prawn is fresh. It's a good pad thai. I have also ordered khao kha moo which is braised pork
with rice. I ordered the pork knuckles but it comes with the pickled mustard greens. They have
some sauce at the bottom. It also comes with garlic and chilli. Let me just pour it in.
It also has a chilli sauce. I'm not sure if this is extra sauce or broth. It's definitely extra
sauce with some peanuts in it. Very fragrant. Put some chilli on it. Oh my god. That's so good.
The pork literally just melts in my mouth. So soft. Very tender. A little bit herbally. It's a perfect
comfort meal and I would say also perfect for supper. As always every time we come to Bangkok
we have to have orange juice. Shake it well. Seriously nothing beats fresh oranges in Bangkok.
So fragrant too. So far so good and this is just the first meal. Can't wait to go to the next one.
This street is called Ban Tat Tong. Most of the shops are still open even at this hour
and there's lots of people and it's already midnight. This road is... by the way this is
actually nearby a university campus so it kind of explains why there's a young crowd over here.
Right let's go explore some more.
There's always room for dessert. Before the ice cream melts what do we get?
We've got the pandan custard toast with coconut milk ice cream. Oh look at it. It's so cute. It's
so pretty. I don't know how I'm gonna eat this. Oh look at that. So much custard on it. I'm gonna
get some of the ice cream. Smelting. I just love the toast. It's soft. The outer layer is slightly
crispy but it's fillowy and the coconut ice cream is so fragrant, so aromatic. There's just little
crispy bits and oh my god the pandan custard. So creamy, so flavourful, not overly sweet. I love
how generous amount of the custard they gave and it tastes amazing. This is like the ultimate toast.
They also have their very own in-house bakery just right behind. We notice there's a lot of
locals here. This is one of the best sellers. I totally recommend it. So good. All right guys
we're gonna finish up and we're definitely gonna call it a night. See you guys tomorrow morning.
Actually see you guys in a few hours. In a few hours we are gonna have breakfast. Yep.
Good morning guys. It's day two. It's been probably
eight hours and we're out eating again. We're here for breakfast at Kuey Chap Mr Joe.
The shop actually looks small from the front but once we walk to the back
it's huge. We have ordered the kuey chap and this is the clear soup pepper kuey chap.
I would say the portion is not huge. It's quite a generous amount of ingredients in here.
Very assorted. We have all the pork offals and the crispy pork belly which I don't think is
crispy anymore and the solution is to order a separate plate of crispy pork belly on the side.
It smells a little bit peppery. I'm gonna try the broth. Very savoury, very umami. Not overly
peppery but you are able to like add as much pepper as you want. Very well balanced but the
flavour is very rich. Kind of bit towards the salty side. The rice rolls. Very soft and silky. It's a
bit hard to grab because it's so slippery. Cheers. So rich in flavour. The pork belly. Oh my god.
There's still a little bit of crisp in there. I'm surprised. I would say this is probably one of the
best kuey chap I've ever had. I love how silky the noodles are. Try a little bit of chilli maybe.
Maybe just a bit. Spicy. I'm glad I just put a little tiny bit and it's still burning. Oh my.
Where's our orange juice? Okay now try the pork belly. Pork belly comes with this dipping sauce.
Let's give this a try. Nice and crispy. Not overly salty. Very nicely seasoned. Love the crispy
goodness. It goes well with the sweet sauce. I like the sweet sauce. So as usual we got orange
juice again. This is 80 baht for this bottle but it's a big bottle and it's apparently cold-pressed
orange juice. Fancy. So good. So far we have three spots, seven more to go.
We are at our next destination. This is Song Wat Road. It's kind of trending right now.
I can see why. It's a very nice rustic vibe. Very artistic. Quite a lot of local spots.
So this is actually one of the hottest seasons here in Bangkok and I can already start to feel
the heat. Yeah I'm sweating. Okay we're now at Wan Chai House. This place serves mango sticky
rice for over 45 years. Love the vibes. It's very rustic. They even have a retro video game console.
It actually works. We're going to play later right after this. We definitely have to get
ourselves some dessert. The cooling dessert to get out from the heat. So we've got ourselves
mango sticky rice of course, mango spoody and O Lian which is spiced coffee. I got it with
really slight sugar. Let's try this out. This is aromatic. Just enough sugar to make it flavorful.
So good. The coffee is so fragrant. This is really good. This is the medium size. They have a small
medium and large. It's probably enough for one and a half person. Large is for two people.
It has a generous amount of mango. All right let's try this out. Cheers.
Mango is so sweet and soft. Very juicy and the rice very well cooked. It can never go
wrong with mango sticky rice and this is definitely one of the good ones in Bangkok.
This is the mango smoothie. I feel like most every country that I go to I'll order mango smoothie.
Best way to pair with your mango sticky rice with more mango.
Okay I think we're done exploring Song Wat. There are lots of cafes,
arts and crafts. Very cute place. Actually it's getting crowded. So we're going to go
make a move and head on to the next spot. I'm glad this boat is air-conditioned. What a relief.
I think it's best to just stay indoors for the entire afternoon and then we head out for lunch
later. I mean this is nice. Get some sightseeing and take in the AC. It's quite comfy. It is.
That was definitely too short. I think we reached in less than five minutes. It's a great way to
get around but I really love the boat. It looks like the party has already started here in Aikon
Siam. You can see all the tents, people wearing Hawaiian shirts. I think there's an event going on.
It looks really happening here.
By now we've probably been back to this mall every time we visit Bangkok. Is it our favourite?
Maybe. I mean there's a really huge food court at the ground floor designed as a floating market
with lots and lots of food. And also this iconic waterfall at the highest floor. And we found out
that this Starbucks Reserve actually has a bar that serves alcoholic cocktails. Not that.
Alright, there's quite a queue here. Very famous. And it's four o'clock.
It's way after lunchtime but it's still packed.
This is our next spot. We're at Chula 50 Kitchen. It serves crab and seafood at an affordable price.
And this place is popular for its crab curry which I'm excited for. So far visually it looks
stunning. I'm excited to eat. It is a beautiful colour. It is crab loaded. Some spring onion on top
probably for colour. It's eggy. I'm not sure where the curry is. There's no spice. It's a little sweet
but it's very creamy. Tastes a lot like crab omelette but with runny eggs. Apparently I'm
supposed to eat it with the seafood dipping sauce. Definitely a bit more tangy but I don't think it
really changes much of the flavour. I'm going to try out the seafood tom yum. There's quite a lot
of prawns in here. At least six to eight prawns. Alright let's try out the broth.
Pretty creamy. Seafood-y. Not bad. I'm going to try some of the prawns.
Prawns is kind of soft. Actually the prawns were a bit mushy which is not a great sign. To be safe
we decided to just leave them aside. The crab fried rice looks pretty simple. It's like an egg
fried rice with some crab on top of it. The crab meat is definitely nice but the rice is kind of
soggy and mushy. It is still well seasoned and it has some okay. Just that the rice is a bit to the
mushy side. This is a fried yam with salted egg custard in it. It tasted okay and it's probably
worth trying once for the experience. But it's not a must-have for us. Honestly the food we
tried here didn't quite hit the mark for us. But fortunately we still have more food to check out
after this.
Alright we've been walking around and we're at Sancho World and they've already started this
Songkran party early. Look at this. It looks like a really lit concert going on.
We're now at our dinner spot. This is Go Ang Kau Man Kai and we've ordered chicken rice. Not sure
how it's going to taste like compared to the one back in Malaysia. So yeah we're excited to try
this and we also have our friend here. Nick from Nick and Helmy. This is the Hainanese steamed
chicken. It looks nice. Let's give this a go. It's pretty decent chicken rice. I mean it's soft,
tender. I love the skin. Let's give it a try with the dipping sauce. Some chili. It's a little bit
sweet, a little bit spicy but I don't really need the sauce to go with the chicken. The rice looks
nice and fluffy. Yeah it looks oiled and seasoned. The rice is nicely seasoned. It's pretty decent
chicken rice. The chicken is really good. It's soft, tender. It's perfectly cooked. So I wonder
what sauce is this because this is like black with chili and garlic in it. Let's try it with the rice.
Pretty tasty. Very different kind of chili sauce and this tastes a little bit more gingery.
There's like fermented soybeans in it. I think it goes well with the rice. It's really good.
All right let's try the side of broth. Oh very peppery. It's almost like the kway chap
we ate this morning. There's like pork in there. Pork ribs. Oh wow. It's really infused in that
bitter gourd. Very rich bitter taste but if you like bitter gourd this would be really good.
Concentrated bitter gourd flavor. All right we're gonna finish up here. This is our final spot for
today. We'll see you guys tomorrow for more food. Good night guys. All right so we're up here for
breakfast and there's already a queue. They've got a queue card. We're at our breakfast spot. This place
is called On Lok Yuen. It's a very cute classic old-school kind of shop. This has a little bit
of queue downstairs but it's not too long. This place is only open from morning till 2.30 pm.
It's only for breakfast brunch. So we are on the higher floor and every time someone walks, the entire
floor shakes. Our food is here. They serve really quickly. I've got myself just the toppings and
soft boiled eggs. I've also ordered the steamed bread with the egg custard. Looks a little bit
pinkish. Come with complimentary free tea I guess. Yeah steamed. I was wondering where's our calories.
Come with small little forks. It's like a classic American breakfast. Got the ham,
bacon and sausage. I think that's what American breakfast looks like.
Classic breakfast and it's a very cute size. Okay let's dig in.
It's simple, it's classic and it tastes good. I've got myself the soft boiled eggs.
Simple classic breakfast. So good. I've got myself one of the best sellers here. It's the scrambled
eggs with all the toppings. It looks like Chinese sausage, bacon, ham, scrambled eggs and mini
sausages like cocktail sausages. This is like their full recommended set. It has a thumbs up on the
menu. I am quite curious. I think it definitely is Chinese sausage. Chinese sausage. It's a little
bit sweet and savory but yeah I've never had Chinese sausage for breakfast together with eggs
before. Very interesting but yeah it somehow pairs well. Very simple American style breakfast plus a
bit of a Chinese sausage twist. I got myself a coffee with milk. Cheers. Very classic kopitiam
style coffee. Another one of their best sellers here is the steamed bread with egg custard. The
egg custard really looks homemade and the bread is very soft and fluffy. Gonna dip it in. I like
that pink color. Cheers. Egg custard is very aromatic, very tasty. It's not too sweet. It has
a very smooth and creamy texture and the bread pairs really well with the egg custard. The bread
is fluffy but it's a little bit chewy too. This seems like a very light meal and that's perfect
because we're gonna head out for lunch right after this. We have no time to lose. We're gonna head
for lunch. Right next to the breakfast spot is this shopping mall called Old Siam Plaza. I think
we can go in and check it out. It's a really nice mall here. You guys saw how lovely the architecture
here. It looks almost like a train station, like a colonial era. Or a post office. Yeah. So cute. Lots
of local street food. Wow, actually a really nice place. Just had our breakfast. Now it's lunchtime.
It is not far from the breakfast spot earlier. This place is called Khao Keng Mae On. I feel like
this is our first time coming to such a local establishment. Yeah, they have like this English
menu though. We just went ahead and choose from the counter itself, pointing to whatever we feel
like eating. They have so many choices. Very nice local spot. Love the environment. Smells great.
Three dishes per plate. You can go more if you want. There's unlimited. Let's try it out. Let's just dig in.
I've gotten myself green jowl, fish, some crispy pork and a pork curry. Oh, it's spicy. The curries are
very rich. It's so flavorful. Of course, they always have a lime with fish sauce and chilies
to top up if you want more spice. Just a little bit more spice. Just love Khao Keng. It's not overly
rich. You can literally eat this every day because they have so many choices. I don't think you can
run out of choices here. Look at that chunky salted crispy pork. Well fried. Nicely seasoned. So good.
I'm not sure what I got here but Puri has chose for me. We've got this bamboo chicken
and this looks like the ginger with some pork. Sweet pork. And I have to get this cute minced
meat with egg. It looks like salted egg. So cute. I just had to get. All right, let's dig in.
I like the sweet crispy pork. It's good. That's probably one of the most wholesome and local meal
we had this trip. That's a very nice family-run restaurant and now it's time for a little bit of
After a bit of shopping, we headed back to the hotel for a quick break
before dinner. For this trip, we are staying at the Victory Bangkok Hotel. We're here for
four nights and the room has everything we need. A really comfortable bed, a mini bar,
a safe and a decent-sized bathroom. Plus, it's only a two to three minute walk to the closest
BTS station. And of course, a 7-Eleven. We're now at this really beautiful place for dinner.
It's called Pa Arun. It's because we can see the Wat Arun behind and a spectacular sunset.
It's a really nice place. Beautiful sunset. It's just about to set.
Really love the environment here. It's very chill. You're gonna see lots of traffic going up and down
the Chao Phraya River. It's just pretty nice. You know, you get a nice breeze. We actually did a
reservation here about three days in advance. So we got a really nice spot right next to the pier.
Pretty heavy. I'm just trying not to spill anything.
All our food is here. We've ordered the green curry with chicken tom kha gai, which is the white
tom yum. And we've also ordered the pomelo salad. The green curry comes with noodles but
they've ran out of it so they gave us the rice. Nice, creamy and rich. That's good.
I love the coconut milk. Lots of chilies.
Oh, that was spicy. Perfectly seasoned. Very nice and rich and light at the same time.
Oh, definitely very coconutty. Not so much of the galangal but it's pretty decent. I'm excited
for the pomelo salad though. Seems to be like one of their best salads here. You see a bunch of
shrimps on it. Pomelo underneath and of course chilies. That's really good. Very refreshing.
It's more towards the sweet side but not too sweet. Just nice. Very refreshing. Slightly spicy.
I just love the prawns. It goes really well with the salad. I can see why it's the best salad.
Oh yeah, it comes in a cup too. My little mini canopy.
Oh, that's good. Nice and sweet. I think overall for a place like this, the food is actually pretty
good. Good food, great, awesome view. Definitely recommend it. I haven't really eaten much yet. I'm
just so busy taking all the photos. This place is really picturesque and just right after it sunsets,
Wat Arun is glowing up and it's beautiful. And just when I thought the view is stunning,
it gets more incredible towards night. After all of our food that we had in Bangkok, we are
going to end it with our 10th spot which is dessert. And this place is called After You Cafe.
They serve one of the cutest kakigori or shaved ice. And I got myself the Thai tea shaved ice.
There's some almond beads. I think some whipping cream if I'm not mistaken. The shaved ice underneath
and also a little bit of like Thai tea in here. I'm not gonna pour on it. I think it might destroy
the entire aesthetic of it. Let's just dig in and try it out. Cheers. Really like Thai tea,
very rich. The cream is pretty sinful. Very fine Japanese style shaved ice. So good.
This is one of the best shaved ice I've had. Add a little bit of Thai milk tea on it.
Oh yeah, that's even better somehow. The cream can be a little bit overwhelming but if you add
the Thai tea, it becomes like a really milky Thai tea. So apparently as we dig in, there is some
fillings inside. There's grass jelly and some bread. It's almost like eating bread with ice cream.
We haven't had Thai iced tea at all on our entire trip. So I feel like this is a very appropriate
way to have Thai tea but in a different form. Although we managed to hit all 10 food spots
on this trip, there's still one more we just had to include. Our 72 hours of food adventure in
Bangkok is almost coming to an end. Before we head to the airport, we're here at Tong Smith and
they're popular for their Wagyu Boat Noodle. We're at the Ari Brunch. There's not a lot of people and
this place, the setting is beautiful. So we've ordered two bowls of sliced Australian Wagyu round,
beef ball, braised shank and tendon. Yeah, it's a mouthful. Visually it looks stunning. Look at the
slices. It's beautiful and the beef is still a little pinkish. I love this kind of doneness.
There's this beef ball. Broth looks good. It has a side of beansprouts and basil. When with
the two spice level, you can choose non-spicy, spicy, second spicy or third spicy. I'm gonna try
the broth. The broth looks good. It's rich and spicy. I'm glad I didn't go with the level three.
There's the noodles at the bottom. Look at the noodles. Oh yeah,
it's still smoking hot. And for the noodle choice, we went with the original boat noodles.
The noodle is good. Nice and still a little bit chewy. Love it. I'm excited for the beef.
I'm losing my voice because of the chilli. The beef is so tender. It's so good. Goes so well
with the boat noodle. Oh man, it's incredible. I've also ordered the same thing. They have other
choices like pork, regular beef, but I'm pretty sure their signature is the Wagyu beef,
so we have to go for that. Wow, there's like an explosion of flavours. It's a really rich broth.
Sweet, sour, spicy and salty. Very rich broth. I'm glad we went with the level two spice, but
it always comes with this side. If you don't have enough spice, you can always add on more chilli,
sugar. If it's not salty enough, you can always have the fish sauce.
All right, let's just get a big scoop. Oh, that's a really tender beef slice. We had boat noodles
quite often in the past few years in Bangkok and this is definitely standing out. Mainly because
not just the Wagyu beef, but overall even the broth is so flavourful and I can totally recommend
it too. Hey, they even have some pork cracklings. I think it's not over yet. We might get some
desserts. My mouth is burning from the spice, so we've ordered dessert. We've got the coconut ice
cream and you get to choose three toppings. We chose the sticky rice, the red ruby and peanut.
I'm gonna get some of everything. Oh yeah, that's good. Nice and creamy and with the crunches from
the sides. So good. Oh, that really soothes the spice. So good. What a way to end our 72 hours
of eating in Bangkok during Songkran. Our time in Bangkok has come to an end and honestly,
the days just flew by. We are already planning our next trip back because there's always something
new to discover here. Until next time, thank you so much for watching and we'll see you in the next
one. Bye guys! What happens during Songkran is most of the shops will be closed. It's a little
bit tricky trying to find spots to eat. Another tip is to check the restaurant's official Facebook
page because normally in Bangkok, Facebook pages are more recently updated compared to Google Maps.
